I agree with you American in Serbia 100%!! Customs are just one of the many things in Serbia.

Serbia is notorious for its ultra inefficient systems everywhere, when its time to do paperwork or anything at a government office be ready to spend your entire there, and instead of getting 1 thing done efficiently at one place, they will send u to 5 different places.

Fill this out, then go pay it at the post office 10 blocks away. Then come back, show me you paid it, then here's an other form to fill out, go pay it at post office 10 blocks away, come back again.. and so on so forth.

My story is 100% true and not exagarated either.

I have more customs horror stories, I ordered some kind of controller from china, and it was sent as a "sample" on the declaration form. They never let me claim the item because 'fizicko lica' can't get samples!! OH NO!! so i lost $300 dollars because of some morons!!

i got tons more stories

I just wanted to mention that I was dead serious about my last comment and I had no exaggeration whatsoever with my experience with the customs office chief. It was a true 100% experience, one that you would expect in a third world country. This really needs to change because Serbia is moving ahead.

I like the sharing stories of custom experiences:
I ordered a 16 USD book from the USA and had to pay a 60USD cutoms fee...that doesn't seem right. May be it is though.

Yep, I think this is a good investigation for Insajder. Customs officials are clueless and tax items ridiculously. It is robbery.

If items do not have a tracking number and customs officials like it, they'll keep it for themselves.

Serbian customs is a joke and so is the mail system. We've had many packages goes missing while those that do, come opened and with large custom bills. I had a car part sent over that cost £160 and I had to spend another £160 on custom duties and administration which took them 4 days to complete. There is severe corruption and inefficiencies within the system.

lol sounds too familiar deki, once I went with my attorney to the customs office because I was treated like crap but when I showed up with him I was then respected. I would be very surprised if the The head of the customs office who I had arguments with has a high school diploma, he looks like the leftover of Socialist YU. His behavior was something you would see on a farm or in a village's kafana NOT in a chief's customs office, it was sad.

Serbian Customs officials are the most uneducated dumb idiots I've ever encountered. I order stuff from Ebay all the time

1) They accused me of running a business selling stuff

2) When I ordered from Hong Kong, and they wrote Hong Kong dollars on the customs declaration, the morons assumed its US Dollars and made me pay 7000 dinar duty on an item that I paid $32 USD dollars for!! When I called them, they said 'well sorry we dont have hong kong dollars in our computer, so we had to select something'

I'm not suprised if many are corrupt.
