Read NATO as US. The US has to reduce their forces because the US has 40 million people living off food stamps. (sj, 29 December 2010 06:13)

Hi, hi, hi... poor americans. Come on sj, open their eyes, show them the Siberian or the Chinese paradise where they should immigrate :)

You may want to try understanding English next time. He has explained it perfectly well. The army can be the army even if this word is not part of the name. The word FORCE is sufficient enough.
(Simpatiku, 1 January 2011 19:17)

I know what I have read, but there is a big difference between the term FORCE and an ARMY – try police force for example. You see if they were one and the same then you’re wonderful US would be the first to adopt this new Albanian philosophy.

Top,

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to prove. Even if your argument is correct it fails to prove how a lightly armed security force will never become an army.

The Ahtisaari Package which our constitution is based on envisioned a 2500 lightly armed Army which would grow after the supervision (departure of the ICO).

I see we are discussing just for the sake of typical serbian-albanian debate, wether Kosovo officially has an army or not is not important but if it is to you, then let it be, as if having an ''army'' or not proves anything, anyway... IDF does not have the ''army'' deffiniton neither, yet they managed to kick three neighbouring armies at once....if FSK are firefighters as you claim, how come they are training with automatic rifles (g36 btw, far more proffessional stuff than serbian army ak 74 replicas) ? I never witnessed firefighters extinguishing fire with rifles and machine guns....FASH (Albanian Armed Forces)for Rep o Albania ...I supose, this labeling thing is because in Albanian language, the direct translation for ''army'' is ''ushtria'', which probably comes from the verb ''ushtroj'' which means ''to excercise'' and most probably , that is why army experts in Albanian Ministry of defence felt the need to replace ''USH'' with ''FASH'' ...italians have similar menthality, they do not label their army as '' la armata italiana' but they say il eserco'' which means to train, to excercise, or sth, i can't spell italian properly, and i m not sure how offiially italians identify their army, just an example...considering Albanian menthality, ''forca'' has a stronger meaning as it means ''strong'' and ''power'', personally i find the word deffinition ''force'' as more adequate and gives a more proffesional impression to both our armies, especially after recet upgrades to meet NATO standarts...

Wrong! Simply read the text! NO army. Security forces, for help during disasters, wildfires, earthquakes and similar things. Kind of a light version of the National guard in the USA.

''"The Kosovo Security Force (KSF) is a new, professional, multi-ethnic, lightly armed and uniformed Security Force that is subject to democratic, civilian control. The mission of the KSF is to conduct crisis response operations in Kosovo and abroad; civil protection operations within Kosovo; and to assist the civil authorities in responding to natural disasters and other emergencies. Indeed, a light armed army ... which means they won't be having tanks and war planes, as long as KSF is not planing an agression against neighbouring countries, why waste effort in building a war machine...Albania on the other hand is building brand new war ships, upgrading the air force, opening new facilities, this year the first generation of kadets from Kosovo will graduate in the Army Academy of Tirana if i m not mistaken...

Thanks for the link, I don't know if it's good that Kosovo expanding the state sector even more, all on donor money. But where's the "Kosovo Army"? I checked your link, I only saw the KSF- Kosovo Security force. How come?

Wow, "Kosova" actually has the money to pay the wages of these future recruits .... or does it expect taxpayers in the West to subsidize that too? .... Or maybe it will pay 3rd world wages to these recruits ..... or maybe dip into Thaci's piggy bank -- he probably has accumulated lots of dough by now if Marty is correct ....

Great, this does mean that the EU / NATO is happy with the progress Kosova has made untill now.

There is more stability / peace now.

The only part of Kosova with no law is the north of Mitrovica held by the Serbs (bandits, outlaw, smugglars, ...).

But also here this will end when the US is coming to stationized up in the north.

For the Albanians I would not take too much comfort from this as some seem to predict that “Kosova Police or army will take their place”. No that is not going to happen.
Look at what happened in Prizren for the enthronement – MUP was there. Don’t say you were not told.

The reduction of KFOR troops is directly correlated with the improved security in Kosovo (hint: independence).

I won't go as far as saying that the Kosovo Army's recruit will increase hand-in-hand; if that is the case, we won't see such a thing until 1 Jan, 2012.

On an unrelated but slightly important note, the Kosovo Army has about 30 open positions for recruitment. If you wish to apply please visit
