the Clintons and the Bushes merely look at them in puzzlement and bewilderment, but they do not identify with them nor seek to defend them. Politicians and leaders are on the periphery of the American peoples' minds.

So what you are trying to tell us, is that what the Washington nomaclantura did, does and will do has nothing to do with the Americans will... quiet interesting, so in other word the election are pre-cooked or what, something is not clear to me.
If really the majority of the American are against what Washington does, so why do you allow it to happen, why no protest, why not throwing them out, why not claiming it loud... I could list another 10 why that you will have difficulty to answer.
Last but not least, do you think that what happend in Wall Street 2 years ago has anything to do with ethics? How many people were cheated, but this time not by politicians...

You are another one that chose to miss the whole point and went on a cross- examining trip like a show-off lawyer that's got his girlfriend watching him.
The subject was the American people,(the spirit of a country) not American ruling class and some bankers. The subject is the ideals and values of the the American people, not their perfection. The point is that a whole new world is evolving, and while many countries choose to live in an illusory past, and blindly glorify it, the American people recognize that the past is over and that they are forever creating themselves anew now.
The truth can be attained only by recognizing the false and discarding it, and this is what America has been doing throughout her history. And that is a manifestation of the driving principle behind its formation and evolution--which is Liberty.

If you and Leonidas long for the demise of America to satisfy some secret longing for revenge (jealousy?), you will only hurt yourselves, boys. I can't understand how you can hate these people, or any people, or any living thing for that matter. You boys need to come and see me down by the river some Sunday.

Yes we'll gather at the river,
The beautiful, beautiful river
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the Throne of God

It looks like Putin through "his" CEO`s is looting money from state-owned Rosneft and Gazprom in the first place and later reinvesting it via offshore companies into taking stakes into those two companies who then, because of poor management, need foreign expertise to develop Russias resources.
Apparently he and his burocrats know only how to steal and loot these companies, for running and explorating these large oil fields that is however not enough ,you need some know how and investment.
It is really remarkable how well private Russian oil and gas businesses (Lukoil,Novatek)are doing compared to those state companies.
They beat them in every point, from profitability,know-how etc.
It is really disgraceful to see that Putin is slowly but surely turning into another Yeltsin who is just interested in robbing his countries resources and transfering them to his Swiss bank accounts.
There is absolutely no difference between him and his gang and the Yeltsin oligarchs...
With that kind of corruption "culture" ,Russia will NEVER be able to reach its full potentials...
It is a shame that a country blessed with so much natural resources has a common living standard three times lower than Germany which has absolutely no resources at all...

Your statistics, numbers and facts miss the whole point of the original post, which even has the answer to your MLK dig, which is: We are all MLKs here, we all have the American dream. The whole world does!
Like I've said, economies come and go, even civilizations. Look at your Greece; at one time a great and flowering civilization and look at you now.
Besides, Leonidas, I've got the whole inside story. America is being undermined so Texas can take over. It's a conspiracy started with George W.

Duh, look at Walmart's revenue and see how many iPods and iPhones (all American technology) are sold worldwide. There is no money in making cheap stuff, Germany until last year exported more than China. And Germany has about 85 Million people and very high wages.

How many Chinese scientists got the Nobel this past decade?
Name one top Chinese brand like Microsoft, Google, Boeing, Coca Cola, Intel, Cisco, General Electric, Ford etc? You can't because they have none. They only copy, work like robots under US /EU supervision and that's it. Oh, and they have a cheap currency, by 40%. That will change and ruin them.

Much what you write matches what I did experience, but I would mention Dilbert cartoons - my favorite. They expose other things than honesty - integrity - work ethic of management of NEARLY ANY major American company.

IMO, both the problem and the blessing of the American economy is it's reliance on the stock market. Stock market is impossible to predict long-term - hence the usual focus is the short-term gains, even at the price of long-term goals. And since nearly everyone in the country is stock market frenzy - that spoils the good picture.

For myself - I have zero talent in stocks, I admit it proudly and don't step on that slippery path.

I agree - at least for Silicon Valley - the politicians and leaders are the last what we do care about. The biggest thing people care in Silicon Valley is money... but that seem to be a problem, too.

So I neither really agree with you, nether really disagree. I HOPE you are right because my entire retirement is in Social Security, I wish America the best.

@Top:

The list you did presented has one major flow, and that's the second member of the list. Also member #6 is a question.

Here is why.

We got used to more endurance, more reliance on cash and people are extremely conservative in their needs. The entire country is essentially a LOW PRICE country. The products the country produces are for sure not the best (or used to be not the best), the economy after 80-s and 90-s is still in pieces. We can say, it's maybe sh*t - but at least it's a REAL sh*t. And people are less demanding. So ultimately what remains from that "6.112" at the country's disposal could be MORE, than what remains from the "37.876".

Because way to much of that "37.876" is bogus and has nothing to do with the value. Good example is the ultra-expensive toilet paper Pentagon uses or more commonly - the following case.

