From my perspective, its absurd to think or entertain notion that
Serbia should join NATO any time soon.NATO has no future with out Russia in it.Further more wounds are still fresh from NATO bombing of Serbia.
Why it would be in Serbia National interest to join military alliance
who is engaged in colonial warfare?Yes,Serbia better pay attention how
Russia would feel about it.Russia is not a communist country anymore. They have no plans to rule the World. They are busy building their own democracy which is not so easy.Serbia should do the same.West and NATO
are engage in recolonization of Islamic countries, Nation building and social engineering.Neither Russia or Serbia should ever be part of it.

NATO is not a threat to Russia. NATO is a balance organisation that is there to keep international peace. NATO did this successfully for many years in the face of a self-declared expansionist communist party running the Russia federation.

The only time NATO has acted is when incompetent dictatorial dictators such as Milosevic or Gdaffi have gone grossly against international norms of behaviour. I expect that this will continue to be a useful role for NATO in the world, putting the brakes on the ambitions of murderous micro-regimes run by mafia like rulers.

As for the NATO balance with Russia, it is irrelevant whether Serbia joining would change that status. Serbia is only one small (if occasionally troublesome) player. However, it would be much better for the region if Serbia would join and play a useful part along-side its neighbours.

Russia does not have to be in an antagonistic stance with the rest of the world, and despite a certain amount of mild rhetoric there are essentially stable relations between Russia and Europe, China and the US. That would not change if Serbia joined NATO.

Historically the Russians do have bad memories when looking towards Europe because of Napoleon and because of Hitler. You cannot blame Russia for wanting a stable balance in that direction. Equally however, Europe in particular lived for many years with a Russian invasion of Eastern Europe and the nuclear threat extending across the whole continent. Those fears are largely past, but they do have some effect on peoples' thinking.

Serbia is not going to feel good about NATO after the interventions against Milosevic, but that does not mean that Serbia does not naturally belong in NATO. However, I don't think Serbia should even attempt to join NATO for a long time yet. This is not an urgent issue.

Hey braveheart.
I guess you just blew Serbia's cover.
If you had said nothing, maybe they "stupid" NATO leaders would not see this coming. Unfortunately now they know Serbia's intentions, thanks to you.

Serbia will never join NATO and this statement from the Russians only confirms that point. The Russians don’t need Serbia to act as an insider because the Russians have more than enough on the payroll now to keep them well informed.

This is nonsense. Serbia keeps 'opposing' NATO, but the truth is Russia would love having Serbia in NATO as an insider and report them confidential data!
