I think EU needs to reevaluate the membership process. It would be wise to consider what a country has to offer, and weigh it against what a country will certainly take.

This line of thought was not carried and a mistake was made with some current EU members (which shall not be mentioned) and it seems to me that these current actions essentially blackballing Serbia are chasing away one of the few non-EU nations who can contribute more to the union than they will request from it.

When the constitution was written it was the most advanced and forward looking document on this planet – it was a brilliant piece of work written by geniuses.

The system which was set up was the most democratic ever and all of this in 1776. We now live in 2011 and you predominantly still have the same system with little changes. Most systems tend to evolve, but not the US democracy.

How can anyone call a one party with two branches democratic is beyond me, but maybe some Americans have a different interpretation on this word. Just because they yell out democracy every day at you in the media does not mean you have it.

Predicting the collapse of the US would require a fortune teller and they are not very accurate at their trade. The only method that does not lie is the finance of a country and yours is in a perilous state. Even Standard and Poors is waving the distress flags.

All of this nonsense between Obama and the Republicans is just that, pure drama. Firstly, the US public is not ready for the “belt tightening” required to bring the deficit into line as there would have to be steep tax increases for several decades while the Corporations will not allow the defence budget to be reduced to help out. Social security and defence are the financial black holes – you would have to reduce defence to the point of maintaining no military bases outside the US while social security would have to be halved to have any hope of reigning in the massive deficits and money the US owes.

Disadvantages:
- Reduction of sovereinety when European Institutions ask countries to give some of their souvereign powers to the E.U. which doesn't always benefit to every country (They've already tried to take Kosovo)

Advantages:

- High reduction of war probablilty (Because you're already under the control of the richer EU nations!)

- All European countries entering the E.U. are bound to restrictions that are favorable to their economy and development (Serbia is getting the SouthStream gas line, things will get better without the EU)

- A European currency that reduces monetary instability, eliminates exchange rates and favors trade (The currency can be used without joining too, can't it?)

- Europe strengthens each member country because it is bound to other member countries and is therefore stronger against other big economies (This sounds really nice in good times, however we've already seen how everyone shares the burden when member economies become unsustainable.... ie Greece, Ireland, Spain?)

- Europeans can move around freely within the European Union and therefore seek for jobs in other countries than there own (This is pretty much the only real plus that I can see)

You must have only parties that do as they are told (such as in the US; the Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dumb parties) and every three or four years whoever is elected continues the good work of the previous administration unabated, but while in opposition you will echo concerns of the people until coming to office then the losing side will take on that mantra. It’s like a dog chasing its tale and never getting anywhere.
While there is great divergence in opinion and ideas about an issue it’s very bad for the EU because they want obedient servants who will always say that the emperor has wonderful cloths and never tell him that the breeze he feels is due to a lack of apparel.
(sj, 18 April 2011 12:17)
And of course no one would want to copy a system that put one country ahead of any other in power and economics.
While you may predict the collapse of America and the emergence of ----- as the new world order, these are only predictions, not proven facts. The future is still unwritten.
