This is great news! I'm sure Brussels will take note about how Zagreb is studiously dealing with war crimes. Looks like no Candidacy Status this june. Then again there are the Jermans behind the croatians... Still, Croatia has still to tackle sufficiently the remaining chapters that are the toughest.

"I wonder how many millions of Euros are being spent on their defence."
(bganon)

-- I imagine there will be some token gesture by the Zagreb government to appease the anger of Croatia's Homeland Heroes but only for show. The EU has already told Kosor and other HDZ die-hards to throw caution to the wind when playing the nationalist card too strongly if it wants to continue getting cooperation from Brussels. So an appeal will be made and that's about it. Sure there'll probably be some money contributed to the legal defense of these "heroes" that have been "unjustly" thrown into the same lots as evil Serbs bla bla bla, and I'm sure there'll be a few more Dalmatian extremists cutting themselves with glass like emos, and I'm sure good and "loyal" expats like Lenard from the US and Australia will throw in a percentage of their paycheck to keep the flame of hope alive, but other than that, we'll hear little more of these people.

The national catharsis is nicely summed up here: http://www.rferl.org/content/croatia_war_crimes_generals_gotovina_markac/16799126.html

Lenard I don't have any false impressions of Croatians. I've travelled throughout Croatia - there is no doubt the Croatian coast is outstanding.

I have little argument with the Croatian people. Its the idiotic nationalists who get on my nerves, you know the servile ones who believe in fairy tales of falling in love with generals and politicians such as Franjo Tudjman. The ones who start crying about Croatian victimhood and those evil Serbs! You know I almost wet myself laughing when I saw Milosevic claim that Serbian forces don't committ war crimes because of some moral code. That is exactly the same kind of primative bull that people in Croatia believed about their own, up until very recently.

The only bridge to pass over now is the one that takes responsiblity, you know the idea not to try to blame everything on somebody else...

Oh by the way, you talking about Croatia like this would be like me talking about Bosnia / Republika Srpska like its my country.

Jugoslavija is dead Lenard, its what you nationalists wanted. You are Bosnian and no amount of dreaming about beautiful Croatia will bring Jugoslavija back...
