"French police said they arrested 59 people on Saturday at a banned protest against the law."

Can someone explain to me why it is perfectly ok for France to ban the burqa (which can be argued to form part of a Muslim woman's religious practice) and, furthermore, banned Muslims who disagree with the decision from gathering, and yet not ok for, say, China to ban unregistered Christian groups to an avalanche of hue and cry from the West?

I noted that the West did not so much as raised a whimper about the burqa ban -- double standards are we?
