Serbia will "continue" to exercise a positive influence on Bosnia? The FM is suggesting here that Serbia is currently a positive on Bosnia? An interesting albeit laughable notion.
Outside of clearly violating some fairly basic diplomatic norms (e.g. meddling in another country's internal politics), the FM is completely avoiding the fact that Serbia has done nothing in Bosnia but continued the disastrous policies of the 90s through a less overt fashion. Jeremic, for his part, has been at the forefront of this cover assault on Bosnian citizens with his bogus "arrest warrants" that have been thrown out of every court in Europe and his governments steadfast support of the ultra-nationalist and chauvinist politics of Milorad Dodik.
I do, however, agree that the OHR needs to be phased out eventually, and that is a fundamentally anti-democratic institution. Of course, what he fails to mention is, in practice, the biggest supporters of the OHR in Bosnia are people like Dodik who continue to give the international community excuse to treat Bosnia like a colony because they do absolutely nothing to create stability or co-operation between Bosnia's communities.
This, of course, is precisely what Dodik wants. Dayton created an apartheid system in Bosnia that has allowed nationalist thugs like him to create personal empires on the misery of all Bosnians--of course whilst pretending to "defend" their respective communities for their very, very evil neighbors. Should Bosnia ever become a true democracy and, of course, take steps to reform the apartheid structure of Dayton, Dodik and friends will be gone faster than you can say "goodbye."
All the more reason why Jeremic's idea that the OHR ought to be an elected body is so laughable. What he is essentially suggesting is a elected executive, a single president for Bosnia. Isn't that precisely everything Dodik and even Serbia proper have been raging against for the past 20 years? For God's sake, Dodik won't even allow the Bosnia Football Federation to have a single president, and Jeremic thinks he'll agree to something a elected OHR? Please.
They're talking out of both sides of their mouth, to say the least.
