WW2 revisited. The Catholic Church being political again and defending crimes committed by the Ustasha regime in 1992-1995. Serbs have poulated that region legally for centuries and when the Croatian regime decided to push for independance again WW2 was revisietd and Serbs thsi time would not have a bar of it! most rightly so. They defended their property with dignity against a Croatian army backed this time by the US governmet (modern day Nazi's). Serb population prior to independance was 580,000 about 12% of population and now its 4%. Ethnic Cleasing?

Thank God that Dubrovnik, Plitvice, Zadar and all other beautiful areas that were attempted to be destroyed by the Serbs were defended well by the Croats. Croatia wouldn't be the top destination for travel in Europe if the Serbs managed to have their way.

God bless all Croatian Defenders.

You are absolutely correct! If it wasn't for these brave farmers and Gastarbejters intoxicated with the nationalism of Tudjman, all your lovely Dalmatian coastine would never have been looked at by Italian, Austrian, German, Slovenian, and British corporations to carve up into expensive vacation time-shares. It would look just as impoverished and as undeveloped as "liberated" Knin still looks today. On top of that, Croatia wouldn't be in a position it is to be forced to privatize its 5 shipyards (and risk axing 25,000 jobs in the process). Yes, it's a good thing these so-called "Defenders" saved Dalmatia in time for others to buy up.

Now bringst das Bier, bitte.

I am NOT proud of Jasenovac neither is any other Croatian. But to always refer to WWII as a justification for Serb atrocities and rationale for dominance is unacceptable and only serves to cover the real intent of Serbian policy, which is to create a Greater Serbia at the expense of other nations. All this Serb agitation is for the purpose of provoking and creating a volatile situation as a part of the GS strategy.

It is really sad that Serbs cannot live in peace with Croatians. It has been like this throughout our history. Ask yourself why Serbs are not trusted in Croatia and seem to be targeted...well it's not that Croatian are hateful people b/c many other nationalities live in Croatia in peace...could it be that the Serbs themselves are the cause of the problem for continuously agitating and wanting to rule Croatia, take its lands and deny the Croats their culture in pursuit of their crazed dream of creating a Greater Serbia. I wonder how any other states or nations would react to a similar situation; how would Serbia react if Croatians wanted to create a Greater Croatia and were constantly agitating the situation in Serbia. The historical FACT is that Croatia has not crossed its borders in a war of aggression whether now or ever in its history including WWII. Croatians have always fought to protect and defend itself on its own territory. Even when Croatia could have or arguably should have crossed its borders it did NOT.

@BeliOrao... Nice nickname you have. I'm sure you are one very proud Chetnik. So when you think you know history so well, answer me this: how come so many Serbs from Serbia came to Croatia to fight a war against Croatia, but not a single Croat came to Serbia, other than to a prison or concentration camp? Your friends from Beli Orlovi are well known here for their brutality against civilians in a foreign country, in Croatia, so I dont think you have a right to talk about Croats who fought on their own territory, and never in Serbia. If there had been justice, you and all other Seselj guys would be in prison for a loooong loooog time

Sinisa, I could not agree more with you. Everything you've said is absolutely true. I used to think B92 is modern and reformed Serbian media well aware of reality and Great Serbian policy in the 90's. But to begin this kind of article without explaining why Operation Flash was necessary for Croatia, is just a sad way of saying: m
Milosevic was right, we did nothing wrong.
Tommorow there is one more sad anniversary in Croatia: 20 years ago Serbian rebels killed and massacred 12 Croatian regular police officers in Borovo selo near Vukovar. They were killed from ambush!!! How will you start that article? Maybe with a Serbian rebel who broke his nail while killing 12 Croatian policemen?

Get a grip! and I am sure those serbs at jasenovac asked the ustase to kill them.
But when you are raised with hate and taught to hate well....what can anyone expect.
Sorry but your facts and claims are lies.

The only ethnic cleansing that happened in Slavonia was from the Serbs. To this day, that area is Serb-dominated thanks to Milosevic. Vukovar was a beautiful city, and now it's just a town filled with the Serbs who destroyed it.

Thank God that Dubrovnik, Plitvice, Zadar and all other beautiful areas that were attempted to be destroyed by the Serbs were defended well by the Croats. Croatia wouldn't be the top destination for travel in Europe if the Serbs managed to have their way.

Why do you start the article with the number of Serbs killed and 'expelled'? If you want to start with the truth, why didn't you start with:

After years of brutal and illegal occupation by Serbs that forcibly expelled (ethnically cleansed) over 380,000 Croatians and killed over 20,000 women, children and elderly Croatians and destroyed much of the infrastructure and looted and destroyed much of the Croatian cultural heritage of the area to wipe-out any traces of Croatian existence, Croatia liberated its rightful territory.

After years of failed negotiations with Serbs, Croatian resorted to the last option available to regain its lands through military force. Which unlike the Serb aggression against Croatia which deliberately targeted and terrorized Croatian civilians, Croatia's defensive military operation was accomplished with relatively little civilian causalities and no deliberate targeting of civilians. Serbs of the area who left the territory did so on orders from their leadership days before the military operation started. The departing Serbs journeyed their way back not to some strange foreign land, but back to their ancestral homeland of Serbia.

This would have been a far more accurate and truthful account of the military operations conducted by Croatia to rightful and legitimately regain it's occupied territory.
