You said it yourself in your sentence before about the EU subsidiaries: 40% of EU budget goes straight to farmers and agro industry.

Serbia is doing the same already presumably to keep them competitive so what benefit will joining the EU give them?

Question is, why is the government thinking of reducing it? Instructions from Brussels?

Good I hope this is the start of something big and that Tadic's corrupt government will be tarnished. Not to mention that his government is guilty of treason but they cannot run their economy properly, the EU will only make the economy worse if God forbid Serbia joins, but we all know that wont be anytime soon. To all those Serbs who have been brainwashed by Tadic's EU dream I urge them to think again and to realise that the EU will destroy Serbian, not just in terms of our national pride and sovereignty, but also economically and politically.

I have heard that several persons are trying to buy up good land in Vojvodina; they know that EU membership for Serbia is coming and they want to be able to sell it to the highest bidder to make a nice fat profit. This aside, as Serbia moves towards a free market economy, the land subsidies must decrease and ultimately disappear, as each farmer must stand on his own, incur his own risks and sell his crops on the open market to make his own profit. If a farmer cannot make a go of his business, i.e. agriculture on his farm, then he needs to sell it and find another way to make a living for himself and his family. It is all about personal financial accountability and making your living for yourself -- no more handouts from the state.

"This is just the beginning and I expect protests to intensify as Serbia moves closer to the EU, where people experience more pressure, debt and servility."

Isn't it a bit contradictory? Be sure, the farmers would be the ones who cheer most and loudest when Serbia will join the EU. You said it yourself in your sentence before about the EU subsidiaries: 40% of EU budget goes straight to farmers and agro industry.

I'm glad to see these people protest effectively. Soon the government will cave in and their "European values" dream will be coming to an end. The EU heavily subsidises their farmers and putting our local farmers at a disadvantage is part of this "European value" system where we increasing import goods from the EU.

This is just the beginning and I expect protests to intensify as Serbia moves closer to the EU, where people experience more pressure, debt and servility.

So, Government offers subsidized loans to farmers to produce more livestock, then cuts subsidies for arable land, all at the time every-bodies favorite tycoon has sold off his retail interests and is looking to buy land, cheaply, of course. Any connection, what do you think, folks?
