"You really expect the population to fall by 75% in 40 years? Even if not another child is born between now and then, it would require the death of most of the population now alive from other than natural causes. What did you have in mind, war, famine, or plaque?

They're going to be running out of young people to replace aging workers and to support them after they retire, which is probably why they're talking about relaxing the one-child policy, but a decline in absolute numbers is fantasy.

Where did I ever state that I personally expected the popoulation to go down to 25%?????? Stop putting words into my mouth!!! What I did was to recall a newspaper report that I had read.

In case anyone is interested, I actually just found an online UK research which projected a few scenarios, one of which projected that China's population could fall to 800 million, not at mid-century though but in 2099. http://www.sthelens.oxon.sch.uk/Geography/Downloads/Geopress%20Factsheets/Geo%20factsheets/152%20china%20population%20policy-update.pdf

"I recalled reading a hardcopy news article that China's population, because of its stringent one child policy, is destined to eventually fall back to 800 million sometime in mid-century. If true, all this hoo haa over her huge population growth is premature.

Not to worry, Joe. Word got around (I have been to China twice) that you are a warm and fuzzy person.
There is a bus load of people from China moving to your gated commuity any day now.

How to keep them busy and content too. What a job.

As to further territory for our albanian friends, cannot Saint Ceku, he of croatian citizenship, welcome his flock to Croatia? There's plenty of space in the Krajina since the serbs were ethnically cleansed legally by the Popes of the West. Coming to think of it, the Slovenes are great fans too, loving kosovo's albanians so much that they wanted to stop paying the kosovo tax or actually spending any of their money on the rest of yugo that they decided to go their own way. Cheering on the kosovo albanians in public sure is much cheaper than giving hand outs (I wrote 'hand outs', nothing else ok?).

I agree with Joe...as Hungary should open it's doors to the flood of Albanians
(micahel, 1 March 2011 00:45)

Surprisingly maybe not a bad idea. Look at the mortality statistics and pay attention at the life expectancy.

http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/6326/screenshot20110301at255.png

There is definitely something wrong in the air: an EU country with lower life expectancy than Albania. I am not even talking about countries of Yugoslavia or, say, Slovakia.

Maybe the good solution is really to grab one double-headed eagle or two, a checkered chess board, some blue, white and red paint and begin to decorate the "zero" stone in Buda, just in front of the Chain Bridge.

Poor Joe, imagine - one day he receives his dream passport from Hungary, opens it, and a little eagle flies out of the passport, flopping with the wings and chirping "Faleminderit".

I guess, one more mortality to register.

The decreasing number of young people is a bigger problem. At one point few youngsters have to feed a billion of elderly folks.

The population problem with "one child" was not solved - it was merely pushed few decades away. The potential over-population problem transformed itself into a potential social security disaster. It will be solved of course, Chinese hope by the economic growth.

The high Albanian growth rate ended about 1995, as can be seen from this graphic: http://www.d-transition.info/countries-glance-3/albania-159/

For comparison, Serbia: http://www.nationmaster.com/country/yi-serbia-and-montenegro/Age_distribution

I think this is a typo in the figures, China's population more likely increased 6.3 million people since yesterday. In any case, only the Albanians have greater population increases than the Chinese, guess they never heard of birth control, and want to bring more children into poverty.
