The US cannot change its mind on Kosovo - it is fully entrenched. However, it should be pressured for that mistake. It will stand by Thaci as long as it can, but it will dump him as soon as necessary.

While we are on the subject of war crimes - has the US answered about the Iraq fiasco? Should George Bush be tried given that it is now seems clear that he and Blair went into Iraq knowing that there were no weapons of mass destruction? History has shown that their emphasis was certainly wrong and it was quite likely a politically motivated deceit - a war crime. How embarrassing for the US...…. and look how easily it has been covered over and quietly ignored as an issue.

The concept of heads of state going to court was well illustrated by Milosevic (and I am sure that he did deserve to face his accusers). That establishes that the idea is fully workable. Milosevic provides an example that should be followed more often!

The US shields itself from international law, while imposing it on others. You will not get Bush into court even if there is case that should be answered. However, the level of protection that Thaci will get is much lower. The US would throw him to the wolves if it suited them. This statement about Kosovo is a reiteration of their intransigence over the status of Kosovo, but it is also the beginnings of them distancing themselves from Thaci. That said, if they do throw him to the wolves it will be an incredibly great embarrassment for them.

However, the US should not be allowed to shield those of its citizens who knew that these organ murders were taking place. They must open up evidence. I understand that there are US citizens who warned Albanians to stop the murders - a reasonable order to give. However, if those same US citizens were complicit in hiding those crimes and protecting the murders, they should receive no protection from their US status. They should face court.

The main conclusion I have drawn is (unfortunately) that the US should never be trusted when they talk of 'humanitarian intervention'. The reality in Kosovo is that the US is preserving the results of an invasion and a victory over Serbia. The US took sides because of an (understandable) dislike of Milosevic, but chose not to take account of the fact that Albanians had been ethnically cleansing Serbs long before Milosevic.

We can now add the thought that the US knowingly gave protection people who were guilty of a terrible humanitarian crime - murder for body parts. Disgusting. It would be nice to at least hear an admission from the US that they did have to pinch their noses in order to pursue their Kosovo policy.

Not so - Albania played an important role in the movie "Primary Colors" (where we all learned the expression "the tail wagging the dog"). I don't remember who was attacking whom there, but it was definitely in Albania.

And if Marty's immunity to prosecution in Europe is a problem, Thaci can sue him in an American court. Marty, perhaps unwisely, was pretty derogatory about the US involvement in the area - there's probably some way Thaci could spin it. After all, aren't European judges always trying to go after foreigners they don't approve of?

Four presidents were members of the United States Whig Party.

Four presidents were members of the United States Democratic-Republican Party

John Adams (1797-1801) was the only president elected as a member of the United States Federalist Party.

George Washington (1789-1797) is currently the only president to have been elected without any official endorsement by a political party.

John Tyler and Andrew Johnson were effectively independent for part of their terms but since they were also members of the Whig and Democratic Party, respectively, for parts of their term they are traditionally counted as members of that party.

-- That's quite possibly the stupidest thing I've heard a State Department mouthpiece say about Kosovo to date. Clearly they are banking on popular ignorance and indifference to an area no one knows about or cares to know about. A modern, democratic, and multiethnic society in Kosovo is a long long long way away. Chiefly because US strategies are to keep Kosovo poor, divided, and entirely dependent on outside powers through an unbelievably compliant regime in Pristina. Crime Minister Hash is a perfect example of someone who takes his marching orders from Washington in exchange for power and protection. Serbs, Albanians, and anyone else with even the slightest desire to pay attention know that.

@ Daniel,

I live in USA and most Americans know little or nothing about Albania.

To know how much USA cares about Albania you should know the history of Albania.
However to us Albanians the USA has a special place in our history.

Albania's borders were established by the Great Powers in 1913.
Albania's territorial integrity was confirmed at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919.
There where no Albanian Delegations attending or trying to defend the borders on both conferences.

In 1919 it was U.S. President Woodrow Wilson who dismissed the plan by the European powers to divide Albania amongst its neighbors.

