I have followed this very closely for a very long time and all of this was waived in front of Serbia’s nose claiming that “no recognition of Kosovo then no SAA, no visa free travel no trade agreement. I have lost count of the number of EU politicians, heads of state etc making these statements; your Albanians have been repeating the same over and over again. Remember “Nothing will happen until Mladic is handed over to the Hague”????????? Hmmmmm???
“EU is treating serbia as a seperate state from Kosovo” - No its not. If that was the case it would have begun the process of membership straight after the EU countries recognized Kosovo as independent – Kosovo is already controlled by the EU so what problem? It runs the judiciary, police, administration etc. It’s EU money that keeps Kosovo alive?????? Technically, Kosovo is far more advanced in adopting EU standards than even some current members of the EU.
“Serbia Will NEVER join the EU with Kosovo” - watch and learn. Kosovo is too expensive for the EU – it’s a money pit and it’s now trying to hand over it slowly and under the pretext of “talking to their neighbors”. You see it only the Washington knuckle heads that have kept the same stance, but their days are numbered – just look at Egypt – slipping through their fingers; next on the list for change other middle east dictatorships (funny how the land of democracy prefers to deal with dictators?)
But tell me what does Kosovo have that would stop the EU from selling out the Albanians to the Serbs? Minerals? Fresh air? What?

Gee remember this one” Serbia will never have the SAA until it recognizes an independent Kosova”. Yes the SAA is all independent of the EU; but who is then the EU if that is so???? Is the EU a Martian state?
I am not in favor of Serbia joining the EU or signing the SAA, but I want to tell you people just where you stand – nowhere! What carrots are you talking about? There are no carrots in any of this but EU’s desperation and you can smell it like fear.
All the carrots are used up helping out the various EU members.
(sj, 11 February 2011 12:39)

Again sj, no one has ever stated or even slightly implied, not once, anywhere, at any time linked the saa with recognition of kosovo.
Why the desperation? doesnt hurt me in any way if you want to play dumb, funny yes, but it doesnt change anything, so why do it?

Serbia Will NEVER join the EU with kosovo.

The SAA, visa free travel, Every Single iota of european integration ... confirms that the EU is treating serbia as a seperate state from kosovo.

Cant help you if you wish to stick your head in the sand.

I admit, this is the best possible answer under the circumstances.

Unfortunately per my experience the benefits at the destination do benefit selected few only. I am extremely sceptic that Serbia can pull out better ideas than what I experience here in Hungary.

EU needs Serbia largely for transit routes and logistics. If you look at the map - RomaniaBulgaria link is extremely weak: one single two-lane bridge now and one railway track.

This will change soon with one more link via Vidin-Calafat.... now delayed till 2017.

And that bridge is not much better either, just looks more modern. Adds one lane of road in each direction and one single railway track.

This is one of the very problematic bottlenecks.

The other is the (lack of) Romanian freeway system. The obvious solution is to get the entire transit route under control and here Serbia is just in the middle, practically no easy way around it.

You cannot count on the Durrës-Pristina-Skopje freeway either because on the Bulgarian/Macedonian side there is nothing.

Add seaport expenses - and Albania-Kosovo-Macedonia joining EU (and Schengen) soon being completely unrealistic.

So

1) EU clearly needs Serbia under control for trade routes.
2) The "Western" military alliance still plays the little war games around Russia. Indeed - if no Russia, why on Earth anyone would need the "Western" military alliance? It has no reason to exist... other than what they have to create.

Here, Serbia as potential Russian military ally is a "problem". Completely self-induced problem but that's an other matter.

--

And does Serbia really need EU? Sure, as a trade partner, to keep the best relationship. Nothing more. The example of other "East European" countries now in EU shows that the ones who did benefit the most were the ones who are the closest to the money-rich EU contracts (bribery, corruption, the ex-communists being the quickest one to turn around etc-etc-etc, no need to go in detail, it's a common knowledge here).

