Hey koso,

Do you live in KiM? Because there is still a lot of Serb flags flying high in the Holy Land (I bet this really burns you)? Over 50% albans live in poverty there and they will work for 10euros all day long.
(Ratko, 12 July 2011 19:48)

Ratko most serbs work for a lot less not many in Serbia make 300Euros a month. How much most teachers in Serbia make just go look.

So no shame of working for 10Euros a day this is a reality in most Balkans.

Do you think these 50% of Albanians will be better of if Kosovo was part of Serbia?

1. Yes and that solution is called self-determination.South Sudan called a referendum and decided to be independent. Now be honest to yourself:What the outcome of a referendum in Kosovo would be if we follow their case?
(Mark, 12 July 2011 21:25)

Yes, self-determination. The Albanians can have all the self determination they want just over the border in a country called Albania, true?

Meanwhile, you have Northern Kosovo. How about a referendum on self determination up there? Fair, isn't it?
(Nenad from Melbourne, 13 July 2011 06:06)

Nenad,

Using your method of reasoning, one could say that the Serbs living in Northern Kosova can have all the self-determination they want in Serbia. Or, for that matter, the Albanians in Presheva valley have the right to hold a referendum. And, what about the Bosniaks in the Sandjak? Fair, isn't it!

This dialogue so far has offered no real and practical benefits for Serbs. Why negotiate with those (Albanians) who can't keep their word? They can't even have freedom of movement and normalcy for minorities even in peace time.

To those who compare Kosovo to South Sudan, you are fools. Kosovo and South Sudan are completely different cases. Northern Sudan agreed years ago that they would recognize an independent South Sudan, Serbia never agreed to recognizing Kosovo that is independent. Also South Sudan has undergone 20 years of civil war in which 2 million people died this was not the case with kosovo.

Kosovo is destined to become the Taiwan of the Balkans.
(American Eagle, 12 July 2011 10:55)

Wow, you are very optimistic... That would bring Kosovo from position 103 to position 20 in GDP per capita according to the IMF. That's better than UK !

Interesting

The two sides should look at Sudan and South Sudan as an example. After decades of war with two million people killed and four million displaced, an agreement was reached between the North and the South that allowed for a peaceful solution that is acceptable to all countries in the international community.
(American Eagle, 12 July 2011 10:55)
So you say that decades of NATO bombing Serbia and killing 4 million Serbs is a much better way to gain independence?? I think the Kosovo way is a bit more humane.

American Eagle

Mark,

There was a referendum based on a consensual agreement, not a unilateral decision. There has to be an agreement between the two parties for there to be an acceptable outcome.

68 countries have recognized or are in the process of recognizing South Sudan's independence because of this agreement. South Sudan will also enter the UN before Kosovo, if Kosovo is ever allowed in. There recognitions are happening in under one week after declaring independence. 75 countries in three years shows the results of unilateral action.....Taiwan status.

What the outcome of a referendum in Kosovo would be if we follow their case?
(Mark, 12 July 2011 21:25)

First, let's proceed with Jerusalem, North Kosovo, Srpska. Than let's continue with South Ossetia, Abkhazia.

Not enough? There was a referendum across the Soviet Union regarding it's future. Do you know what was the outcome? To stay together by overwhelming majority. Do you know what would be today the outcome of such referendum? Same thing.

Some referendums unpleasant for United States are disregarded, only the neutral ones and favoring the geo-political interest of USA are taken seriously. Hence, their moral weight is zero.

We are back to real politics, not morale. And the real politics is that the country which has more MiG + Merkava + Megaton is the one which determines what referendum is more democratic. Like the stronger dog does multiply.

And if you want to help Mexico take back part of the US, we can ignore your pleas for help when the Serbs try to take back Kosovo.

(KOSO, 12 July 2011 16:51)

I did not see much Gypsies in Romania, just some (as usual and as everywhere), so they did not ad a tiny bit to my frustration over a lot of things in that country. We did cross there from Ukraina and within hours had nostalgia not only after Kosovo but after the most poorest part of Ukraina, too.

Sufficient to say - we did meet the Father of All Potholes and the Mother of All Potholes and the only funny part was, there were tiny frogs jumping out of these potholes, so I had to navigate around while trying not to hit the potholes and frogs. No idea, how many frogs did I kill, hope not that many.

That was the funny part, the rest was rather sad. Nothing really big bad did happen, just gazillion of small negative impressions. If Romania is in E.U. than not sure what country should be NOT in E.U. Certainly, Ukraine, Serbia or Albania should be presiding in E.U. than.

(American Eagle, 12 July 2011 10:55)

Without Taiwanese economy the situation is much worse. But here is something weird. Recently I returned from a trip to Romania - that country is not only fully recognized but is even in E.U. Still, they are as far from Taiwan as Albania or even worse. To tell the truth, after 3 days I had a strong nostalgia towards Kosovo while being in Romania - and that means something.

How they did manage to get into that loser E.U. gang is probably world's eight wonder. At times I felt, Kosovo or the rest of Serbia is indeed Taiwan compared with Romania... or maybe even Japan.
