This story can become a nice movie. Just imagine; In the "villa" of Kartuci family, in the middle of nowhere, in 1999, in an area where even today they have electricity only 12 hours a day, where they get water with animals because probably there is no water supply network; the organ trafficing organisation has erected an organ removal hospital, supplied with electricity by organic deposition. The owners of the house recieve a lot of money from the traficants, but anyway they prefer not to move somewhere else, they just put the money in the ground and continue to live in the same room with the pigs, just to make people believe they are poor.

Congratulations Mr. Dick, now you have the scenario, you already got the money in advance payment, make it a bestseller.

To all the Truth-Huggers (or pretending ones).
Since all of us know quite well that it is simply impossible to carry out the organ harvesting in Albanian conditions wouldn't it be wiser to talk sense and say it just didn't happen. Period. To go on and spend time in wishful thinking or how worthy it would be for one side if things went like this...and how interesting would be (always for one side) if deciding or simple people believe this (technically) nonsense is not really intelligent also. Up to you guys, up to you neighbors.

"Police were alerted to the network in November 2008, when a Turkish man, Yilmaz Altun, appeared exhausted at Pristina airport while waiting to board a flight home. When questioned by police, he said he had donated his kidney to an Israeli recipient. Kosovo law forbids the removal and transplant of organs.

Altun was arrested and identified Sonmez and Harel from photos, according to the indictment.

On searching the doctors' clinic, police found an Israeli citizen in postoperative care, and a human kidney. They seized medical and business records, computer files and medications."

Criminals involved in illegal organ trafficking make sure to fill out all the documentation properly? How considerate of them. Now, if they'd only get their income-tax forms in on time ...
(Amer, 21 December 2010 19:10)

Funny guy (not), if you researched how many legislitive loopholes in organ trafficking there were, in many European countries at the time of these events, you would conclude there was no need for "bribing" or "smuggling past" customs any urgent organ deliveries. A draft resolution was only adopted in 2003, introducing more concrete legislation against organ trafficking. Co-operative efforts would include shipments or consignment paperwork of aircraft landing from Tirana to be thoroughly sifted including type, size and if the point of intended delivery was to any medical facilities and labelled urgent or medical. One thing about Europeans they love their paperwork.

To all the Albanians complaining about the report, I just can't see why Marty or Del Ponte would lie. Del Ponte was prosecutor for the Hague and you can hardly say she went easy on the Serbs, and the Swiss have hardly ever been friends with the Serbs. In fact the party Marty was in was part of the government that recognised Kosovo.
(Sam, UK, 21 December 2010)

You make a good point Sam.
To me there are only two plausible explanations:
1. Thaci is indeed implicated
2. They're trying to strongarm Thaci into making some sort of concessions to Serbia, which is apparent from Tadic not refusing to have a dialogue with Thaci even though Thaci was allegedely implicated in an horrendous act and did not even win an outright majority to form a government in Prishtina.

My gut tells me it's the second one because these allegations were made by Carla Del Ponte and never mentioned Thaci.

Yes, its a political battle. Yes, Serbia is using this as part of its ammunition to get the upper hand with regard to Kosovo. But that does not make the allegations of organ translplants and organised crime untrue.

Most balanced people with any knowledge of the Balkans will understand this.
(bganon, 21 December 2010)

But it doesn't make it true either. As a matter of fact allegations are not considered true until they're proven to be true. Or am I wrong in that assumption? Because it seems that you Serbs have made up your minds that they are true.

However, if I'm not mistaken, an allegation of a mass grave discovered in Serbia proper thought to have the remains for 250 Albanians only a few months ago was swiftly swept under the rug and we never heard from it again.

Why? Because nobody cares anymore if there are Albanian in mass graves. Kosova got its independence so they are closing an eye when it comes to matters likes this. They're tired of pushing Serbia for over a decade without any results.

bganon

pre 13 godina

How monstrous it would be if we were to find out that these organ transplant allegations were true and that our western 'friends' who believe in human rights called the victims liars.

What I can't believe is the line that this Council of Europe report is being attacked by a minority of western human rights 'supporters' as some kind of Serb plot. Happily, more reputable human rightists and organisations such as Amnesty International have mentioned such allegations before and are at the very least adopting a 'wait and see' line.

