A passage from the Preface to George Orwell's animal farm (1946), possibly the greatest piece of literature of the 20th Century:

"The servility with which the greater part of the English intelligentsia have swallowed and repeated Russian propaganda from 1941 onwards would be quite astounding if it were not that they have behaved similarly on several earlier occasions. On one controversial issue after another the Russian viewpoint has been accepted without examination and then publicized with complete disregard to historical truth or intellectual decency. To name only one instance, the BBC celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Red Army without mentioning Trotsky. This was about as accurate as commemorating the battle of Trafalgar without mentioning Nelson, but it evoked no protest from the English intelligentsia. In the internal struggles in the various occupied countries, the British press has in almost all cases sided with the faction favoured by the Russians and libelled the opposing faction, sometimes suppressing material evidence in order to do so. A particularly glaring case was that of Colonel Mihailovich, the Jugoslav Chetnik leader. The Russians, who had their own Jugoslav protégé in Marshal Tito, accused Mihailovich of collaborating with the Germans. This accusation was promptly taken up by the British press: Mihailovich's supporters were given no chance of answering it, and facts contradicting it were simply kept out of print. In July of 1943 the Germans offered a reward of 100,000 gold crowns for the capture of Tito, and a similar reward for the capture of Mihailovich. The British press 'splashed' the reward for Tito, but only one paper mentioned (in small print) the reward for Mihailovich: and the charges of collaborating with the Germans continued."

Interesting that you feel the Serbs were being punished by God for their
misdeeds of the 1990's. I have news for you, it was NATO that punished Serbia, but now Serbia wants to join NATO, go figure! Draza was not a victim of the West, he was just as guilty as Mladic is, both war criminals. You forgot to mention that the Serbian Orthodox Church is also guilty of "sexual extremism". Don't you think that your Bishop will be judged by God for his stance on gays and lesbians.
(The Count of Kosova, 15 April 2011 15:25)

What are you talking about? Both the new and old testament is very clear on gays and lesbians and how they will be judged.

Draza Mihailovic was on the front cover of Time Magazine in 1942 as the first organized guirella movement in the world who fought against the mechanized Nazi machine. However, Winston Churchill received false information and switched his allegiance to Tito's army who really did not care how many civilians died as long as his Communist movement progressed. During the Nazi occumpation, the retribution against the civilians were hard, for every German soldier or office killed, upwards of 20-100 civilians were executed. A good example can be found from an old German color file where two German soldiers were killed and resulted in the hanging and execution of over 50 innnocent civilians in Pancevo.

http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=104111

It is for this reason that Mihailovic drew back guirella activity while Tito did the opposite and increased his guirella activity. The best account of Draza Mihailovic is presented by David Martin in the book "Patriot or Traitor" where court documents are reviewed as well as the testimony of Draza Mihoilovic. It is no secret that Draza Mihailovic was drugged during his court trial as there were many instances where he forgot certain details and events and was not the same man while under custody.

Draza Mihailovic is responsible for saving over 500 US American airman, saving thousands of Serbian civilians from certain death and holding the Communists and Nazi's from further destroying the Yugoslav nation. As Mihailovic eloquently states before his execution;

" found myself in a whirlwind of events and policy ... Yet I stayed only a soldier. I am convinced that I was on the right track and I called all foreign correspondent, and even a mission of the Red Army to come to my Headquarters. Fate was mercilessly with me, when he was cast me in such a cruel storm, the worst possible that could befall a man. I wanted so much, a lot of that I have started, but the world storm they blew me and my work"

The execution of Draza Mihailovic was reported to be very gruesome and he endured torture and it is reported that the Communists did not allow a military execution to be carried out.

When Serbdom spat on Draza and decided to worship Broz, God punished us during the 90s even though we woke up. Trying to equate Draza with Nazis is a manipulation of the facts that he was collaborating with the Wehrmacht AFTER betrayal by the West and only against Comnunist forces. Let's remember God's judgement regarding any future anti-Christian legislation for sexual extremism by our govt.

The words "Chetniks" & "Draža Mihailović" send shivers to all ethnic groups who lived in Former Yugoslavia, especially Albanians. I remember my grandfather, who died in late 80's, telling us that "Chetniks" were the most ruthless of all he experienced in 80 years of his life. He experienced regimes from the Nazis, Ottomans, Montenegrin's, Austro- Hungary and Serbs- Chetniks were so ruthless, he would distinguish them from the regular Serb repression. One of their tactics was apparently going out on campaigns to solely kill babies in cribs. Looking at their black death flag conjures up images of Al Qaeda & just straight up death.
Can't imagine how a sane & tolerant person would put this group fourth as an example how a country should be lead.

1. If your Grandfather was Albanian, he would of surely lived in Southern Serbia, where the Chetniks of Draza Mihajlovic didnt operate, maybe your grandfather met the Chetniks of Kosta Penacac, Mihaljovic's enemies

That's right, especially Albanians why? Because they were part of the ottoman empire.

That's right, "He experienced regimes" but he was on there side, so he probably lived like a king during the Tito years. Tito was so good to the Albanian people, you were all kumovi.

Serbs have experienced regimes Like as you mentioned but on the bad end of them, not like you grandfather.

Nazis and there Albanian, Croatian SS friends and there occupation during WW2, how many Serbs were executed?
Ottomans which were Turks and Albanians, 500 years of Turkish rule in Serbia and the old Byzantine empire, can't start to tell you the horrors of 500 years of slavery, how many Serbs were executed and converted to Islam.
Austro- Hungarys, in bed with Croatians, potential take over of the kingdom of Serbia led to the the start of WW1, Thank god for Gavrilo Princip and the Crna Ruka Movement. May god rest his sole.

"kill babies in cribs" Titos propaganda at it's best.

