I didn't have "special rights" in mind, just the rights of a large voting block to have its interests taken into account. If Albanians with Serbian passports were to vote in Serbian elections, they'd be able to influence policy in their favor - Albanian as a second official language (which the Serbs have with - what? 5%? of the vote in Kosovo, division of top state positions with Serbs. That's all. Or maybe a referendum on Kosovo's status that they would have a chance of winning, eventually.

Unfortunately their children regardless of ethnic background dream to live in the West. The same trend is in Hungary. I won't be able to keep my kids here.... with the citizenships they have and given the lack of opportunities here they would be crazy. Once you are old and have a house and can telecommute - it's fine.

Here we go again. Would be YU intact as it used to be and would be the R&D not systematically dismantled and killed - I would send my kids there. Now it's a carcass of a country, regardless what area of YU you look into.

As for DSS: realistically you can't make a carcass walk. And with black humor about Kosovo - few single organs won't make a human being. Take the coast line from Croatia - and it has about the same perspective as Moldova.

Macedonia's economical life is alive like the statue of Aleksandar Makedonski they just elected. Boy, I was there and missed that. What a loss!

Hilarious!

The Albanians in Kosova are already independent, Serbia must now hold a referendum in order to indicate that they agree and then be able to say that they set the Albanians free. An "Emancipation Proclamation" if you will. Oh thank you Sahib.

The European Union Countries May have changed their minds, and they do not want Kosovo to become Independent, and they May not want the Kosovo Albanians to realize this just yet.

If those Countries that initially recognized Kosovo’s Unilateral Declaration of Independence, really wanted Kosovo to become Independent, then they would make sure the SAA Agreement was implemented.

We all know that there will have to be a Referendum in Serbia for Kosovo to become Independent.

This Referendum can only possibly pass if the European Union after the SAA Agreement had been implemented for a while, because Serbia’s condition for the Referendum is that the SAA Agreement must be implemented before there can be a Referendum.

This is why European Union Countries really want Kosovo to become Independent, then they would not waste time, but they would implement the SAA Agreement with Serbia as fast as possible.

They know that the SAA Agreement must be Fully Implemented before any Referendum in Serbia can take put on the Status of Kosovo.

There are those who think that the Serbian Voters will Vote NO on the first Referendum, but they need to realize that the Irish Voters did the same with the Lisbon Treaty, where it needed more than one Referendum for it to be approved.

Ireland is a European Country, and Serbia is encouraged to pursue European Values, and if it took the European Values Irish two attempts to approve of the Lisbon Treaty, then it could possibly be that it might take the Serbian Voters more than one Referendum approve of Kosovo’s Independence.

If the SAA Agreement is not implemented first, then Serbia cannot hold a Referendum on Kosovo’s Independence, and some European Union Countries May want the Kosovo Albanians to subtlety and subliminally understand that they have changed their minds and withdrawn their support for Kosovo Albanian Unilateral Declaration of Impendence.

This is why the Kosovo Albanians need to lobby those European Union Countries who are delaying the implementation of the SAA Agreement to implement the SAA Agreement with Serbia.

It should be obvious to everyone that the European Union does not want Kosovo Albanians to join the European Union, because Serbia would allow Kosovo to join the European Union in a Cyprus Type Situation.

We see that neither Serbia nor some European Union Countries, wants Kosovo to become Independent, but those European Union Countries might be reluctant to tell the Kosovo Albanians this.

There are some European Union Countries who want Kosovo to Fully Reintegrate with Serbia, because they want Serbia to join the European Union with its Southern Province of Kosovo.

Serbia should just totally ignore any small talk from the European Union on any claim they make that Serbia cannot join the European Union on terms that they let others join the European Union.

Serbia should pursue Policies which are the Right Policies, and if some European Union Countries cannot or will not come to up proper standards, then Serbia should not join the European Union until they do.

SCP UK its not my suggestion that G17 had anything much to do with the success of the economy. The suggestion coming from DSS and its cheerleaders is that they (their government) are responsible for economic success.

I am pointing out that G17 had control of the finance / economic portfolios with the exception of one ministry - a period when Bubalo from DSS was running the economic relations with abroad.

The same minister Bubalo who was Minister of Privatisation when a number of companies were dubiously privatised. You mention US Steel and Sartid. I agree that this privatisation alongside numerous other ones were carried out under questionable circumstances.

However, the undertone of such arguments is usually as follows - its bad that foreign companies come and take over our companies under dodgy circumstances. But hey even if there are many more cases of domestic monopolists doing the same thing, lets not mention those companies!

The bottom line is that business couldn't care less what nationality one is.

bganon, Dinkic's ambitions with the economy are completely misguided and ridiculous dont try and suggest economic success has anything to do with him. He will be happy once he can sell off all of Serbia's industry and whore himself to the EU.

For that matter I would love to know what was going through Djelic's thick skull when he was finance minister in 2003 and the Smederevo steel works were sold to US Steel.

The kind of speech one can expect to be given to the party faithful.

Long on criticism and scare stories and short on solutions, as he ever was. As if anybody in Serbia seriously believes that Vojvodina is in danger. Without fear politicians wouldn't be able to get anybody to vote for them.

There is one point I'd like to make, as one of the few more 'normal' things that DSS tends to do - to take credit for the better economic situation when they were in power. This position we have heard increasingly of late.

Its a joke! Why? First of all the obvious - any party in power the world over a few years ago that is in opposition now can say the same thing he is saying. The fact is that then we didn't have a world recession. Its got very little to do with Kostunica. Secondly, and this is my main point. Anybody remember just WHO was making economic policy in the government of Vojislav Kostunica - hint its that discredited guy in charge of a new opportunistic gathering called URS.

Yes, the economic success in Serbia a few years back was due to Mladjan Dinkic and G17!

Sadly, I'd say we had more success some years ago, not because of Kostunica, Dinkic or any other Serbian politician, but in spite of them.

Somebody ask him how he intends to stop the population decline.

To halt the aging of the population and its overall decline, every couple should start having 4-5 kids, emigration should stop, immigration should rise sharply (but from where??) ...

You can see why he so badly wants to keep Kosovo. But his current prescriptions would preserve the borders of Serbia while its population is slowly replaced by Albanians.

Vojislav Koštunica has said that “Kosovo belongs to us because it is ours”.

"belongs to us" is the same as "it is ours", so Kostunica is saying Kosovo belongs to us because it belongs to us. Now, that's a tautology. Tautologies are usually not informative, they bring new to the reader. For example, I am me, or that dog is a dog are tautologies. But they are unbreakable, impenetrable, very difficult to disprove. Meaning that one should not even try to argue with arguments with Kostunica, one should just ignore him, exactly like the Serbian voters did in the last elections.
