Kragujevac: First Fiat test car in late 2011

Reconstruction of the Fiat factory in Kragujevac will be completed in the first half of 2011, Fiat automobili Srbija Director Giovanni de Filippis said Sunday.

"seven-seater, would come off the line by the end of 2011, while serial production would start in 2012."

Yummy, seven-seaters are my weakness, collecting them. Fiat is now Chrysler and Chrysler is Fiat, hope they pull out somewhat out of Detroit and Kragujevac, what is better than before. Sadly here it will be probably a scaled-down car compared what will be offered on the other side of Atlantic. This is what they do:

- use a weaker body because the crash test is not that strict as in America
- use a weaker engine. Body is missing some weight (re-enforcement mandatory in the States) and the smog test in Europe is not as strict as in the States. So a 2.0 liter engine will substitute the 3.5 liter engine
- automatic transmission, A/C, electric doors/mirrors = all expensive luxuries. In the States even the most basic cars have them.

Ouch... Don't like the car market in Europe.
