KOSO,

Nice copy and paste from the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo website. But that doesn't make you an expert. The reason that Kosovo only produces 30% of the wheat it consumes and imports the rest is that it does not pay enough for the farmers in Kosovo to raise the crop. I'm guessing you also read the balkaninsight.com article but put your own spin on the situation to blame the Serbs for your problems. A boycott would be irresponsible for the AmCham to call for since that would affect the average Kosovar by raising prices on a staple that Kosovars are already struggling to pay for. It is also irrelevant since Serbia already declared a halt to exports of the crop to protect prices at home. Protectionist policies are not what any commerce agency would advocate. It would be more of a free-trade agreement that the AmCham would probably put forth that would stimulate competition and grow the economy.

And I'm not an average reader. I have a BSBA degree from a college in my home state in the USA, not a U of P correspondence degree.

This is the type of response you get from an Albanian when they have no rational answer to a sensible question. But as you have stuck your head above the trenches then you can answer my question.

“Embargo with what? Where do you think Kosovo is located? Just outside the State of Ohio? Kosovo’s income is insufficient to pay for the amount of goods and food stuffs required let alone money to run a government and stay afloat – Kosovo is subsidized annually by the EU otherwise your lot would STARVE.”

I wait with anticipation to hear your explanation. Tell us how Kosovo is sitting on billions of barrels of oil or maybe gas or Albanian BS which can fertilize the entire world. You know, things that will earn the Albanians big money.

If wishful thinking was a money earner than you guys would be trillionaires, but wishes don’t wash dishes.

Mrs. Tahiri, it's time Kosovo returned the good will nature of Serbia with an old fashioned embargo.

Enough is enough.

Thanks,

And the Serbian side will never go with any agreement that recognizes Kosovo as an independent. It's as easy as that.
(American Eagle, 26 March 2011 19:38)

Exactly my point! I dont understand how agreements will be reached if the two sides have contrary views on the very foundation wich every issue is related to. It is impossible to change the reality on the ground so Kosovo independence will not change and the best possible agreement the two sides can reach is some kind of autonomy for northern Kosovo. This actully goes against what I belive because how can a small minority as the serbs in Kosovo deserves autonomy when there are a big minority albanians in Macedonia wich dosent have the smallest portion of rights as serbs do in Kosovo?

Partition of Kosovo is out of the question and that wont happend. US and majority EU member states recognize the existing borders of Kosovo and respect its territorial integrity.

If Serbia dosent recognize Kosovo there will be no EU membership for Serbia. And if Kosovo dosent give the serbs in the north some kind of autonomy there will be no EU for Kosovo either. This will be the outcome of the dialoug mark my words. Both Kosovo and Serbia must have to agree on this because with time they will be surrounded by EU countrys. And EU will not accept having two countrys in the middle of Europa outside the union.

But I guess you have hopes on Russia. Just compare US to Russia and see the difference in every aspect.

Here you are living happily somewhere in the West and demanding something that doesn't effect you so why don't you go and live in KiM and then demand an embargo where your living expenses double or triple?

Clearly what needs to happen is a cantonization of Kosovo. I myself am from Kosovo Polje, but not even I would dare to imagine the pain of integrating 2 million Muslim Albanians into a real European society. It is simply not feasable even if by some miracle Albanians agreed to it.

We are just 2 way different societies. On one side you have a modern, European democracy with hints of corruption. On the other you have an entirely corrupted society with cities that resemble Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Go to Urosevac for example, you would never think you are in Europe.. you would think your somewhere in the Middle East.

It would just not work. The only feasable compromise would be for Serbia to get entire control over North Kosovo (It already has it in fact) as well as Pristina authorities to pull out of Strpce & Gracanica. Serbian police needs to come back to those cities to protect our citizens much like a Kaliningrad situation. All the Orthodox Churches scattered throughout the rest of the province must also be under SPC (which it already is) and guarded by UN peacekeepers with Serbs participating.

In return, Serbia would establish cooperation and some kind of relation with the authorities in Pristina just to normalize relations between the two peoples. I suppose also not hampering those authorities aspirations in the international arena, short of UN membership.

That to me is a real compromise. Each side loses a bit but nobody is left with nothing.

What would happen next of course is, North Kosovo, Strpce & Gracanica will be the most modern and well off places in the territory and it will cause the Albanians to go mad and start another war. When that happens.. THEN we full integrate the rest of the province while deporting all the criminals and illegal aliens on Serbian soil.

The trade imbalance is there because Serbia and BiH-controlled boycott our goods while we let Serbia's goods inside our borders.

As far as the rest of your rambling, nothing you said is consistent with reality. It's not only Kosovo's wheat products that will inflate, this is a world wide phenomenon. Our farmers only cover about 30% of the demand mainly because Serbia's goods (UNTAXED) dilute our market. With an embargo in place the price of growing wheat will go down, the trade imablance will shrink, and farmers will have an alternative crop.

Right now it simply doesn't make sense for a farmer to grow a crop in which they lose money.

But what do I know? I'm part of AmCham that provides thorough analysis of business and economic climate in Kosovo and your just some avg reader who came upon one article.

Gjoko and Dodo,

I'm not sure what article you mean to post a comment on but it looks like Kosovo is begging here. Tahiri is asking for Kosovo's customs stamp to be recognized and it was a clear NO. Serbia isn't begging for anything here. Kosovo is. And it is clear that the Serbian delegation isn't saying anything that would recognize Kosovo while Kosovo is begging for electricity.

KOSO,

How can Kosovo, which has a huge trade imbalance with Serbia, try to boycott their largest supplier? Did you see that Kosovo is now worried because Serbia has announced a ban on wheat exports? Kosovo doesn't produce enough of its own wheat and Serbia is the main supplier meaning that prices for bread will be going up again. How would you last without Serbian imports? Is the population of Kosovo willing to pay more so they can make a statement with a boycott? With the low salaries and high grocery costs, surely not. Be realistic with your solutions. A boycott won't happen even if the politicians called for it because Kosovo can't afford it.

This strategy is getting old, Serbia is getting older, things are in the right direction, with or with out Serb participation.

Very tricky negotiations for Serbia. One wrong word or statement and they can technically recognize Kosova. Looking at these negotiations from the outside, it looks like K-Albanians have more to gain from these meetings than Serbia.Serbia needs to tread very very carefully.
