The only thing that the US/EU has invested is to keep the existing regime in power in Pristina - to maintain control over the population. Hey, I maybe wrong, but how much has the west invested in Kosovo again? I can’t recall how many industries have they opened up? Will this meeting in Baltimore improve things? Will Microsoft or Ford or GM or Boeing move some manufacturing to Kosovo?????? It costs the US/EU nothing to bleat BS about freedom and democracy in Kosovo.
NATO and its expansion is finished so you can keep it if you like. The Russians are happy keeping the stupid Americans busy spending more money they don’t have on trying regime change in Libya. Now the US knuckle heads are beginning to realize that the opposition in Libya is not the Northern Alliance of Afghanistan and it looks like a long and drawn out conflict that will go on for months and months (where did I hear “Mr President Iraq will be a walk over”?).
Talk about deluding one self.

Lets be clear, The USA gave every type of support from political, monetary, coaltion building, and most importantly active MILITARY support to Kosova. Russia did absolutely nothing. The kind of supoprt that Russia is giving Serbia right now costs Russia nothing. They have nothing to lose by saying "Kosova is Serbias".

Wow, what great friends Serbia has. Tadic is practicaly pulling Putins pants down out of excitement, but the Russians didnt care enough to even defend you with their guns and bombs.

Russia will be Serbias friend as long as Serbia keeps giving them companies for NOTHING. As long as they can keep Serbia out of NATO they will be your "friends".

When push comes to shove, Russia has always cut and run from Serbia, and they only support Serbia when they have nothing to lose. When you look at all of this "support", its really Russia benefitting from Serbia. Did you ever notice how Russia only supports Serbia after the fact? True friends support you from the beginning to the end.

The Kosovars learned a long time ago the Russians cannot be trusted. Serbia didnt get the memo.

I would be very sceptical about the recent love-in between Belgrade and Moscow and all this Putin mania nonesense. Yes there are strong links due to orthodoxy but if anything we have seen, that when push comes to shove, the Russians have pushed the Serbs under the bus. I am still angry of how Russia abandoned Yugoslavia twice in 1991 and 1999 when they left us to the mercy of NATO. Serbs should not put all their eggs in the one basket. I am not a Serb but I do understand the strong links between Serbs and Russians but I do believe that Serbia should further strenghten links with China, Brazil and India as well as keeping the West all sweet. We in Serbia are in a unique position due to not only our geo-political position but also the presense of many religions and ethnic groups in Serbia (East & West, Orthodoxy-Catholicism-Protestanism-Islam). Yes I welcome the visit of Putin but we should keep all options open and expolit our strenghts.

Some of the comments from the diaspora Serb nationalists are laughable.

Yesterday Putin praised the Slovenians for looking after the graves of the Russian soldiers killed during WW1. Today in Belgrade he could add that there are very little of such graves in Yugoslavia because Serbians to compose 90% of the two Yugoslavian armies had set their country free before we stormed Beograd together. Outside the USSR only in Yugoslavia there was a real partisan movement. All other “how I won the war stories” were written in post war period. After the USSR and the USA combat losses which Yugoslavia has suffered in WW2 were 3-rd in the coalition ! Then France somehow found itself a heroic nation with a chair in UN SC while Serbs were later bombed as if they were children of Dr. Gebbels.

I dont believe this visit will bring anything new to Serbia except some form of rhetoric and condemnation of western policies. Either way the EU states are being very clear with Serbia. Plot your course and choose your path in any way form or shape you desire. No matter which path Serbia chooses it still has to deal with the issues of Kosovo, Bosnia, and Croatia. The good news is that the days when the politicians in Belgrade decided to send tanks over the border are over and now they have to think long and hard how to solve this century old problems peacefully. Not an easy task for sure but not unsolvable either. I hope the Russian president ecourages Serbs to engage in peaceful and practical solutions. The region has seen enough desctruction.

I read B92 to keep up to date but the comments have become childish.

You are taking the words from my mouth, B92 should do a better job in censuring stupid and low level comments which have started appearing the last few months !

Putin is a snake and one should pay attention when dealing with him !
Serbia has certainly a good card to play, but nothing ever comes free from the Russian. Yes some, like my friend Zoran would argue that EU isn't any better... yes to a certain extend but there is still an important difference when it comes to business ethics....
At the end the geo-politic component is very well present on both sides!

$250 million cash for SrbijaGas and $500 million plus investment in new infrastructure for one deal is 'nothing'??? With great financial minds like this (if Mr. Nomer 'Truth' is to be believed), the albanians will take over the world and the chinese will be shaking in their little boots.
