There are a number of considerations that bear on teacher pay. For example, how does current teacher pay compare to the pay of other professionals that require a similar set of qualifications? What burdens might be placed on the payor by a pay increase? Are there demonstrable benefits that would offset the burdens? How does current pay compare to that in other similarly situated countries?
I don't have a clue as to what the answers to these questions are in your neck of the woods. These are the practical and equitable considerations, not theories about the value of education as I wrote in my previous post when I was a little too happy from celebrating Novak's success and liked to listen to my mind think. Lord forgive me.

In this highly competitive world of technology, one of the most important investments a country can make is in education. Almost any country can overcome economic and infrastructure disasters with the help of the international community, but without quality education they might not even come close to Germany's and Japan's success following WW2. Economically speaking.

On the other hand, I believe that Germany's and Japan's success right after WW2 had little to do with their education, but much to do with tenacity, perseverance, creativity, innovation and above all, desire. We must remember that in the late 19th century Europe had a more highly developed educated class, many of whom did nothing but walk around preening themselves (scratching their butts),and keeping busy telling everybody how educated they were. At the same time, America was busy and happy and unselfconsciously doing whatever needed to be done. Also economically speaking.

Education is a big topic which reasonable minds can differ on. I guess I've just been havin' fun sittin' here scratchin' my own butt an' havin' fun writin' this. If you got this far, hope you did the same!

Can it really be realistic that teachers teaching in Belgrade are earning barely more than the nationl average for the whole of Serbia? Are teachers, doctors and emergency services the bedrock of any modern society? Without teachers where would we be? Surely, it is not unreasonable to pay these highly skilled professionals who have the future of the country in their hands a reasonable living wage? I wonder just how many of the ministers in the Ministry for Education would be prepared to work for the salary that teachers are being asked to work for. Add to that the additional requirements that are being thrust upon teachers such as integrating special needs pupils into their everyday classes whilst still maintaining the standards of the average pupil and you begin to realise just how unreasonable the current level of salaries really is. I am amazed more teachers dont turn their back on the profession. But that is another point, teachers do their work because it is a vocation for them. Its about time this dedication and skill is fairly rewarded.

also, the Prime Ministers main job is to oversee the workings of the entire government and parliament to ensure that they work in the best interests of the citizens they supposedly represent. Mirko forgot to read his (new) job description
