--All are overly spoiled with food and head scratches. And there are very few things in life that get me more upset than animal cruelty like what was done to Mila. So in the spirit of common agreement on lending a hand/paw for our four legged friends, let me tip my proverbial hat to you.

Funny you should say that -- I just picked up the kitty from her aunty's house, post vacation. her aunty (my beloved ex-boss) is that neighborhood's local cat-lady and has been in the business of saving/feeding (often) feral kitties for many years now. including mine. watching an extended family of cats is quite amazing... each personality is unique, and a few more than a little wacky. somehow my beebee fits right in, eventually. it's her respite home and our extended family.

but my great (animal) beloved was actually my dog, a mixed collie/ shepherd. incredibly beautiful and so very human if you know what i mean. any time i left her outside a store or restaurant, safely tethered, i'd inevitably find her surrounded by a crowd of admiring strangers. even at 14 she looked like a gorgeous puppy.

the irrepressible shirley mc clain was guest judge at a dog "beauty" contest here, back in the day (early 80s.) my dog was all done up, easily the people's favorite, but lost out to some yappy little mut only because those people had costumed as cleopatra and her slaves... shirley called my beebee "farah fawcet!" but i corrected that she was really elizabeth taylor, even w/ a matching beauty mark. don't get me started.

still not over that loss.

the whole saga w/ mila really tore me up, both the horror of the sadists (kids??) and how people came together as you can seldom find. i'd just say she's brought out the best in people, which is somehow miraculous.

Actually, i was thinking of calling for a x-mas truce over our x-mas time -- after all, they had them in ww1, in most wars that i am aware of. they may seem hypocritical and phony but who cares? i believe that even the 100 years war included pauses, if only because so many had died or fallen ill to the plague. so there was hardly any other option.

but i was so busy and tired traveling and just sent simple x-mas greetings which anyway "disappeared." go figure.

there exist so very many levels of hate here, anger and mistrust, i would say on both sides, if you break things down in that binary way. an utter lack of trust (often for good reason), ethnic slurs a dime a dozen, endless personal insults and mean spirited attacks, etc.

sometimes frnds will ask me: why would you continue to be part of such a forum (as in: are you totally nuts!?) and i'll say, but i was here first... it's the principle... hmm.

once or twice a few of us here discussed attempts at civility. but after that, ironically, it actually seemed that the atmosphere grew worse. i think that asking for civility is typically interpreted as some kind of weakness or vulnerability.

anyway, i'm sure we all hold our own theories. for those who even bother to analyze such things.

i still think the forum is an interesting one, but the human relations aspect (if you can even call it that) is extremely depressing and leads to a very bleak view of human nature, certainly fr my POV.

anyway, mike, i appreciate your responding to certain of my posts in a human way, and i want to acknowledge that. that's one positive. i realize you are suggesting more than meets the eye.

happy holidays. ciao!

"if there is a "silver lining" ( a trite phrase to be sure) it is that consciousness into animal abuse has been raised, and that people came together to help this sweet bb. and to show our support. even here. doesn't get more miraculous than that." (roberto)

-- As I've said before and have no problem repeating, this is one of those issues where you and I are completely on the same page. I'm a cat owner myself. Two little fuzzbutts inside and I take care of an adopted family outside that live in my basement window wells and makeshift box/homes (vaccinated and neutered). All are overly spoiled with food and head scratches. And there are very few things in life that get me more upset than animal cruelty like what was done to Mila. I'm so happy and relieved to hear that little Mila found a good home after her ordeal. Let's hope she enjoys many years of comfort :)

This is an incredible story, and Mila is indeed the miracle dog. god bless her,and all of the people that helped her out, that have rescued her.

if there is a "silver lining" ( a trite phrase to be sure) it is that consciousness into animal abuse has been raised, and that people came together to help this sweet bb. and to show our support. even here. doesn't get more miraculous than that.

thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, caregivers, and the new adopting family, and to all who have poured out their love and support.

Dusan Carnic, the belgrade veterinary Institution, the Rudo Institute, b-92 and the city of belgrade should be applauded for their decency and kind activism in the face of a disgusting cruelty against and innocent little creature.

I have five small chihuaua dogs and one just gave birth to a litter. One small female pup has just earned her new name "MILA"
