Turnout and results unclear in Serb areas

After the polls closed in the <a href="http://www.b92.net/eng/news/politics-article.php?yyyy=2010&mm=12&dd=12&nav_id=71462" class="text-link" target= "_blank">Kosovo elections</a> this Sunday, it is still unknown how many Serbs voted, or which parties they supported.

With rampant unemployment, endemic corruption and institutional dysfunctionality throughout Kosovo with people looking for the nearest one-way ticket out, Serb participation has more to do with Belgrade's lack of support and investment than any realization that Pristina is the wave of the future. My friends in Gracanica that I Skyped with yesyerday (KEK can't kill the internet) are equal-opportunity pessimists: Pristina officials are corrupt and self-serving; Belgrade officials are inept and self-serving. The decision to vote is taking matters into their own hands. If any of them decided to vote, and I won’t be surprised at high turnouts in some areas (SLS supporters were reported to have given 50 euros to every Serb that would vote for them), I'm afraid to say it has little if anything to do with them suddenly realizing they're "Kosovars".

On a positive note, Rada Trajkovic’s United Serbian List coalition seems to be looking for some practical middle ground between the f-you attitude of Belgrade and Mitrovica and the multi-culti BS from Pristina and EULEX.

ah Ivanović ... craven liar, supporter of extremist,a man living with an imaginary title knows nothing of kosovo outside the four walls of his office where he spews out fiction.

the one thing that is clear is serb extremists had to take active measures AGAINST their fellow serbs And Still Failed.

Adam, the turnout right accross the board was abysmal. There is already allegations of iiregularity in the polls with the main opposition parties accusing Thaci's party of fraud that could threathen the political stability of the province. I mean in 2 towns, he got 94% of the vote with reports of irregularities. That's North Korea stuff.

The turnout from the Serbs areas was even worse with only 2 main parties participating and a turnout just north of 10%. Overall it's a pretty damning indictment on Kosovo's 'democracy'.

When all is said and done the legacy from this latest farce will be a deeply polarised and divided Kosovo with the same problems of corruption, croneyism, mass unemployment, crime and a sick economy surviving on foreign handouts.

Ivanović told Beta that of "140,000 Serbs eligible to vote, some 15,000 did so", but south of the Ibar.

I am glad that is coming from Serbs themselv about the number of K-Serbs in Kosova. If there are 140,000 eligible voters + all those under 18 years old. And the number is right, who is talking about returnees again?

That is just over a 10% turnout. How will the Snake spin this one?

More he can't do. Few more years and he will probably blown away by Vetevendosje in the south, Seselj-followers in the north. He can blow a vuvuzela.
