Israel took control of the West Bank as a result of a defensive war. The language of "occupation" has allowed Palestinian spokesmen to obfuscate this history. By repeatedly pointing to "occupation," they manage to reverse the causality of the conflict, especially in front of Western audiences. Thus, the current territorial dispute is allegedly the result of an Israeli decision "to occupy," rather than a result of a war imposed on Israel by a coalition of Arab states in 1967.

If Israel ignores the events that are taking place in the Middle East it will do so at its own peril. The Palestinians haven't benefited from the peace agreement signed between Israel and Egyptian dictators.Nothing apart from more oppression, more theft, more torture, more land grabbing and more illegal settlements in Palestine.

The Middle East, like the rest of the world is changing and the west is not longer the dominant power to decide who wins or who loses. So Israel is going to have to learn to live in peace with it's neighbours and not rely on Uncle Sam for long term protection.