2006 my parents visited us in California. They had travel health insurance via Allianz. My father got an asthma problem immediately after a long transatlantic flight, which is a normal thing. I let his insurance pre-approve with a local hospital and he was admitted there and stayed about 5-6 hours at the emergency room. After some help he was given necessary medication and it looked like things were settled.

To my shock - they weren't. The hospital produced a bill of well over $10000 and the insurance refused to pay it because much on that bill was double and even triple billing. They tried for a while to get the money from us - but since I did not sign anything - they could not get a single penny. At the end they sold it to a collection agency and I sent them to the hell. Things ended there, but they tried.

Now - just FYI - that bogus $10000 + bill was also part of the American GDP of 2006 and the whatever price the hospital sold it to the collection agency was part of the American GDP of 2007.

Obviously these were 100% bogus. There is no country like America with so many inflated and bogus bills - I could write endlessly.

If we would stripe all the bogus, America in 2050 will land up roughly in the same liga where Japan, Brasil or Russia is. It's not a tragedy, but it's nowhere near the imaginative 37.876.

I can see that you understand nothing about the American people. You are clearly one of those persons like Mircea that knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing. You have been watching and wanting to judge us like we are all Clintons and Bushes and blinding yourselves to the truth of who we really are, what we stand for and what we are really all about. There is a whole universe unfolding that you know nothing about. While you busy your petty little mind greedily devouring a couple of pimples on America's butt, she just rolls along and pays no attention to your insatiable desire for hate.
America is an Idea, man, not an economy.
Economies come and go, but the spirit of the American people--their honesty, their integrity, their work ethic, their courage and their wish to do no harm lives on. We are a country of many Red Adairs that can plug up all leaks and do all sorts of things that most believe impossible for humans. We are the melting pot of people and ideas from all corners of the universe.
Sir, the overwhelming majority of Americans don't wish harm to anyone or anything in the world. To judge a country or people by a few short-sighted and insane politicians that the people DO NOT GLORIFY is absurd--unlike an ideological conglomeration like Croatia, who even distorts and twists "her" church to falsely enshrine, sanctify, glorify and celebrate its evil regimes, leaders and history--all manifestations of their ugly hearts.

You're probably another deluded albanian still believing the US is the promised land and unable to see what is the actual situation on the ground.

In US at present there is a double-edged debt crisis which is now poised to crush the economy — on both a federal level and a state level.

Many states and cities are cutting their police forces. Newark, for example, just laid off 18 percent of its police officers in November. Others are releasing prisoners early because there isn't enough money to house them.

Philadelphia, Baltimore, Sacramento, and many other cities are laying off firefighters and emergency medical personnel, shutting down firehouses.

Many states — including New York and New Jersey — have attempted to stop the bleeding by refusing to pay their pension funds, which are now collectively underfunded to the tune of $3 trillion.

Governor Chris Christie slashed New Jersey's budget by 26 percent, laying off thousands of teachers firing 2300 state workers .Yet he's still facing another $30 billion deficit next year.

Also in Illinois, state officials are being evicted from their offices for nonpayment of rent.

California now faces a deficit of $48.5 billion over the next 18 months and annual deficits of at least $30 billion for the next five years. This is despite Schwarzenegger's drastic cuts at every level.

At federal level piper Ben Bernake still plays his flute by parashooting $trillions out of thin air thus containing the economy from collapse.Beware when Bernake stops playing his pipe!

With regard to Cyprus if it wasn't for the US and Nato there wouldn't be any crisis. It was the US and Britain that have attempted several times to divide Cyprus.Hence we had the Zurich agreement, the Acheson plan, the Annan plan
all planned by Britain and the US in order to divide Cyprus into two nations.
Also the cisis in Greek-Turkish relation has another angle-that is both countries being clients of the US military complex buying their expensive planes, missiles and other military hardware.

With regard to China you seem to be economical with the truth.China owns 30% of US debt in addition to investing $ billions in quality assets in US,Africa,Australia-to name a few.

As to your assertion the Chinese are just manufacturing sandals and ipods for walmart, with annual exports of $1.5 trillion annually that must by quiet few sandals and ipods.Don't you think?

Dominating the USA? Ridiculous! Maybe find some facts. I found a recent study by PwC, a forecast/projection of the GDP for the year 2050. According to this study, the ranking will be as follows (Billion US$)

1 China 51.180
2 USA 37.876
3 India 31.313
4 Brasil 9.235
5 Japan 7.664
6 Russia 6.112

As we can see, China will be an impressive gainer, almost 1000%, and outpassing the USA in total, but the GdP per capita will still be only about 45% of a US citizen. Russia will gain, too, passing by Germany, but as we can see, it will be far, far away from the big 3, and even still behind Japan.

OP, 16 January 2011 13:57)

It is a shame that a country blessed with so much natural resources has a common living standard three times lower than Germany which has absolutely no resources at all...

the Clintons and the Bushes merely look at them in puzzlement and bewilderment, but they do not identify with them nor seek to defend them.