So probably the real only benefit for Serbia is some sort of "EU-compliance" - which is better, than "Balkan-compliance" but I can imagine much better ones.

Would be now year 1988 - than yes, by any means. EU in 2011 is not the EU in 1988.

You aren't going to see many Albanians flood the forum today as they would for a "recognition" of Kosovo. I'm sure some of them are thinking right now, "WHAT?!?! WHAT'S GOING ON?!?!?" As some of us have clearly stated, the EU is in a weakend position and are admitting Kosovo is no longer at the fore-front of the agenda anymore. It will not be long as the situation worsens in Kosovo and Serbia reaches another deal that the Kosovars will be protesting and trying to black embassies to protest such actions (or like they kept trying to go to court to block the Serb/Yugoslav teams from playing in Euro 2000, etc.). I'm sure some head-scratching is going on.

Remember Albanians, two years ago when everyone jumped on Russsia about Kosovo, what did they do? Turned off the gas in the winter. I can see some direct correlation from that and Germany wants to send your beloved realtives back home. Oh, but ti seems once again you guys are the last ones to realize this. Why don't you run to the US and cry foul...oh, that's right! They have their hands full and have no time for you. Can you say KARMA?

Save for MPs of the opposition Left Party, all parties represented in the Bundestag voted in favor of the law on SAA ratification.

Yep, our so-called "lefty" government in Serbia is aligned to the Western right, however, it is the international left movement that gives us true support.

Borders have definitely been drawn in the Balkans, Hoyer said speaking about Serbia's place in the EU, the country's cooperation with its neighbors and expectations that Belgrade will soon launch a dialogue with Kosovo.
--
Now that statement sounds a bit desperate. If the EU can't agree on the Balkan borders how can they definitely be drawn? Are they putting all hope in Serbia now? I thought status was not being discussed? That statement is just wishful thinking since Germany is largely responsible for the mess created.

Gee remember this one” Serbia will never have the SAA until it recognizes an independent Kosova”. Yes the SAA is all independent of the EU; but who is then the EU if that is so???? Is the EU a Martian state?
I am not in favor of Serbia joining the EU or signing the SAA, but I want to tell you people just where you stand – nowhere! What carrots are you talking about? There are no carrots in any of this but EU’s desperation and you can smell it like fear.
All the carrots are used up helping out the various EU members.

Minerals? Fresh air? What?

"The German minister also stated that Serbia should not block Kosovo's European perspectives, while Uta Zapf of the opposition Social Democratic Party underscored that the SAA ratification will bring Serbia one step closer to the EU."

I wonder what "european perspective" Kosovo should have, with 5 EU members states not recognizing the "indipindince", and with a renewed government that will be header by the same alleged criminal and election manipulator.

This is an important goal...Germany is THE boss (in EU) so their ja means that Serbia will be a Eu candidate status in 2012..but i think that the process will be long at least as much as Croatia...

Another step closer to the EU. Congratulations.

One thing is for sure, you have absolutely no idea about 'Europe'. Better get in you spaceship and go back to Uranus.

please explain yourself. Otherwise one would have to assume your comment was just an angry desperate outburst.

I admit, this is the best possible answer under the circumstances.

Unfortunately per my experience the benefits at the destination do benefit selected few only. I am extremely sceptic that Serbia can pull out better ideas than what I experience here in Hungary.

the saa and other european integration plans are all indepndent of EU membership. No need to embarass yourself by pretending otherwise. 2 fingers up serbias collective nose as it slowly draws serbia in.

If you are tasting something sweet... it is the carrot. Do enjoy!

well, since you seem to be happy to get some attention...

could that be the reason for those desperate comments written here? I mean, all those contributions displaying the need to be somebody ( alleged illyrian descent ), wishful thinking so to say, ...or those helpless attempts to provoke angry serbian answers against "western"-contributors, ...although it´s so obvious that it´s only some mislead k-albanian kiddies trying to get some attention...

well, Basta, you´ve got my attention! I am highly amused by you and your comrades! thanks for that!
