European standards is beneficial for Serbia's society, said he.

Alright, but what exactly sets "European standards" apart from let’s say Canada or Japan and their "standards"? Both are very progressive and modern in the societal sense, yet they are nowhere near Europe. What you meant to say Mr Jeremic is everyone agrees that reforms are needed and they are beneficial for Serbia's society.

Labelling reforms as European, Canadian, Japanese, Martian etc makes absolutely zero difference, reforms are reforms. So lets focus on that and not the yes-eu/no-eu conflict as you say.

They know that it's a path without a real alternative, it will take a while, but in the end, the country will benefit, slowly, but steadyly. Even the steps which are done to fulfill EU candidacy status are positive.

'Categorical Euroskepticism' on the other hand is like: 'The EU is bancrupt anyway. The EU won't exist in 2020 any more. The EU is a new form of a foreign reign. We should join Russia instead...' and similar nonsense often to be found here.

You are confusing European and modern stadards to that of countries in the EU, to a path to forcefull entry into a club that Serbia will be allowed to wait tables in. This is the case with every single country in the Balkans. Why cannot we apply the same standards there are in Western Europe, which many agree are important. There is no need for a foreign power to stand over our backs telling us how to reform our society with having little to know knowledge about it.

According to you, joining the EU cannot be something discussed, it HAS to happen. What should be discussed is when are the Euros going to fall out of the sky. Instantly or over a gradual period time.

Nonsense. This is nothing different than the leachers who were saying we must join Nazi Germany because there just is no other option. The fact that there are euroskeptics IN Europe like Nigel Farge with significant proof that the Eu works for no one but a elite few does not really matter.

Serbs have historically been the most independent ethnic group in the balkans. This is why they needed to destroy us to turn the region into a restaurant full of waiters and servants.

"Mr Jeremic, the current government just as every government after 2000 has practiced blind EU-enthusiasm. The type of thinking that you are undemocratic and even mentally retarded if you do not support EU integration."
(Nikola, 24 January 2011 14:25)

You seem to have a strange idea of what 'blind enthusiasm' is. For me, it would mean: Oh, 'once we joined the EU, everything will be fine, everyone will become instantly wealthy'. It's surely not the case regarding the Serbian governmen. They know that it's a path without a real alternative, it will take a while, but in the end, the country will benefit, slowly, but steadyly. Even the steps which are done to fulfill EU candidacy status are positive.

This is supposed to be some democratic institiution the puppets are so deseperate to join. And yet, no national debate and probably no referendum when the time does come to join.

Lets just pray that there will be no EU to join by the time they decide Serbia is fit enough be in its prestigous club.

EU history tell us there was hardly any accession referndum todate by any country
and if the EU is still around by the time Serbia will be ready to join, which i very much doubt, there won't be one either.

If Serbia decides to have a referendum then you will get referendum after referendum until you say yes to joining the EU club. Then there will be no chance to change your mind no matter how much the club rules change or how much the bill goes up. There will always be a reason why you won't need any referenda in the EU, somebody with their hands in your pocket will always know better.

'...we cannot afford inside conflicts regarding EU integration..."

Why not? That’s what true democracy is all about.

Serbs are not united regarding EU membership and, I'm fairly certain, increasing numbers of people already living within the EU are less than happy with the union as it stands and would express as much by democratic means if they could. That's why there were few referenda allowed within member states regarding the Lisbon Treaty, and it is why, many believe, the EU is neither properly democratic nor of any serious long term value to ordinary Europeans.

The fact that the British-educated, and usually highly intelligent, Mr. Jeremić now resorts to this kind of 'agree with me or shut up' attitude betrays a certain uncharacteristic desperation and shows that, for reasons we can only guess at, he has already capitulated to the authoritarian and near pathological mindset of the EU's modus operandi.

Jeremić spoke at the presentation of the latest issue of Challenges of European Integration, a bi-monthly magazine, where he noted that support and opposition regarding Serbia's EU integration were two legitimate political views, but that blind EU-enthusiasm and categorical Euroskepticism were harmful extremes.
