Officials reveal South Stream details

How the heck becoming a gas hub can boost a 'political significance'? Does Serbia plan to act like Ukraine, i.e. blocking gas transit in winter time to pressure Russia? I though one of the reasons for South Stream was diversification and bypassing unreliable transit countries?

"The South Stream gas pipeline will be built because it is in the interest of Russia and the EU, according to what was said at the project's presentation in Belgrade on Wednesday"
Sounds like Serbia really does not have a choice in the matter, as far as strenghtening the power of Serbia, can someone explain how Serbia will be more important than the many other countries the pipeline will cross?