Yes, its a political battle. Yes, Serbia is using this as part of its ammunition to get the upper hand with regard to Kosovo. But that does not make the allegations of organ translplants and organised crime untrue.

"Diplomatic offensive in organ case". Goes to show Serbia is not interested in Justice, but in scoring political points.
What country in the world freely admits that they will try to score political points out of a possible crime? That means the investigation was done in such a way as to produce the needed results. This strategy is well known in the western circles and it doesn't fly.

I would be happy to see anyone involved in such a crime be sent to the slammer for the rest of his life, but let's not kid ourselves- there is not a single shred of evidence to support the claim that organ extraction was done at this house or let alone Thaci was involved in it. This must be one of the most investigated case in the whole of Balkans without a single shred of forensic evidence [ a.k.a bodies on the freezer trucks dumped in the river] which lends credence to the theory that it's done for political purposes.

Serbia, enjoy your political limelight for the next few weeks, but when you are done with that, give it a shot and see if you can find some of the 1500 Albanians who are still missing from the war.I know that's not going to help you score political points, but it might, just might help justice prevail for the families of these people. Extraction of Organs used in transplants can be performed in mobile vans, basic field hospitals or small slightly converted houses so long as they are completely anesthetised. The Yellow house is alleged, by former KLA witness reports a “way point” where victims where categorised according to blood types and feasibility of their organs for use.

The victims organs would have been most likely been removed close to transportation as excerpts of Marty’s report below describe,

Medicus Clinic,

165. As and when the transplant surgeons were confirmed to be in position and ready to operate, the captives were brought out of the “safe house” individually, summarily executed by a KLA gunman, and their corpses transported swiftly to the operating clinic.

167. Sources stated that the Fushë-Krujë axis was chosen to host these facilities because of its proximity to the main airport servicing Tirana. The facilities at the hub of this organ-trafficking ring – the “safe house” and the operating clinic – therefore offered accessibility for incoming international visitors and outgoing shipments alike.

So we ask where could the transplants have occurred?
Any heart transplant could be conducted within a 3 hour flight radius from Tirana airport, 6 hours for Lungs and so on. Through co-operative international efforts, spikes in organ donations coming from Tirana airport could lead to further corroborating evidence. Dick Marty has followed up his successful report into secret CIA prison camps with yet another report into the ethical conduct we as a world were blind to see or preferred to look away. These events described will not be tolerated or allowed to go un-investigated whether the suspects be considered friend or foe.

Ideal times for organs transported below;
Heart 3-4 Hours.
Lungs 6 Hours.
Liver/Pancreas 8 Hours
Small bowel 12 Hours
Kidneys 36-48 Hours

'Meanwhile, Dick Marty is traveling to Moscow today, where he will present his report to Russian officials'.

It looks like this is orchestrated by moscou, in close cooperation with serbia. this is a new tactic after failing at the ICJ and the UN. It seems a blow for kosovo for the moment.

But there are many actors involved in this story and the truth will surface sooner or later.

It is obvious that the duo del ponte- marty has a clear objective : discredit both albania and kosovo. I have read both countries newspaper and my impression is that there is an unanimous condamnation of this report. In addition, the reaction from eulex is that they have made inquiries in the past and didn't find any real proof for the allegations made by del ponte/marty.

We will see. But there is no smoking gun in marty's reports, only doubts. This is not enough to prosecute thaci and the kla.
I was a little disappointed that del ponte and marty never mention the kosovars that were murdered and never found

Interesting how serbia allowed not a peep or whisper to be made even by themselves on this PROPAGANDA until de ponte's book wich simply regurgitated the same PROPAGANDA giving it a veneer of legitamcy.

It doesnt work. It doesnt work. It doesnt work.

when will serbia and serbs realize that propaganda has not done one single thing for them in the last few decades.

serbias propaganda offensive makes for headlines that serb apologists meet with apparent glee... but what are you going to do when YET AGAIN nothing comes from it?

what then?

Even worse for serbia... and yes serb apologists are utterly blind to it, they have the finger pointed at Thaci personally... that its based on fiction, when no evidence exists in the first place, how then will they make anything stick to thaci?

serbia is going to shriek and cackle in the interim, much like the lead up to the icj. but what will you be left with at the end?

propaganda doesnt work.