Today the same powers including USA gave Kosovo Independence.
I guess as small countries we are we don’t have much to say when it comes to borders ;)

Respect,

He stated that the U.S. and the people and government in Pristina share the same goal-a Kosovo that represents a modern, democratic, and multiethnic society and is part of the European family of nations.

Let's be honest here and truly see through all the "smoke and mirrors". The US's involvement doesn't have a thing to do with bringing multi-ethnic democracy or a better life to the K-Albs. The US actions are ALWAYS to secure Camp Bondsteel...and to walk hand-in-hand with Germany to denigrate Serbia, both overtly and covertly. I believe nothing, nor any "promises" that the US gives to the Serbs regarding their desire for peace and stability within the Balkans. Now the US wants "proof" of the Organ-Gate case against Thaci and his Dreznica clan of criminals....yet the Hague, when presented with tangible evidence, destroyed the evidence. At every turn, the Serbs are the guilty party.....and yet when an extremely reputable person like Dick Marty does the best job he could (under terrible circumstances) to conduct a thorough investigation, Serbs are still told that "nothing will change". So why is the US "stonewalling" everything against the Serbian people??? Could it be because of Camp Bondsteel???

Pristina and Washington have been involved in a joint criminal enterprise for some time now. Why should these revelations change that? They will need to work together to cover up (as much as possible) the crimes they committed.

Pete

Both parties are so intricately tied to one another that obviously their mutual relations must remain the same. The US has chosen the Albanians as the champions of their strategic policy in the Balkans because they are pliant, aggressive, without moral scruple, single minded, and utterly obedient to American aims. The US chose to support the various guerilla movements around the world for the very same reasons. Then of course construct a sprawling military complex free of charge once you've stolen the land from its rightful owners. This process began with the annihilation of the native peoples of America and the construction of forts. Only the forts are now a global concept. A show of American strength. Nothing has changed in US thinking.

And they will start at the source, where it is most needed, and that is.... Kosovo :)

"He [Murphy] stated that the U.S. and the people and government in Pristina share the same goal-a Kosovo that represents a modern, democratic, and multiethnic society and is part of the European family of nations."

Respect,
ALBMCSE

Since 1776, how many parties have won office in the US that did not have the named of Democrat or Republican? If you had one or two then you have a democracy if not then it’s called ???????Hmm what???

Yes, yes PRN and the forces of goodness will prevail. The alarm clock is sounding and its time wake up from that dream.

It’s more like one villain cooperating with another.

But then why break away from Serbia?
(Ron, 22 December 2010 17:01)

Belgium had less reasons to break away from the Netherlands, didn't it? Or have I missed some full-scaled war (apart the skirmishes of 1830?)?

Now, of course I 'd wished Serbia to have behaved like the Netherlands did after that... wishful thinking so far

Here you go sj. Political Parties of the US Presidents.

When asked about Albania, he thought the host was talking about Albinos. That's how much Americans care about Albania.

Since the movie "Taken" I think many more Americans will know about Albanians.
Problem is that it is all going to be bad.

"PRN, in your head you believe that Americans love Albanians. I ask you to go to middle America and ask someone to point out Albania on a map or to even tell you what an Albanian is and you will see how much the US really cares about Albania. I'll never forget an interview on TV when Jim Belushi and Elisa Dushku (spelling?) were on set and this American singer came on board. When asked about Albania, he thought the host was talking about Albinos. That's how much Americans care about Albania.
(Daniel, 22 December 2010 12:17) "

Not so - Albania played an important role in the movie "Primary Colors" (where we all learned the expression "the tail wagging the dog"). I don't remember who was attacking whom there, but it was definitely in Albania.

And if Marty's immunity to prosecution in Europe is a problem, Thaci can sue him in an American court. Marty, perhaps unwisely, was pretty derogatory about the US involvement in the area - there's probably some way Thaci could spin it. After all, aren't European judges always trying to go after foreigners they don't approve of?
