Revolting witches hex Romanian government

Superstition is a serious business in Romania, so serious the government decided to tax it in these austere times, and as part of a drive to slash tax evasion.

Man oh man, are eastern european tax codes strange and police-statish to this North American's perspective.

Why does the state need to know and register your profession?

Just tax everyone the same based on their income. Why all this extra bureaucracy and wasted time on categorizing people?

A little background for understanding a semi-ignorant article.
Recently fiscal legislation was enacted (somehow inspired from US) that money/equity over 50.000 lei (roughly 12 KEUR)which cannot be legally justified shall be taxed as any other income with a flat 16%.
So, "witches"/fortune tellers/horoscopers/psyhics/tarot and other cards readers/even some bioenergeticians are given a legal possibility to pay taxes for their revenues out of the above before the state comes and cashes in (theoretically at least).
Something wrong with that? It's everybody's right to practice what they want as long as they do not disturb others. I think "Withces" are pretty funny (the quoted woman's name "Bratara" means Bracelet in romanian).

@christians on duty, Leonidas and Lenard, Don't tell me that there is anybody around here that doesn't know their star sign or never heard about tarot!
The statement in the article that Romanian Orthodox church tolerates witchcraft is a pure stupid lie as the church deems blasphemeous and devlish such practices and even reading the horoscopes in your daily newspaper is considered a sin.
The only difference is that in Romania (although it is powerful)the church expresses a soft power and (unlike in some banana european republics) it minds it's own business outside state institutions. Don't forget that the National Church Assembly, the highest and broadest elective body (it elects the Patriarch) consists of 2/3 laymen and only 1/3 clergy.

I also wonder what the Romanian Orthodox Church is saying about this evil spiritualism.

(Leonidas, 7 January 2011 12:38) Nothing especially if they can get a some kind of cut. So they can have more gold crucifixes ,icons ,paintings ,statues etc that the people can bow down to and kiss. This is what God says about all that nonsense and the pagan worship of the idol worship clergy. Isa 40:18 To whom, then, will you compare God? What image will you compare him to? Isa 40:19 As for an idol, a craftsman casts it, and a goldsmith overlays it with gold and fashions silver chains for it. Isa 40:21 Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded? Isa 40:22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in. Isa 40:23 He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing. Isa 40:25 "To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One. Isiah was written 2700 years ago do you notice in Isa 40:22 He sits enthroned above the (circle of the earth, not like people thought for the longest time the earth was a square if you go to far you fall off the earth to your doom.

Leading politicians are often see wearing purple on important days to ward off the evil eye, and the brew of dead dog, cat excrement and mandrake the witches plan to chuck into the Danube today.

If Romania's leaders are supersticious imagine what ordinary Romanians will do to drive away evil.No wonder Romania has been under IMF supervision for sometime now.

Seriously, how can those politicians enforce the law as payments to witches and astrologers are usually made in cash and relatively small.

I also wonder what the Romanian Orthodox Church is saying about this evil spiritualism.