Petar L. served under the commander of the Montenegrin chetnik division Pavle Djurisic,Vukosav served under Kosta Pecanac!
If only we as a nation had chosen Draza instead of that communist Tito the problems we faced in the 90s would have been avoided!
The Chetniks fought for Serbian democracy and were awarded the Legion of Merit by former US president Harry S Truman while the Partizans came to power on the wings of the Red army and established an anti Serbian communist terror regime.
There will be no peace until Draza is buried properly.

The timeline doesn't seem to make sense here. The Chetnik movement had rescued 500 downed Allied pilots in 1944 after the bombing run of Romanina oil Fields. If allied cooperation had been denied or rejected, and if Draza was "collaborating" with the Axis, why would Draza rescue these men instead of capturing them and sending off to German POW camps?

The lie and premise of this article suggests loyalists were loosing the civil war to the communists, thus moving into partnership with the Nazi invaders. Nothing could be further from the truth, as Serbia was betrayed by communist sympathizers within London and Churchhill's administration. They pushed and succeeded in the allies push to abandon Serbia to the communists and away from the Monarchy and it's loyalist fighters...the Chetniks. As Churchill stated that Serbia has found it's soul in it's resistance to Adolf in the beginning of the conflict, England and many of it's allies lost their souls in the end and allowed 50 years of communism to infect Europe like a cancerous plague.

"The Western allies denied support to the movement in 1943 due to their cooperation with the Axis powers and progress that partisans had made."

B92, I am sad that you are using the same tired, old, and incorrect information as the communists and their enablers did, the UK and US. It is true that support was cut off in 1943, but the support preceding the disposing of Mihailovic and his movement and the taking up of the partisan cause was paltry, at best. The partisans had been receiving many more times the amount of air-dropped supplies and technical support from BLOs (British liaison officers) because of the socialist-sympathetic officers' infiltration of that service's Cairo headquarters. Check out Michael Lees book on this very topic from either 1989 or 1990 to read accounts from British secret cables and conversations and experiences the author had as a BLO with the Cetniks. Tito and his "intellectual" duped the UK first, and then the US, by passing on false information to the partisan BLOs who already possessed a desire to see Tito's movement succeed over the royalists/capitalists on Gen. Draza's side.
Speaking about partisan progress: there was some major progress in the west, i.e. BiH, but Serbia was in royalist hands, the hands of the legitimate YU government-in-exile (which, by the way, succumbed to pressure and also eventually cut ties with Gen. Draza...nema sloge). Cooperation with the Nazis, and can you actually say it was directly with Nazis or with Milan Nedic's quisling government, would have been at the most minimal in order for strategic purposes. Tito wanted to sign an accord with the Nazis, but Hitler would have nothing to do with that, and scuttled the idea. Tito sought a strategic alliance with the Nazis so he could exterminate Draza and his men, to finally reach his goal of cleansing the country of the royalists so his movement alone could rule with a clenched fist.

Seek other sources...do not bank on the common narrative because you have to find out where that narrative came from. Do you trust the communist lies that were used to discredit, attack, and ultimately which led to Draza's show trial and execution?

Let's remember God's judgement regarding any future anti-Christian legislation for sexual extremism by our govt.

duke,

Interesting that you feel the Serbs were being punished by God for their
misdeeds of the 1990's. I have news for you, it was NATO that punished Serbia, but now Serbia wants to join NATO, go figure! Draza was not a victim of the West, he was just as guilty as Mladic is, both war criminals. You forgot to mention that the Serbian Orthodox Church is also guilty of "sexual extremism". Don't you think that your Bishop will be judged by God for his stance on gays and lesbians.

Long Live a legend. Serbs really messed up when they hopped on the Partizan bandwagon and we payed for it dearly with the fabricated nationalities of "Montenegrin", "Bosnian" and "Macedonian".

The 21st century Chetniks are still fighting for Serbia against the Titoists that are in power today. Instead of the obsession of Communism, it is replaced with the EU and neo-Liberalism. But the idea is the same.

1. If your Grandfather was Albanian, he would of surely lived in Southern Serbia, where the Chetniks of Draza Mihajlovic didnt operate, maybe your grandfather met the Chetniks of Kosta Penacac, Mihaljovic's enemies

2. The Chetniks of Mihajlovic didnt use the black flag, they used the Yugoslav Royal one

3. That passage about the babies is so see through that I doubt anyone will believe it, total crap propoganda.

Both my grandparents, Petar L. and Vukosav P. served under the Chetniks!
Petar L. served under the commander of the Montenegrin chetnik division Pavle Djurisic,Vukosav served under Kosta Pecanac!

If spreading propaganda is your goal, at least try to make something up which isn't as amusing as this. Second, don't pay too much attention to dad's anecdotes, it seems his sense of reality is tenuous.

BalkanUpdate,

"The words "Chetniks" & "Draža Mihailović" send shivers to all ethnic groups who lived in Former Yugoslavia, especially Albanians" I personal would not say lived more like occupied.

That's right, especially Albanians why? Because they were part of the ottoman empire.

"He experienced regimes from the Nazis, Ottomans, Montenegrin's, Austro- Hungary and Serbs- Chetniks were so ruthless"

Please do a little more research before you post your grandfather propaganda here.

Draža Mihailović May god rest his sole and my we find his holy remains and give him a proper funeral fit for a King.

Sounds like the US propaganda used to attack Iraq the first time, pulling babies out of incubators. Thought you were a bit more intelligent than to believe that type of propaganda.

Draza Mihailovic is responsible for saving over 500 US American airman, saving thousands of Serbian civilians from certain death and holding the Communists and Nazi's from further destroying the Yugoslav nation. As Mihailovic eloquently states before his execution;
