Libya is rich from oil reserves its students can study anywhere at any university in the world and all paid for by their Government. In fact Gaddafi has not remained in power since the 1970s for nothing. He has provided excellent hospitals and social security systems for his people – this guy has done many, many worthwhile things unlike some other middle eastern despots. Gaddafi was the trail blazer that forced the other regional governments in the region to provide many of the services these people now take for granted. That’s the good side.
Now that he is America’s best friend, the US would hate to have him deposed and replaced with a democratically elected leader who is not friendly to the US or its policies. Poor old Obama he does not deserve any of this – he should have been president during better times.
For those that have followed all this closely one and only one thing repeats itself over and over again. As one demonstrator in Bahrain summed it up “Where is the US? It talks about democracy and freedom and when we want true democracy its words are not matched with action except for giving our governments the bullets to shoot us with”. This is what is destroying the US in the Middle East and the rest of the world.
Notice that its only the US or US-employed journalists/film crew that are attacked? Not the others.

As usual, excellent comment.
