Serbia advised to cut red tape

Serbia must facilitate "bureaucratic procedures" and create an environment favorable for business activities in order to attract foreign investments.

Wonderful, Ravna Gora.

So, you suggest that insurmountable red tape is somehow in the national interest?

Why not just forbid foreigners from coming at all? That way Serbs keep their little paradise pure.

Once there were many small stores on mainstreet. people worked at local companies and produced things. there was a sense of community-of pride. But the people were just fooling themselves, they didnt understand modern economics. they were simpletons. now all the stores on mainstreet are boarded up. people have moved away in search of work-a fruitless search for the most part. wages have fallen and thousands of poor latin americans stream in to do the menial duties. Unions are busted. the young join the military, its the only employer left. and at the edge of the ghost town stands the shining light of modern economics-a Wal Mart. the people dont have healthcare, thier government bails out the international corporations, the infrastructure crumbles. wake up simpletons you just dont understand foreign investment, wake up serbs and let the men in fancy suits in.

serbs must wake up and let foreign investment in, dont produce anything just sit there and play with your I-Phones and listen to american pop music-and if your really good, one day soon Wal Mart will open and you can buy cheap chinese goods-because thats all youll be able to afford-your children can move to germany(where they practice national economics) and work for the germans. leave your land behind, hand it over to the internationals-theyll know what to do with it. McDonalds is open but they dont serve weenies.

Danilo, all good points. Unfortunately, too many people in Serbia don't understand the concept of foreign investment period. Is it more patriotic to have a factory owned by a foreign investor who'll invest money into it and employ people in reasonable conditions for a decent salary, of hand it over to a local crook to make a quick profit (whuch is often then spirited abroad) at the expense of the workers and the country? There are still too many simpletons who'd say the latter.

I wish Serbia all the success in tackling this. It is such a problem. Would be funny if it weren't just sad. All this talk about foreign investment needing to come in and then impossible conditions locally.

Personally, I feel like Serbs generally don't understand the problem - the problem that must be fixed if anything good is to happen in Serbia.

"Investment" doesn't mean "handouts".

You can't say you want investment and then have a situation where it's impossible for foreign businessmen to operate in any meaningful way
