Exactly, we're all one big hybrid mass in the UK, to a greater or lesser extent. It's a well known fact, for examle, that until 200 years ago there was no such thing as a geordie. Then some Scotsman made love to a pig...

Well if Andy Carroll's worth £35 million, anything's possible :-)

Firstly, Murray is a quarter Geordie which makes him a quarter English!! :o)

But saying that, as an Englishperson I think this whole business of being English or Scottish is nonsense. He is Scottish first and British second, the same as I am English first and British second.

I don't have a problem with that at all. And like to see all of his Scottish fans alongside a few union jacks.

But Britain can take no credit for him getting where he has got to, and he is an incredibly good player who works very hard and shouldn't be undermined. He got there himself via a camp in Barcelona, and was totally out of the LTA system in the UK.

He hates the LTA for trashing his brother's career early on.

Good article to read for any interested people [ http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/tennis/the-last-word-if-murray-wins-today-it-will-be-in-spite-of-british-tennis-2198408.html ]

@ Joe - I can't believe you wrote that. And Doot - what a pathetic comment. You two need to get yourself a life - maybe together?

Scottish, Irish, English or Welsh, I am sure we all agree when I say "do one".

You get that the whole time on BBC or Sky.

We get that here in Ireland as well, even though we seperated from the UK along time ago. I remember the same was applied to boxers Barry McGuigan, Wayne McCullough, F1 drivers Ralph Firman and Eddie Irvine and wait for it, even the Ireland football team. I recall watching ITV around the time of Euro '88 in the wake of England been eliminated, and the presenter Jim Rosenthal said "now lets see how the other British team is doing in Gelsenkirchen". We were playing Holland in the group decider.

Mind you, he said this with a straight face.

The mind boggles.

This guy can be a good example for all serbs and russians that you can conqure not only with Kalashnikov in your hand but a tennis racquet as well.Congratulation.

Signing off with a congratulation does not hide the fact that you are sad. What a very very poor comment, what makes you tick?

Good job Dokovic, I watched the entire match, I had to wake up 5:30am in order to see it on Espn here in Sao Paulo, but it was worth it. There will be more slams going his way if he continues to play this good.

Dokovic won fair and square, he is a great player and he has an excellent career a head of him. But when is Murray going to win something? He came runner up yet again... please win something Murray!

There seems to be a few Scots who read B92. I'm another. My wife is half Serb so one side of the family is happy. With the Serb interest I follow both Djokovic and Murray so fantastic to see them both getting to Grand Slam finals. It rankles to see him being described as British (in the UK the joke is he is Scottish if he loses and British when he's doing well.)

Another useless comment that could have been missed like an aching tooth if the vain author could only resist at times to keep his hugely inflated ego under control. Congratulation to Novak and all his opponents during the tournament. Sports is about connecting people. It is sad that certain people like Joe always want to draw politics into it. I am sure he would not have made this comment if Ana Ivanovic or some stunning Russian babe had won, which only proves that Joe is extremely biased, hypocrite, and just Joe.

Nole,

All the way - Focused to win and to grab # 1. Congrats to winner and got great speach too.

Joe,

Again tried sport forum to promote his sick propaganda. Get life man and be greatfull to Serbian and Russian for better life you having - all winners in WWI and WWII.
You still preffer Indian killers and world land grabbers - always will be cowboys and live with guns even today.- to protect AMERICAN WAY OF LI(f)E - and you bought it blindly. Feel bad for you.

Relax and educate yourself - play tennis and be fair player.

I’m Scottish and my partner Serbian so, in our home we would always have a winner! Nole was a well deserving winner. His speech at the end was world class. The whole world saw and heard a wonderful sensitive and sympathetic guy, dedicating his win to victims of the Australian floods and to the Serbian people. The world needs to see more of these Serbian good guys, on and off the tennis court.

Peace and respect to all

Superb performance by Djokovic.Murray was totally outclassed and became increasingly frustrated as the match went on.

On today's performance i would confidently say that Djokovic is at the same level with Federer and Nadal and he's destined for bigger trophies.

Some superb tennis, then Murray appeared to have left the arena leaving a shadow!
Credit where credit due, the better man won on the day (though if I'm honest I expectd Novak to 'crack' first, how wrong)
Again well done and congratulations...
