"You will become an EU member long before Serbia. That is why your independence from Serbia was a very good idea. Good thinking!!"

According to albanians Kosovo is independent from Serbia. However, Serbia has white schengen and Kosovo doesn't. Good thinking Serbia!!

It is such a joke. Serbs and Montenegrins are exactly the same people, Montenegro being simply the name of that particular region, it is like saying that the million Serbs that live in Bosnia are different to the Serbs in Serbia, it is ridiculous. Montenegro gained its independence by only 55% of the vote, now what that shows is a reluctancy by the general population to let go from Serbia, however the ethnic minorities such as the Albanians and the Muslims of the Sandzak region were eager to be independent from the Serbs because of bitterness from the wars of the 90s. Here in London where I live every person who I know that is from Montenegro recognises themselves as a Serb. There is no real reason as to why Serbs across the Balkans should lie in different borders, this is the doing of external interference.

Nothing to do with independence. Serbia and Montenegro are two sovereign states who broke up. They were the last states that ones was called Yougoslavia.

And I suppose "Kosova" or even Albania will be joining the EU tomorrow?

Actually, most Orthodox Montenegrins would. Would you argue with them?

The founding fathers of the Montenegrin state deferred to their Serbian ethnicity, acknowledging that while the populace was Montenegrin in nationality, it was distinctly Serbian in ethnicity. This tension or confusion continues to this day (ethnicity vs nationality). Montenegrin Prince Danilo Petrovic Njegos observed: "...there is no other ethnicity in this land except Serb ethnicity...", Code of Montenegro and The Highlands established in 1855. There have been voluminous works done regarding the Serbian origins of the Montenegrin state including the comprehensive work authoured by Petar Vlahovic in "The Serbian origin of the Montenegrins"

In 1945 president Tito’s communist regime began his infamous and insidious demographic indoctrination program to distinguish Montenegrin Serbian identity from that of Serbia proper. In his academic paper, Montenegrin Dr. Terzic, of the Historical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts notes that: “Montenegrin separate national ethnic identity was proclaimed by Tito's Communist regime in 1945 through the words: “Montenegrins are different Serbs than other Serbs”). However, this decision was based on old strategy of destruction of Serb ethnical, cultural and spiritual area. Through entire Montenegrin history, Montenegrins have considered themselves as ethnic Serbs by nationality"

Bravo montenegro, your relations with Serbia and the Serb community within Montenegro are at something like an all time low.

No matter which way you look at it, not really great diplomacy. Not only is it bad diplomacy but its dangerous politics to regularly persue politics that alienates a third of a population.
(bganon, 21 May 2011 18:03)

Congratulations MONTENEGRO ,at least they try to make amends restitution with their neighbours for following Serbia What is Serbian excuses ,non at all not even in the court of law only wants to keep what it stoled and murdered for shameful. Thank you America for giving at least Montenegro a peaceful exit from Serbias death grasp in ex Yugo and teaching Serbia a good lesson about bullying http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzL4L_FpLvE .

It would be churlish not to congratulate any country on becoming an independent nation if it is the wish of the majority to be so, and as a guest in the Montenegro, I would be the first to congratulate it. But what matters more is what is done with that independence once achieved. Montenegro has still a long way to go in so many aspects of its governance and indeed its culture. CorruptiOh ya...can you hear that sucking sound coming from the albanians?on and serious crime are still endemic, as is widespread intolerance of various minorities. Of course, such ingrained problems and attitudes take many years if not generations of hard fought effort to change, particularly when strongly rooted within some of those in high office.

Those same Montenegrins celebrate Kosovo's independence every day,so why not celebrate their own once a year? Soon they will celebrate independent
church day, independent language day and make Molo's birthday a national holiday--which means no work on that day either.

Long live independent Montenegro, land of cocaine and human trade, where all prominent politicians have male lovers, while keeping children and wives as well. Brothels and drugs, that is what we need in Europe!

Congratulations Serbia! Ever since Serbias independence we no longer have to bare the burden of our neighbours. We have a rich culture and Serbia is more successful in sports, science etc then our former republics. We no longer have to be associated with crimes like drug trad, human trafficing, cigarette smuggling, terrorism etc.
Once again, congratulations and may we continue to be proud of our motherland and our people.

Happy Independence Day Montenegro.

Shame it's Judgement Day today also. I await to be raptured. Then there is the earthquakes at 6pm. I have a feeling this will kind of ruin the independence day celebrations in Montenegro. It is very inconvenient.

Keep attacking the SPC and the sane Montenegrins who stayed loyal to Serbdom and then try alienating RUS by trying to join NATO and you'll be celebrating independence in exile
