Just like in China, where the local authorities successfully installed a free economy without real democracy and freedom for people, Erdogan managed to let the economy grow and, at the same time, to transform the Turkey into an repressive, islamistic country. Funny somehow: In neighboring Arabic countries, the population stands up against repressive autocrats and for more democracy, in Turkey, they elect one for the third time.

After eight years in power, the AKP hopes for two-thirds of the seats in parliament to amend the current, military-backed constitution.

It makes no difference whether mullah Erdogan changes the consttution or not.One could still find it impossible to find in Turkey a western book exposing crimes and pseudo-historical buffooneries of Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha nicknamed Attarkuk.Instead what awaits a visitorto a Turkish library are the tedious lies and denials of the genocidess committed by the state of Turkey against Armenians,Assyrians,Pontic Greeks and article
301 of the Turkish penal code for the inquisitive sceptic.

Erdogan today has no right to even pretend that the country he leads has anything to do with secularism. There are more then 90000 mosques in the country, one for every 700 citizens-compared to one hospital for every 65000 citizens-the highest number per capita in the world with 100000 imams, more imams than doctors.Thousands of madrasa schools have sprung up since Erdogan came into power eight years ago and with the budget of the directorate of religious affairs incresing fivefold to nearly $2.5 billion per year.It suffeces to say that Friday prayer attendance in Turkey's mosques exceeds that of Iran and religious classes are compulsory in public schools. This is the parody of turkish secularism.

Then again Turks have never enjoyed a single day of freedom throughout their history, while their depotism assumed the most perverted metamorphoses ie "parliamentary monarchy","republic".Mustapha Kemal even invented an opposition to make his dictatorship look quite democratic and western.Subsequently he changed his mind and had the leader of the "opposition" hanged.

The adoption of western mimicries by the Turks had one purpose only and that is to promote his old jihadist and supremacist objectives and that makes them more dangerous than before. After years of increasingly authoritarian and dominant AKP rule at home, many Turks now view the world through the Islamist perspective of a civilizational clash.
The turks might look western but think and they are oriental. As the turkish proverb goes"Only a Turk can be a friend to a Turk".

To sum up,Turkey has no right -unless by oxymoron-to be called modern on westernised.Swapping the fez for the cylinder hat hasn't changed the head of the wearer in the least.
