First of all I would like to wish both Nadal and Djokovic the best of luck in their match on Sunday. However,if Novak D. loses to Nadal on Sunday, as I think he will, then Djokovic will be, at best, tied with Nadal for #1. But a loss for Djokovic to Nadal will, most likely, put Nadal back to number one again, as it should. It would be quite embarrassing, for Novak (and Serb politicos) to be moved back to #2 even before he is officially named #1. Since first place was only recently gained by Novak in defeating Tsongas and a loss now by Djokovic to "King Nadal" will certainly endanger the top spot for Novak. In addition I have noticed, over the years, that Novak is intimidated by Nadal and will probably choke when faced with the great Nadal. In any event, on Sunday we will see a very good match.
(The Count of Kosova, 1 July 2011 22:25)

Even if he loses, he's still going to be number one. That's how the tennis ranking system works; once points for the past two weeks or so are added, two weeks' worth of points from a while back (not sure how far back) are taken away, so even if Nadal earns more points than Đoković at Wimbledon 2011, it doesn't matter, since the number of points subtracted from Nadal's total is higher than that lost by Đoković, and as such, he can finish higher than Nadal.

Weird, but it works. Otherwise, Federer would still be number one, since numerically, he's won so many matches and so many grand slams.

"The funniest thing about Djokovic is he isn't even a "real serb" as per nationalist beliefs. They say that people who left the motherland aren't real Serbs"

deki

Is that the best excuse you could come up with? As soon as Serbs acheive something great there is an albanian lurking in the shadows trying to discredit the accomplishment. Nole knows what he is and so does the rest of the world. What you think is irrelevant. Go back to goatherding in Pristina and let the world enjoy this great Serb.

Who exactly says that? I haven't heard that one before. I don't live in Serbia but I am a Serb and so are all the others who left. What do you call the Serbs in Bosnia then or the ones who live in Croatia, Macedonia etc.?

You would love this not a Serbs rubbish to be true but sadly for you it's not.

Just can't stomach the fact that a Serb has done so well.

I can see you know nothing about sports, son. Novak has crushed Nadal multiple times this year. Furthermore, it is a wee bit ironic that an Albanian is mocking anyone regarding sports - given the fact that you as a nation have won nothing, ever.

If Dokovic faces Nadal in the final and loses, how can the WTF promote him over Nadal? This ds government is rather pathetic with its early congratulations.

Because tennisranking does not work like that, it's total victory's that count, not winning from nadal, Djokovic has won more matches than Nadal this year.

Johnny Boy...great(stupid)question. For no reason, he hasn't earned it by any means. Actually, he sucks and the world wonders, much like you do as to who this no name Serb has made it to the world number 1 in tennis. I mean come on, even if he is the best in the world, he's a Serb, and for that matter doesn't deserve to be the best at anything. Isn't that the basis of your question, mr. albo troll, or croat crybaby?

Haha..stick that where the sun don't shine. WAY TO GO Djokovic!

JohnBoy you don't understand the tennis rating system.

He will be number 1 seed in the coming weeks, regardless of results because of his performance this season, but also because of improvment of his performance from last season.

Its not simple but its the way ratings are decided in tennis these days.

But frankly who cares its great to have Djokovic as number 1. He has fought so hard to get to this point and he really deserves it. Anybody who follows tennis knows this is true.

Bravo Nole!! It truly is a great achievement for Djokovic and his fans. What I do find objection to is every Serbian politician and high member of the Orthodox Church clinging to Nole. His accomplishments truly are amazing, however, politicians and religious leaders should focus on their own roles. Nole's victory is not yours! He is a great representative for Serbia though and I wish much more success to come.
