Despite all the hate that is coming from the turco-albanians against the Greeks the fact remains that if there is a country that helped Albania to emerge from the darkness of the Hoxha regime that is Greece.
For the last 20 years the Albanians have been sending billions of euros from their illegal earnings to Albania to support their families.Do you know many Albanians filling their tax forms at the end of the tax year?Do you know any Albanian that has paid a single euro in tax in Greece? They do know how to benefit from free public services though.

As i've said to you before,if you really feel hard done by the Greeks there is always Albania.Nobody is stopping you.The fact remains that even in a bankrupt Greece living will be a thousand times better than in Albania.

Greece helped Albania emerge from communism? It sure did Leo. By slave working and exploitation of thousands of albanian immigrants who did all the dirty hard work and were bankrolling your failed social security and banking system with their taxes and savings that they will never get any benefit from, since you simply do not allow it? By confiscating their savings and properties and deporting them back! By upholding the state of war with Albania, so albanians can't claim any property owned in Greece. Oh yeah albs did milk the system, when they were working 3 jobs and getting paid for one (under full descrimination as noted every year by human rights reports), by statistically being responsible for 1/8 of Greece's GDP when they only constitute 1/13 of the population. Did any Albanian retire at 50 yet and got a hefty pension, or hefty vacation time, not really, the welfare state was enjoyed primarily by greeks who worked the privileged jobs of "long" 6-7 hours a day, at triple payrates, while Greece was receiving billions in aid from EU to handle the "hardship" brought by immigrants? You are fooling no one Leo. 60 yrs ago it was Albania who sheltered and fed some 200K greeks when you were killing each other.

I truly hope most of the immigrants return and never turn their head back, in fact some 100,000 have returned, and hopefully more will soon. Maybe you can feed and do the hard work yourselves for a change. But right you are too busy protesting to uphold the parasitic way of life, you love and enjoy so much. Or maybe you can go back and hide behind drachma, which will make you "work" harder and more "productive" .... another bright Greek protectionist idea. In any case many of your neigbors which you have bullied and hated for so long will not give a damn.

I wouldn't worry about the Albanians in Greece, for the last 20 yrs Albs have worked 2-3 jobs, underpaid and under your full spitefulness and intimidation..... and now you need us more than ever. An untaped resource of revenues from a young and vital workforce to pay for the aging greeks and a bankrupt nation, who has showed nothing but hate for them so far. Who is going to do the hard work, greek youth? No they like to protest....That's why you are allowing Albanian immigrants now to buy property that before they were prohibited to buy, you need their money.

If you are waiting for the Greeks to boost your tourist numbers you'll be waiting for a long time.If you look at the numbers of Greeks travelling to foreign countries this year they are markedly down on last year's numbers. This is the result of the financial crisis.

Bearing in mind that there is nearly 4 million deficit on Croatia's tourist numbers for 2010 and on the fact that Greece's tourism is mainly concentrated on the islands(free of any troubles) i cannot see how croatia will make up the ground. Leonidas what you say dose not bearout we had a 3% and overnight stays 6% increase in 2010 and the start of this year is breaking all previous by large margins in numbers of tourist. The Greeks are coming more then ever to Croatia because it is not a long drive so are Serbs ,Russians etc http://www.visit-croatia.co.uk/blog/index.php/category/tourism-stats .

The Greeks have realised the days of running a full welfare system on a widely-evaded tax system are finished.Restrictive employment and trade practices are over and paying taxes and reducing a bloated public sector wil have to be a thing of the past.

Ideally,Greece should leave the euro and revert to its own currency. The drachma was a pretty successful currency, it was weak but that served its purpose of boosting tourist receipts, making Greek products competitive and keeping out expensive BMWs,Audis and luxury boats off the country.

The problem is that Greece won't be allowed to leave and introduce its own currency because such a move will be against EU's great designs.Once a country is in there is no way out.
(Leonidas, 28 June 2011 18:10)

Apparently Greeks have not gotten the MEMO, that's why they keep protesting to uphold a failed and inefficient welfare system. Only in Greece the youth protest in favor of Government run enterprises, as people simply have no grasp of the grave reality. The massive strikes now going on for years in Greece are a reflection of a goverment spoiled, inefficient and unproductive workforce that wants to live in prosperity without any sacrifices or hard work.

The solution is not to hide and run behind drachma, which artificially makes Greek companies competitive, keeps the cost low, and the economy running. That will be just another Ponzi scheme, and grave self-deception. The solution is for Greece to invest the money not in parasitic welfare enterprises, but training and educating its workforce to compete and increase productivity, which in the end means to work harder. Greece could have done this long time ago, it had the money and the means to do it.
The fact that the largest revenue source for Greece are still 2 non-production industries, tourism and ocean transport gives you a clear idea of a banana republic economy, which was essentially sustained by $billions of debt.