Were the organs transplanted in the yellow house, I thought they were just harvested there? Please clarify.
(bader, 20 December 2010 12:49) "

In Marty's report, the Yellow House is not suspected of being the site of either organ removal or transplantation. http://assembly.coe.int/ASP/APFeaturesManager/defaultArtSiteView.asp?ID=964 The Serbian physician who said it would have been impossible to carry out organ transplants there was apparently right. Marty claims that the organs were harvested (= removed from dead bodies) at a house in Fushë-Krujë, at what he describes as both a "a state-of-the-art reception centre for the organised crime of organ trafficking" as well as a "makeshift operating clinic."

That the KLA had informal medical facilities set up in Kosovo doesn't seem in the least surprising - KLA fighters could hardly go to hospitals in Kosovo, and Albania was desperate not to be seen as being involved in the fighting by providing hospital care, since it was in no shape to respond if Serbia declared war on it.

Yes, you are so right, dear posters of Albanian nationality!!!

Yes, Dick Marty went to Moscow for his new check $$$$$£££££€€€€€ and new instructions, of course.
Yes, this all came out from Belgrade’s and Moscow’s kitchen. Who are the best chefs after all :))?
And, what now? The truth is that you can’t do anything any more now. You can cry a river and you still can’t change anything about it if somebody decided (you know who and where) that the crimes against the Serbs have been committed too.

And you know why? Because, dear Albanians, someone has decided to change the course in regard to Kosovo. Perhaps Europe is getting tired of you? Can be anything, really anything…

The real question for all of you should be as to why all of a sudden such a change in the course towards Kosovo?
Don’t you realise that media worldwide are writing negative stories about Kosovo, Thachi, OVK, etc..
It has happened something that was unthinkable until just a few days ago. A, world media actually report on crimes committed against the Serbs? Truly, looks unbelievable what I read these days.
Do you think that this story is going to be forgotten in a few days from now? I doubt! This is just the beginning.
There will be much more to learn and I am looking forward to it. The journalist finally got permission to write about the things as they are and I suspect that the digging of a dirty laundry will continue for some time. It looks like you Albanians and your beloved criminal leader Thachi just do not serve a purpose any longer and do not fit in a new agenda of “Western power-holders“.
You will have no support any longer as you used to have. What is all about, remains to be seen. Just patience, please. I am first very curious to know why suddenly there might be even some justice for the Serbs too? You will all agree that crimes committed against the Serbs were always taboo in the world and the that truth about the Serbian victims was swept and kept under the carpet.

Nevertheless, I am sure that our dear Albanians already know all this and that is why they are sweating to much while writing so unbalanced comments, some comments appear to have been written on the brink of insanity.

Anyway, I am always very amused while reading comments written by the Albanians.

Curious as to reaction to the following statement in Marty's report is accepted as "truth" by the Serb posters here?
"These crimes claimed tens of thousands of victims and disrupted a whole region of our continent. In
the Kosovo conflict, the ethnic Albanian population suffered horrendous violence as the result of an insane
ethnic cleansing policy on the part of the dictator then in power in Belgrade. None of these historical events
could be cast in doubt today."

(bader, 20 December 2010 12:49)
It is an evolving story. Each time someone points out that it is impossible, the story is changed some in order to make it more credible.
Originally, they were transplanted there, even one published story was that 175 people were brought there at the same time as 175 prisoners but that myth fail big time as the worlds number one transplant centers only do 175 transplants in a year and no major facility could come close to handling that number at the same time, but the Albanians were able to do it in a farmhouse in just a matter of days.
I think the proof so far details that Serbs hate Albanians and Albanians hate Serbs.
It will be interesting to see what the debate on the report brings about in January. I think most politicians at the EC will understand speculation without any evidence may be a pot they do not wish to stir.

This is according to Labor Minister and Hague Cooperation Council head Rasim Ljajić, who spoke for B92 in Belgrade late on Sunday. Serbia will "enter a diplomatic offensive in all international forums in order to bring this case to its conclusion," said he."--

And here all this time i thought that
ljajic had resigned, as his beloved regime continues to harbor mass murderer mladic. didn't he promise?

once again i will repeat what i've written in the past, at least 2 years ago: all serious war crime allegations need to be investigated. period. a position i have always held. i don't give a sh-t about the ethnicity of the victim (or the ethnicity of anyone else, for that matter.)

