A question for Serbians who, I’m sure, have a better feel for this issue than outsiders; how much of a possibility exist that this is some end-run by the government around the Serbian people toward agreeing to some level of acceptance of Kosovo’s independence. I am not suggesting that they are secretly planning to recognize Kosalbainia as part of some grand exchange for European integration, but is there a chance that this is some incremental step toward that? It is very hard to ascertain from the outside the government’s commitment to Serbia’s territorial integrity; my best read is that if they got a good deal from Europe regarding the EU and believed that they could sell the whole thing to the people, they would do it. Not that the government appears unified; the foreign minister seems to be less pliant than the Prime minister, but again, it is hard to tell if the differences are real or just theater. Any enlightening perspective would be appreciated.

To me there are 2 Possible agreements.

1. Kosovo and Metohija (excluding the North) remains an autonomous province of Serbia, either UN or Serbian troops are sent into the province to assist KPS with peacekeeping. Hashim Thaci, Agim Ceku and other KLA commanders are extridicted to the hague, The Kosovo Albanian Authoroties achknowledge the truth about Racak, That the KLA were terroristsand that Serbs have been living in the province far longer then Albanians have

or

1. Kosovo gets independence under the name Kosovo and Metohija, Serb populated areas and holy sights (eg. Northern Kosovo, Granicha, Kosovo Polje, The Patriachate of Pec) remain parts of the Republic of Serbia. Krajina, Republika Srpska and Northern Montenegro are sceded into the Republic of Serbia. Hashim Thaci, Agim Ceku and other KLA commanders are extraticted to the Hague. Kosovo Albanian Authoroties achknowledge the truth about Racak, that the Serbs have lived there for far longer then the Albanians have and denounce the KLA as terrorists. Visa restrictions are removed. Extra KFOR or Serbian troops are sent into the place to keep the peace alongside KPS.

I personally think these talks should start asap and get it over with.

If Serbia drags them in the name of "status" then I would vote for shutting the doors, building a wall and finding alternative routes around it. Even a partition of North would be fine.

Serbia has and never had any good intentions towards K-Alb, they were forced to respect the rights of K-Alb under Tito but that was not the natural order of things.

Serbia naturally wants to force Kosovo to resign Independence by making their lives misserable through status issue. These negotiation are a perfect tool for using this as a power stick.

Albania lost her credibility with the West when she attacked Dick Marti for doing his job and a much needed service for all humanity. Not to mention the first investigations into the organ harvesting, and Albania's involvement, and her cooperation ...

I just don't see the point why all this back and forth talk! Who cares if Albanians are ready. UNMIK is there, right? Talk to UNMIK!

'Cooper is best-known for his exposition of the doctrine of "new liberal imperialism", as expressed in his The Post-Modern State (2002). This contains such ideas as the designation of countries as "Failed States", "Modern states" and "Postmodern states", and statements such as "The challenge to the postmodern world is to get used to the idea of double standards". His world-view is said to have been influential in the political thinking of Tony Blair as well as the development of European Security and Defence Policy.'

Oh dear. Seems like Serbia hasn't learnt from its experiences with Ahtisaari.

If you are going to have these talks at least have a mediator with a proven record of being fair like Bildt, or Lajcak.

We have kept you waiting untill now, we will keep you waiting further.

That is how we do this.

The time Belgrade could tell us what to do is over, for ever!

You can look from your side of the border into how Kosova will go his own way.

The talks may never start bc the narco-politician organ-thieves know they must negotiate re-integration bc the Marty report, ICJ & UNGA fiascos of last year prove that Serbia wont just look for a diplomatic loop-hole to give up & bow out like in an Albanian wet-dream