Greece's tourist industry lost much of its competitiveness as a result of the introduction of the euro.Back in 2001 one could've bought a cup of expresso coffee for 100 drachma which was approximately 35 cents. With the introduction of euro the price of the same cup of coffee became 3 euros. The same increase occured to the cost of living as well. Therefore,a
lot of tourists which used to spend their holidays in Greece moved to low cost countries like Turkey,Egypt etc.The same fate will await croatia when it enters the EU and adopts the euro.

The Greek trade unions offer no alternative to the government- proposed austerity measures to pull the country out from the looming bankruptcy. The chaos they offer is a self-inflicting shot into their leg. Everybody knows that one of the major resources of Greek economy is tourism which yields more billions of euros. The forthcoming tourist season in not promising if the workers walk out and block highway ,access to airports and border crossings. Greece is known to be the tourist destination for lots of tourists from Europe and worldwide. As for Serbian citizens,we had to use visas for Greece at the time when we travelled to Germany,Austria and other European countries without visas (1980). What is the effect of strikes at present. Tourists are not able to buy daily needs,to see a doctor if necessary, and finally they are in dire need for the gas to tank the car if they come by car. Greeks are cutting the boughs of the tree on which they are sitting. Lots of people should cancel their trip to Greece and make alternative arrangements .

T and Denis. Regarding the way economy works and corruption between government officials, it is the same situation in all Balkan countries. Hopefully, they will learn something from Greece, but I doubt it, long term policies rarely win against short term gains. Albania, Serbia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Romania, Bulgaria, Bosnia, everywhere the same stories. The only difference is that Greece is in the euro zone, so it has to be saved and it has to save itself at the cost of sacrifices. This means that the entrance in the euro zone will get much harder for the Balkan countries that are not in yet. Maybe even impossible.

This is mind buggling. Is like Greeks live in Mars and they don't even have the slightest notion of reality and what's going on. They just don't want to give up their parazitic way of life who was provided for by others and now protest about it. God knows who is going to pay for them? Are these people for real? People of Europe Rise Up?? People of Europe are too busy working, and competing to rise up. Now even their largest source of revenue, tourism, is going to be paralized and they will suffer even worse.... until yesterday Greek Gov solution was to just through more money into it, but now there is no more money. How can a people be so iresponsible?

Ever since the first Greek democratic election since 1974, which was won by the New Democrats, Greece has been subject to institutionalised corruption, pillaging of state funds and catastrophic mismanagement of the economy.
Now that the state has finally realised that the party is finally over and are forced to tighten the belt and repay (some)of the money they owe the people complain.
Did the people of Greece not realise sooner that their governments, (each single one of them), were incompetent and corrupt. Should this complaining not have started sooner and should the people not have insisted that their governments needed to be held responsible?
Yes, all Greeks, without exception, knew their governments were so to speak "on the take". All Greeks were fully aware that their leaders never did act within the best interest of the country and economy.
So why did the Greek populous turn a "blind eye" for so long? Simple. The answer is that most Greeks said; "what's good for them is good for us". Instead of trying to beat them, they joined them.
All these years the people were profiting from the government's inefficiencies by voting the most corrupt of either of the two parties (PASOK/ NEO DEMOCRATIA) to power.
The system worked like this; If I vote PASOK and they come to power I will have friends in government, who will turn a blind eye to not paying taxes, give me a state job where I will never have to turn up to and enjoy bonuses which are the most ridiculous ever invented. Did you know, for instance, that DEH, the state electricity company, were paying their personel 650 Euro per month not to drive but to start their cars??!!! They paid the same people over 400 Euro per month for having clean hands??!!! and so on and on and on.
Now the same people are complaining that life is not fair and striking to bring the economy to a halt, like a bunch of spoiled kids whose lolly pop gets taken of them.
I say let them pay and let them suffer. I feel sorry for those that really did pay their taxes and did not choose to be corrupted. But those are few.

Save your tears fot the hard working Albanians-not the Greeks. As with every financial crisis the undocumented immigrants are the ones who bear the brunt of the crisis. The Greeks have survived the Turks,Germans,Italians, civil war and they will survive again.

This year Croatia will easily surpass Greece in the number of tourist visiting. Last year their was a 76% jump of Greek tourist visiting Croatia. The Greeks should get down to work and get them selfs out of their own created mess. So come to Croatia it is very Beautiful and peaceful enjoy [link] [link] [link] [link]

I am not interested in Croatian chicks and I can't afford a Croatian car. All I want is to drive from Újvidék to Zágráb without crossing borders.

I will, the only thing what prevents me is that I need a to cross borders if I drive my precious salvage title 1986 Trabant from Szeged to Rieka via Szabadka, Újvidék, Valkóvár, Eszék, Zágráb. There is something wrong with the map, too many borders. Maybe next year when I finally can afford my dream car, a Zastava.

The Greeks are coming more then ever to Croatia because it is not a long drive so are Serbs ,Russians etc http://www.visit-croatia.co.uk/blog/index.php/category/tourism-stats .
