“The essence of my message is that the EU block is increasingly making it clear that Serbia needs to have good relations with its neighbors. Tadiq refusing to participate because of Kosovo's official(s) being there is childish. Refusing to participate because of Kosovo's president is actually an acknowledgement and validation to Kosovo's legitimacy in the world political arena.

Furthermore, the EU block is increasing becoming politically unwilling to allow Serbia into the union because the Serbo-Kosovo drama is indicative: Serbia is wanting to join the 27 EU strong, not the other way around. Today belgrade will refuse to recognize a potential candidate, tomorrow it will be Brussels laws for homosexuality, transgender, environment, corporations, etc. Serbia's poor attitude is reflecting negatively towards all its neighbors prospects (Balkans) of future membership.

@Padania
I'm following that closely...it's also going to be interesting to see the split of Sudan.....especially all the resources; this might be a cue for Quebec.

Thanks,
(KOSO, 31 May 2011 22:33)”

The EU only stipulated good neighborly relations – which does not amount to recognition of Kosovo’s UDI. Tadic’s refusal to attend was simply to reiterate that Serbia does not recognize Kosovo as a state. So far I have not read a single article about any EU country that called his refusal to attend as being contrary to the good neighbors condition.

I actually agree with you that the EU is probably not sincere about wanting to expand further whether for Serbia or the rest of the Balkans. And I actually never thought it was in Serbia’s best interests to join the EU and become a lackey to the major EU members in all but name.

in last week's elections the Lega Nord (which is supposed to promote the seccesionism of the North) lost votes in general and it lost several of its strongholds in Northern Italy. Seems that Lega Nord, together with Berlusconi is closing its cyclus. Doesn't seem exactly that "Padania's" restlessness for independence continues to grow. Anyone who is acquainted with Italian politics would explain you that "Padania" is a nonsense notion that ranges from the sheer populism to the typical "pagliacciata".
(Observer, 31 May 2011 19:59) "

As I just replied to that Gustave, I never claimed to be an expert in Italian politics. As an outside observer however, the fact that the northern league is able to remain in political office means they must have supporters byeond just a handful. Especially when the articles that I read seemed to support the view that many in the north wants to be free of Rome.

And there could well be reasons why the northern league lost the latest elections other than northern voters suddenly falling heads over heels in love with the south again -- for example, economic reasons, voter backlash over their alliance with Berlusconi (he's the one embroiled in the scandals with young women right?). Again, I'm merely giving an opinion formed by articles that I read -- if you are an Italian or expert about Italy, it would be good if you could establish your counter arguments with online proof which should be readily available at your end, assuming what you claimed is true.

Once again, you read wrong. Lega Nord's "leadership" is a crazy xenophobic bunch but that despite their wishes they could never secede. Its simply impossible, as they don't receive votes for that. FYI Umberto Bossi and a handful of other primitives already declared independence back in 1996. The 33 million of people on whose behalf he allegedly spoke of simply had a good laugh.

Also in the latest (may) administrative elections the North League suffered a heavy defeat, for ex losing everywhere in Piemonte and winning only Varese in the whole of Lombardy.

Not only you have no idea regarding the Balkans, now you show total ignorance about Italian matters too.

Lol
(Gustave, 31 May 2011 18:32)”

And where, pray tell, did I ever claimed to be an expert about Italy or the Balkans?????? I can’t possibly be as I am not from either area.

In my original post, I merely stated that I have read articles that suggested that there are people in north Italy who wanted to be independent of Rome. And I was able to back my words with actual articles. I have never claimed the articles to be accurate or inaccurate. If you dispute the contents of those articles, then by all means provide your views with supporting evidence – which you have failed to do so thus far.

It is YOU rather, who misinterpreted my words, deliberately or otherwise. If it was unintentional, I would suggest that you get your eyesight checked at the earliest opportunity before reading B92 articles again.

A modus vivendi is being worked out: Kosovo will be invited to - and attend - meetings in the countries that recognize it (US, The Twenty-Two, Japan, etc.) and will not be invited by Zimbabwe, Russia, Cuba, The Feckless Five ... This should simplify things, and prevent bad feelings.

Did everybody notice how the Poles and Slovaks handled things? During the first day, there were no flags anywhere, and the presidents were all represented by green bottles in front of their plates. And the papers (Serbian, not Slovak - they were busy with Parks and Palaces Weekend and the opening of the municipal swimming pools) could report with complete honesty that the Kosovo flag was nowhere in sight. No need to go into the absence of any flags at all, of course. On the second day, when Obama was present, there were flags for everybody. Obviously the Americans called the Poles and said that, since their guy didn't get to that part of the world very often, he might not be as recognizable as all the others, which would be embarrassing, and could they allow flags and symbols as a mark of hospitality?

And so both the Slovaks and the Kosovars went home happy. The Slovaks earned a favor in the future from Serbia, and the Kosovars got their pictures of the Blue-and-Gold up there with all the others. And nobody mistook Obama for the president of Montenegro (for example). Let us all give thanks for the diplomatic skills of the Poles. (Living between Germany and Russia, you develop a feel for this kind of thing, I imagine.)

Ya northen Italy wants separation. It would not surprise me if Vojvodina one day amicable will follow suit. I mean honestly the people there (excluding Bosnian Serb the refuges Mladiq) are very different from the South of Serbia. They seem refined, different views, well spoken, do not like butchering people, and totally different from the Serbia south of Belgrade. Even looking most of them a mixed of Serb, Austrian, Kroat, Hungary anything ju kan think of.
So Vojvodina is next to separate, but this one amicably, not with an arms conflict.
It is actually sad my beloved football team Jugosallvia is no longer there. This used to really bring pride to all the people of the country when in the West. It had talented players.