WHO is investigating, that's another story. both del ponte and marty lack credibility, lack objectivity, to say the least. adding inspectors from "russia and china" doesn't exactly add the magic touch.

But what their media is doing with this, how it is turning marty's report into a kind of satanic orgy of hate aainst all things kosova, that is a whole other story.

the atmosphere around this site has become toxic. the news stories are more govt-line than ever; the censorship (ag. dissidents)worse than ever; the racist and personal attacks (always facilitated) esp.ly ag. albanians and dissidents, more outrageous than ever. and that's saying a lot.

2 years ago, just before our elections here(nov 2008)came an earlier version of this recent nasty wave. anyone else remember? "I'd rather have an albo eat my kidneys with an expensive bottle of red wine than vote for any of those..." i'm paraphrasing, but you all catch my drift. don't believe me? check the archives, appr. one month before our elections...

now we are seeing a repeat of that atmosphere: the same ugly racist attacks, and vicious personal attacks on us. yesterday i saw a very "pleasant" one directed to me: "break a leg -- no, break two!" anyone else catch that charming suggestion? of course the net brings out the anonymous low-lives (we read them here every day) but that they are FACILITATED while we are censored, while the belgrade dissident intellectuals are completely marginalized here, that is something deeply troubling.

as for the personal attack ag. myself, the "implied" physical threat, all i can say is "chvala mnoga" b-92!

the issue of their media is really across the board. my pal, who is a "graduate" of omarska (one of the worst of scores of serb-run concentration camps/killing centers in bosnia), has special bosnian cable channels in far-away california. often he watches the channel from biljena (sp?), assuring me is wasn't the "worst" of the RS venues.

Wrong! yesterday he explained that after 3 straight days of their unbearable agit-prop ag. kosova (organ-stealing! organ stealing! organ stealing!, all in serbo-croatian of course) he could bear it no longer. and he himself is not especially sympathetic to Kosova. but enough is enough. of all people in this world, he knows what they are capable of.
and oh, he has a very sympathetic, "normal" serbian brother-in-law, who helped them during the war (in any way he could which was not much.)

this media campaign is nothing less than a desperate act on the part of the nationlists (and their allies) to use the ugliest rumors and innuendos to put a dagger back into kosova. it has NOTHING to do with truth and justice. if it did, the blgd regime on down would have long sent mass murderer mladic to the hague, would have long opened up the (additional)mass graves on their territory, would have long ago come truthful about the mass burnings at trepca and mackatica.

so, to paraphrase the always articulate Kate, some of you really need to look into the mirror, to see what is happening.

Cheers to my frnds and colleagues in kosova, and throughout the world; who gives a damn about their ethnicity! the truth really will set us free.

thank you.

@Velja. My comment had to do exclusively with the organ harvesting issue. I try to be as simply as it can be. Is it technically possible? Ask your lowest level nurse (in Serbia there are brilliant doctors also but no need to bother them). The problem is that if it is impossible to happen in "rustic conditions" we're losing precious time to build the future bridge into the wellbeing of our region. And all of us are here to stay. I'm not saying "let's become friends". But let's become business partner, let's exchange what we know for what we need. "We Can". What's important is that in Serbia there are brilliant politicians and intellectuals also. Let's see the future.

Amer

pre 13 godina

One reason why I'm sceptical of this report is that we saw something similar happen here in America not so long ago. After Clinton's 1st presidential election win, Republicans began sporting badges saying "Impeach Clinton!" (because there were 3 candidates, it was claimed that he hadn't really "won" the election, because the total of the other 2 was more than his percentage of the vote. But I digress.)

Anyway, the Republicans decided to investigate a land-deal in Arkansas where many people (including, as it turned out, Clinton) had lost money and the previous government had had to bail out the bank involved. The Special Prosecutor came up with a series of charges claiming evil-doing on the part of the Clintons, and wasted a couple of years on increasingly bizarre claims. (The Wall St. Journal's editorial page was nearly hysterical over the idea that the Clintons had killed, or had had killed, one of their friends who had recently committed suicide.) Eventually the investigators learned of a fling Clinton had had (he'd already come to his senses and broken it off), and we ended up with the farcical attempt to impeach him. Eventually the public came to its senses and, except for certain Republicans and the Serbs, realized it had all been much to-do about nothing.

