Nikolic is not the real story. It is the fact that he is (trying) or being put up to shake the ruling party's cozy relationship with Brussels as 'favored' partner. Remember that Tadic's coalition bearly squeaked in to power and only after a lot of heavy lobbying and guest appearances of a number of high profile western ministers supporting him and his peoples.
His legitimacy is weak even is he is fully endorsed by Brussels. It might even be a put up job by Tadic and co. to give them more leverage and 'wriggle room' against Brussels, i.e. "If you don't let up on the pressure and unreasonable demands on Serbia, you'll have much less cooperative people in power in Belgrade and where would you precious balkan stability pact be?". I say keep on shaking until Brussels backs off, particularly with their 'unofficial' demands...