This means Tadic is about to arrest Goran Hadzic :)
(ivan, 31 May 2011 14:26) Not until Boris aka Borat and Goran make a deal. Goran wants to be in the Serb hall of heroic fame like Ratko and the other Serb criminal but in the real world known wide as the Serb wall of shame. A hefty life time pension for his criminal service from his criminal employer Serbia to keep his mouth shut. For Borat to arrange a visit for him a night with the ladies of the evening before good jail time. A Serbian president work is never done allays a Serbian criminal to serve.

Good move Tadic. Europe is dead tired towards the Albanians in Kosovo and you show once again that Kosovo always will be your province. Also, I think sending Mladic to Hague is perfect move. I know that for the general Serb, they want to clean up their past. But one thing is 100% totally clear. When it comes to Kosovo, Serbia and Serbs will never ever give up together with the vast majority of the world. Kosovo is a south Serbian province and it will stay so until the end of time if the Albanians want it or not. Thats totally clear.

"Italia with Berlusconi, North-South conflict and quite some percentage of the GDP by criminal organisation(s) - indeed an archetype country to guide politics of other countries"

Suddenly Italy, according to Serbs, is a rogue state while Romania and Slovakia seem to shine more. Unbelievable this kind of logic among Serbs.

"- Albania & Kosovo, one of the (if not the) most backward region in Europe, economical more or less not existent, associated with vendetta and criminal organisations - what can it contribute to economical europe and hence why should it be talked to at all?"

Because of this attitude you have in Balkans and elsewhere more enemies than friends. Could you mention two friendly countries around except Romania and half of Bosnia!!!!!

"- Catalonia and basque region - no separation allowed by European community here, so why on the balkan? Hence at least I can understand Tadic's motivation, as historically the Kosovo rather belongs to serbia then to albania"

The answer has been given 10 years ago but you time is stalled. Spanish army did not attack basques and killed or destroyed their properties while Serbia did all of these. That is why Europe allowed separation. For the moment being I would say that Kosovo belongs more to Albania than Serbia in case you prove otherwise.

Mr Tadic! Don't worry, this meeting is only between drugsmuglers and human trafficers. They will disscuss future drugrutes accross the mediterranean and a stabilization of the drugtrade market. Berlusconi will also discuss with his albanian counterpart the visa liberation for young eastern european women who will travel from Albania/Kosovo to be absused in brothels across Italy. No hassle to get in to Italy for them. Italy has also promised to invest 1 million dollars in brand new kidnapping equipment for their albanian mafioso friends. Kidnaping is the nr 1 occupation in albanian areas. 3200 kidnappers per square mile, the highest in the world. More good news! A new Italian subsidised hospital is opening in Kukes, Albania, where organ harvesting will be conducted with high tech equipment and with experienced and certified neurosurgeons. Perhaps one day Serbia can be a member of this fine organization.

Serbia should stand firm on Kosovo.

There should be no concept that Serbia will change its policy on this. Tadic should make it clear to the world that Serbia will stand by its ownership and attempts to rule the province beyond autonomy within Serbia (in line with 1244) will not be allowed to exist comfortably.

Recognition is not an option, and cooperation should be limited only to that that benefits those who were not yet ethnically cleansed from Kosovo by the Albanians who are trying to take over that piece of Serbian territory.

Serbia takes too much blame for what happened in Kosovo - Albanians were credited with the term 'Ethnic Cleansing' first being applied to the Albanian Communist Party ethnically cleansing Serbs from Kosovo long before Milosevic.

So better get prepared for isolation, unless Serbia wants to join Russian Federation.

Even looking most of them a mixed of Serb, Austrian, Kroat, Hungary anything ju kan think of.

According to the text "The president added that "clearly, Italy's institutions gave advantage to the presence of Kosovo's representatives at the event"."

It is pretty obvious that all EU countries that recognised Kosovo will give advantage to the presence of Kosovo's representatives at all events THAN Serbia 's representatives. And mind you there 22 countries our of 27.

So better get prepared for isolation, unless Serbia wants to join Russian Federation.

From Western perspective this is natural and nobody worries what Serbia would think.

Time for Serbia to reform and focus towards EU destiny. After arresting Mladic the main obstacle is Kosovo recognition.

--He also told the news agency that he was disappointed that he would not be able to attend, and that the decision came "considering that the president of the so-called state of Kosovo was invited as well".--

So he sends mladic to the hague (stops harboring him) and then shouts: Let us in to the big boys (and girls) club!! but everything else remains the same, keep tormenting the people of kosova, keep propping up dodik and co. nothing really changes, because the hyper-nationalism is so ingrained, and nothing really challenges it. and tadic and the other politicians use it, promote it, whatever they believe in their so-called hearts.

there needs to be a true denazification of the society, but there is not. there needs to be a true decontamination of the culture fr the 90s but there is not. the real leaders, the people with insight, are stuck on the margins as the dissidents, and the "leaders" continue to promote the same ole milosevic crap.

i am glad, of course, that mladic is going to the hague. but if it's just viewed as one more "trick" to win intl approval, then it is worse than meaningless. tadic and co. can continue this path, and continue serbia's isolation, which is a lose-lose proposition for the common people. and that's the best we can do?