The charges being made against Thaci are more spectacular than the Whitewater claims, and it looks like they're going to be persued with even greater enthusiasm, but in no way would I rule out Thaci's chances of surviving an investigation.

Guys, Kosovo policy and your nationalism have pulled the wool over your eyes. You are misinformed . Here is something substantiating that Euleks reported after launching an investigation about the notorious Kla and its leaders. A former commander of KLA Nazim Blace made a public confession that he had committed a lot of murders obeying orders issued by Thaci. The orders were stated to be conveyed by Thaci’s man Azim Sulja whose nick name is Big Uncle.By the way, the KLA was regarded by the US as a terrorist group until 1998 when it was (politically) de-listed . Its members entered other armed groups such as various Albanian Macedonian rebels which committed atrocious crimes.

The task of a process is the reconstruction of the crime dynamics (Motive, Means, Occasion). Let's invite Mr Dick Marty to virtually reconstruct the alleged crime in the presence of freshly graduated nurses (no need for specialist doctors) and show how the cause-effect nexus happened. If he can show it virtually then further search is a must. If this nexus gets broken (it's technically impossible to transplant human organs in rustic conditions) Mr Dick Marty has to (at least morally) respond to public for only on thing: his Motives. Do you have proof of Dick Marty being payed by Serbia or Russia for writing the accusations against Thaci? Do you?

In case you do, please call EULEX Kosovo Headquarters,

Cheers to my frnds and colleagues in kosova, and throughout the world; who gives a damn about their ethnicity! the truth really will set us free.

thank you.

That the KLA had informal medical facilities set up in Kosovo doesn't seem in the least surprising - KLA fighters could hardly go to hospitals in Kosovo, and Albania was desperate not to be seen as being involved in the fighting by providing hospital care, since it was in no shape to respond if Serbia declared war on it.

gjon cima

pre 13 godina

"We Can".

To all the Albanians complaining about the report, I just can't see why Marty or Del Ponte would lie. Del Ponte was prosecutor for the Hague and you can hardly say she went easy on the Serbs, and the Swiss have hardly ever been friends with the Serbs. In fact the party Marty was in was part of the government that recognised Kosovo.

Zoti

Ideal times for organs transported below;
Heart 3-4 Hours.
Lungs 6 Hours.
Liver/Pancreas 8 Hours
Small bowel 12 Hours
Kidneys 36-48 Hours

Most balanced people with any knowledge of the Balkans will understand this.

Amer

pre 13 godina

Altun was arrested and identified Sonmez and Harel from photos, according to the indictment.

You will ALMOST achieve to lie the world.Funny Serbs...

I know that you would like this to be true, BUT...unfortunately of fortunately there can be NO EVIDENCE on something that NEVER OCCURRED. UNMIK, EULEX, USA , EU, Albania all did their investigation and found NOTHING. Tadic also ordered some Serbian spies that were caught by Kosovo intelligence to buy people on saying that they are witness...

Nevertheless let the Serbs do something and justify the money they put on Dick's Swiss accounts, so the world sees some rare smiles in their face, hoping to make dream/lie come true.

Mind you this could become reality ONLY in Disney Land.

The rest is known: Occasion=he's a Parlamentarian, Means= Media.

Cheers to my frnds and colleagues in kosova, and throughout the world; who gives a damn about their ethnicity! the truth really will set us free.

thank you.

(because there were 3 candidates, it was claimed that he hadn't really "won" the election, because the total of the other 2 was more than his percentage of the vote.

Balkan update. 10000 civilians killed during kosovo war of which nearly a half were Serbs, Roma, turks but with less than 15% of the population. Fact. You work it out if you can.

Ideal times for organs transported below;
Heart 3-4 Hours.
Lungs 6 Hours.
Liver/Pancreas 8 Hours
Small bowel 12 Hours
Kidneys 36-48 Hours

These are real people with real names, real birthdays
and actual faces, not some phantom creatures once seen living in colored houses.

Criminals involved in illegal organ trafficking make sure to fill out all the documentation properly? How considerate of them. Now, if they'd only get their income-tax forms in on time ...
