What if they cannot find a woman qualified for the position. What if that person has a feminist bias agaisnt men as do many female bureaucrats embedded within Western Democracies. If such a woman were chosen then she is not serving needs of her people, but rather the needs of the New World Order and its attempts to remove any distictions between gender and or sexual behavior. This is nothing more than EU and its tyrannical attempt to reengineer and modify people to eradicate the traditional Christian Family order that is an obvious impediment to the New World Order Agenda.

Yes of course Ida, anything you say. Obviously I would like to see people I don't like put in wheelchairs, every last one of them!

I'm so bitter and twisted I always accuse people of being witches, traitors and love the idea of these people hanging from lamp posts. I hate the idea of freedom, peace and reconicilation.

Burn them all, I say!!!

I will end with a quote from Kate dear Ida:

'Women can be as lethal or crazed as men - an 'equality' which nobody wants or should aspire to.

bganon - you defend Kandic, but weren't you the one on the blog "Belgrade 2.0" glad that Goran Bregovic injured his back when he fell from a cherry tree a few summers ago and even wishing that he was permanently paralyzed. All because you are jealous of his wealth and feel he doesn't help the poor (Roma) enough? A man who has generally helped promote Serbia and it's image versus a deceptive anti-Serb propagandist.

Kandic IS a witch who works to harm Serbia and Serbs. She pushes demonizing propaganda and lies against Serbs which does harm. Meanwhile she abuses the distraught relatives of missing Kosovo Serbs.
Now that reports are coming about these kidnapped Serbs being held and tortured or some transported to Albania to have their kidneys removed, she is totally quiet.
It's people like her who are complicit in crimes against Serbs, since when you cover them up (by not talking about them, suppressing evidence, etc. when you are in a position such as hers which is ostensibly to report on human rights) you allow the criminal more free reign to continue.

She is a horrid liar.

Kate its not a case of softening your comments against her because she is a woman, its a case of finding an extremely negative example of a woman. She was not named in this report. Why was it necessary to name a vilified female to condemn in this instance?

If you don't know an example of a positive female in Serbia to mention, could you deduce why this might be? Of course they exist but why do we have a massive list of negative women and an invisible list of positive ones? I don't think you've done anything 'wrong' wittingly btw. Personally I would not condemn these 'witches' as some have called them, because I disagree with them politically. Look the troll have even come out to multiple vote - trolls who from past experience at B92 are invariably right wing, conservative etc.

A good sign of equality for me will be when women are not demonised as much as they are.

kate

@ bganon - I agree that women perceived to have killed are often treated with more venom than men. Personally, I think anyone who kills other people whether directly or indirectly are all as despicable as each other.

I am not Serbian, but I do know many women from that part of the world who have senior jobs and face the same sort of difficulties that any woman in the rest of Europe faces, whether openly or not.

But I do totally disagree about my comments against Kandic. I would say, and have said, similar things about males who have power and/ or a public voice and misuse it to their own ends, especially when they hurt other people in the process.

Why would I soften my comments against her because she's a woman? I view everyone as individuals whether it comes to praise or criticism. That is equality.

bganon

TP I partially agree with you, but I'd disagree with you about legislation.

For example didn't legislation ensure that women gained the right to vote?

If you are talking about quotas that is something else. I am not for putting in anybody incapable merely because of their gender. On the other hand I am for making sure that both men and women have equal opportunity to be in such a position.

Kate, you must realise in the Serbian context that behind the attacks on those individuals are of a conservative nature. Conservatives are more likely to believe that a woman's place is in the home and that a woman in a position of power will be crazed. You must realise for example that women who commit the same crimes as men in the west are more demonised than men are. The excuses are perhaps something we can secretly sympathise with - surely a woman (a life giver) couldn't take part in the killing of a child. For that she must rot in hell 500 times, be vilified in the media and burnt at the stake, a man should be sent to jail, the key should be thrown away and be forgotten for the same crime.

That is why you won't find me taking part with attacks on certain women, even if I disagree with them.

I disagree with Kandic, but don't think that she should be demonised and there is no question whatever that she is demonised.

Those ‘…crazy men who led us all to disaster in the 1990's’ were not entirely from the former Yugoslavia; nor were they always men.

Nevertheless, in every area of power, wealth and influence, men are still predominant in all nations, including the politically correct and overdeveloped western ones that seem to be insisting that Serbia include women in its negotiating team.

One cannot simply legislate or appoint equality into existence.

bganon: "Of course we have some crazy women about, but, in the former Jugoslav context at least, its invariably the crazy men who led us all to disaster in the 1990's."

Firstly, I would never be negative about women, only individuals, which is what we should all be viewed as.

Secondly, I don't know about NGOs, and don't doubt that there are too few women in public office in Serbia just as in the rest of the world. But there are proportionately more women visible in government and public life than many other nations.

Thirdly, I agree with the comment above; it usually is men who lead to destruction and war. But what about Hillary Clinton, Condoleeza Rice, Madeleine Albright etc. who have been greater warmongerers than most of their male counterparts? Again, it is down to the individual.

Women can be as lethal or crazed as men - an 'equality' which nobody wants or should aspire to.

bganon

pre 13 godina

Kate perhaps in the NGO world there are plenty of women in Serbian society, but in politics and business that is not the case.

To be honest I don't find your comment on a 'negative' woman very helpful, nor do I think that these negative images of women in power helps the position of women. Rather it cements the idea that when women get in a position of power they are plain crazy.

Of course we have some crazy women about, but, in the former Jugoslav context at least, its invariably the crazy men who led us all to disaster in the 1990's.

Just to clarify, when I said "Actually, I am surprised" - I was meaning that this would even be an issue. You should choose the right people for the job regardless, and hopefully one day every now again they may all be women!

In the meantime, we just need an equal shot at getting there on our own merit.

kate

Couldn't one of them just wear a wig and a J-Lo curve cushion?

Actually, I am surprised. Post Communism there remained a good number of women in high positions in Serbia (although I am sure they had to also do all the domestic chores as well!).

This appears to have led to the acceptance of women in high offices, and proportionately Serbia has been better at this than many other nations, especially in the region. And they don't need positive discrimination to do it.
