"Even if Serbia somehow manages to become a NATO member, do you really think the U.S. would allow SSerbian troops to set foot in Kosova." (The Count of Kosova)

-- I really don't think the US cares. If Serbia is hypothetically a member of NATO, it's presupposed presence in Kosovo would be under the NATO flag and under NATO orders, not under their own. They could be given non-confrontational duties like guarding Visoki Decani and the Patriarchate of Pec - both knee deep in Albanian territory so I doubt they're going to do anything foolish.

"You actually sound more like highduke in your post." (pss)

-- No, because then I would have gone on about "reintegration" after NATO/Serb soldiers start this major campaign with Russia and China to retake the Balkans or something like that. Note the "oh what fun" ending.

Either way, Serbia isn't joining NATO so my comment was more in humor than any believable scenario.

I'm not a fan of Serbia joining NATO. I'm not even a fan of NATO. But think of it this way:

1. Serbia joins NATO
2. Serbs participate in KFOR
3. Serb soldiers are back in Kosovo
3a. Guarding monasteries and administering "border" checkpoints.

Oh what fun. Now I'll go back to work.

You actually sound more like highduke in your post. The only thing missing is that NATO wants Serbia to join inorder to facilitate the reintegration of Kosovo into Serbia.
While joining NATO probably would not happen in the next 15-20 years should that actually happen and they did let a limited number of Serbs into Kosovo per 1244, Guarding and administering is a huge leap from the allowable "maintaining a presence"
But you know that NATO would never allow Serbs into Kosovo without some type of formal recognition of Kosovo by Serbia.

Mike,

Most countries that have joined the EU also jointed NATO, but their experience in the Cold War was different, and they also were not bombed. Serbia joined the Partnership for Peace program and our country will continue to have relations with NATO through that program," Đelić said.

Mr. Delic,

Your attempts at trying to avoid NATO membership as a step towards joining the EU will result in becoming, at most, a candidate only. In case you have not recognized the new paradigm, being in the Partnership for Peace program will allow Serbia to, perhaps, if Mladic is caught by Serbia, advance to candidate status of the EU. If Mladic, in the mean time, dies or is caught by anyone other than Serbia then all bets are off and Serbia will remain in limbo. If Serbia qualifies and is allowed to join Nato, it will have cleared another hurdle on the path to the EU. However, make no mistake about it, this by no means guarantees entrance to the promised land.

Joining Nato would be the biggest misstake in Serbian history. I hope for the sake of our people and country that no Serb leader dears to take the step of joining this organization of hypocrits and imperialists. Nato needs cannon fodder in their many wars accross the world, nothing more. Which one of our neighbours could threaten Serbia? No one! Serbia can defend it self and not have to rely on Nato to save their sorry asses like most of our wimp neighbours.

Think Kosovo is Serbia protests times 5 if Serbia made moves to join Nato, however, it would allow Serbian soldiers to have unrestricted access throughout Kosovo, just as Albania has several

I think he's either deluded or economical with the truth. He's probably trying to paint a more civilized picture for EU and brush away any opposition to membership amongst the Serbs.
A closer look at the last countries that became EU members shows that virtually every entrant has become a nato member.
The EU is Nato's political and economic arm and Nato membership is a pre-requisite to EU's one.

Ireland and Austria aren't members of NATO but are full and active members of the European Union. So its not an issue and nor should it be. Hope you're members soon.
