You have completely missed the point, besides Serbian gays only set up the parade because of the gay community outside of Serbia pressuring them, and the EU putting pressure on the phoney Serbian government to allow it. The minds of the Serbian people wont be changed, liberalism will not prevail in Serbia and i'm thankful for that. I live in a supposedly liberal country, the UK, and liberalism has destroyed society here.

"Serbia is still culturally strong"

Hate is not "cultural strength"

"US or EU tries to force them to accept it"

Serbian gays put on Belgrade Pride, not the US or the EU.

"this only fuels hate and makes violence more likely"

oh right. it's the fags' fault that 4000 thugs smashed up Belgrade because 500 people walked 1 block.

Perhaps this is because of difference in culture between Massachusetts and Serbia, while Serbia is still culturally strong as opposed to the extreme liberalism found in the Northern United States. How can you honestly expect EVERY nation and culture on earth to accept homosexuality? The fact is that the majority of the Serbian people and people of Eastern Europe in general is that they do not accept it, no matter how much the US or EU tries to force them to accept it, this only fuels hate and makes violence more likely. Liberal acts such as this aim only to destroy culture, I do not agree with aggression towards gay people but forcing a nation to accept something is not just a bad idea but it is also wrong. There was a clear message sent by the Serbian people when a peaceful anti-gay pride parade was held, in which thousands of people attended.

Hear hear, Nenad.

I'm from Canada, where gay marriage has been legal for 6 years.

I'm happy to report that the sky has not fallen.

John,

Well said. I live in America and while we're unfortunately falling behind other parts of the world in many ways, at least there are regions in this country in which we're light years ahead on the issue of homosexuality. I read homophobic comments on here (which B92 appears to have no problem airing, while strangely censoring much more neutral ones) and it's like my pc is a window to the ancient past. Here in Massachusetts, gay marriage is fully recognized and everything is perfectly calm and orderly. No trouble anywhere and lots of heterosexual people (and I'm one of them) are very glad to see gays finally enjoying full equal rights.

I will just add that widespread bigotry on the part of the posters on this site paints a very large picture of general intolerance and fuels accusations made against them by peoples elsewhere in the world.

As a gay bloke, l am appalled by a couple of the comments posted on here including "we don't want these people in our society". And who the hell wants people like you in our society? What have gays ever done to you? Sadly l can't say the same about heterosexual louts as l have been on the receiving end of homophobia and hate crime from people l do not even know and despite not being obvious in any way. Amazing how strangers can think they know so much about a person. To me, those who engage in homophobia and that includes those who have written these offensive remarks are the lowest of the low. l did not choose to be gay but neither do l do anyone any harm. Can you say the same? Any government that clamps down on such hatred is to be admired. Why do you have such hatred for people who you do not even know? l am not even prepared to give you any more of my time by writing this, short of saying that you disgust me beyond words.

The whole issue is ridiculous. The fact is that the vast majority of Serbian people do not want to see such a parade in Serbia but it is being imposed by pressures from the West, especially the EU. Violence like this only happens when people don't get listened to, in this case Obradovic, Obraz and many other organizations have had their views been ignored, and so violence unfortunately happens. There clearly is no freedom of speech for Serbian Patriots as for some stupid reason Serbia wants to join the EU, I live in the EU and such ridiculous liberal customs like gay rights are destroying society. I am not a fascist at all but our culture and people don't want this in our society, therfore it shouldn't be imposed by a phoney government.

A good ruling. Some prison seems to be the only language these idiots and hooligans will understand. "...were on the way to pray" as a defenst -purely ridiculous. They should be ashamed of abusing orthodox belief for their intention to riot.

@Ratko,

Seriously? New World Order? I take it you're part of the Neo-Nazi movement, considering that's one of the tenants of their beliefs.

Speaking of the "majority", the majority of Serbs could care less about homosexuals. What they really care about are jobs, money, and prosperity, all things that are lacking.

Holding a sign is equivalent to smashing a city.

It's amazing how some of you, privileged to live in western, liberal democracies cling to such backwards, totalitarian notions.

Holding a sign.

I can't believe you're for real.

That homosexual holding the sign in the gay parade 'smrt drzavi' - how come that person is not in jail? It's more then clear who ever is pushing gay parades is obeying new world order masters. These immoral people are a minority. Majority does not want this in their country end of story!

A good result. This riot that these degenerates organised had nothing to do with homosexuality or the Church, it was an attack on Belgrade and on the civilisation that they can never aspire to being part of due to their moral and intellectual inadequacy. It's reassuring to see the state can be strong against these threats. Obradovic now has two years in jail to cultivate a more practical understanding of homosexual issues.
