"They want to remove the liberalisation of visa regime for Serbia and Macedonia. It has nothing to do with Albania. Albanian citizents are not applying for asylum in the western countries."
(Vini, 9 June 2011 19:06)

Right, it's not about Albanian citizens, but it has to do with Serbian citizens with Albanian ethnicity (from Kosovo and other southern Serbian areas), together with Roma, which are the majority who try to apply for asylum - which is rediculous, because on Serbia no one is persecuted. Same goes for Macedonia, with the Macedonian citizens of Albanian ethnicity: "The report states that although there are numerous abuses concerning the visa liberalization, most travelers come with good intentions. Only a small number of them, and 80 percent of that number are Roma and ethnic Albanians, use the liberalization to seek asylum without a good cause."

It would be even more ridiculous if Albanians from Albania would claim to be persecuted for their ethnicity and apply for asylum. No, they are aware of this fact, and just stay illegally in western European countries, with the help of friends and family living there, without applying for asylum.

I don't really understand why fake asylum seekers are such a problem and why it has to be Serbia's problem,

Just make it easier to say no.

The "West" is caught in own trap, that is the problem. For start: there is a due process regarding asylum - and that leaves enough to obtain a temporary legal stay for short time (we are talking weeks) and apply for welfare. It could be a few thousand Euro if the family is large enough and they can disappear any time.

On the other side of the process there are some well-organized people, both Serbs and Albanians in Vranje and Presevo area. They will smoothen the paperwork so ultimately who want, can get the desired passport.

Here both the "West" and Serbia fall into Kosovo trap and neither can do much, except informing the involved that they will pay more than gain, so it will be a lousy solution.

Of course, there are thousands from Western Balkans who are illegally in the West but do not apply for asylum because they have the friend-relative network... or sub-merge straight into underworld. Unlike Roma from Kosovo they are much better organized and rarely caught.

Good idea to check it out. Preferebly Albania should be taken off the visa exeption list.
(Srboslav, 9 June 2011 12:53)

While visiting a certain South East European country recently I was wondering, should be it taken off from any list, except the bunker-builder and donkey-breeder guilds.

My passenger was really upset how donkeys were mishandled.
