Speaking of failed diplomacy, Richard Holbrooke is in the hospital in critical condition. I detest him as a diplomat, but I wish him a full and rapid recovery.

I am sure that most of us Serbs share your sentiment,Winston--I know that I do.
Fascinating childhood and career.

The US State Department just loves changing borders, and meddling in the affairs of other nations, for their own benefit I might add. There will never be peace in the middle east. Israel is fighting for existence, and the Palestinians are fighting for what was once theirs, but are militarily too weak to regain it. Thus the endless conflict. America's sticking their nose in others' conflicts, they refer to it as brokering, has been going on for how long now? And DC is still greasing palms in Jerusalem, with American taxpayer money they cannot afford. It is an endless dance of failed diplomacy.

"Using plain language and a sometimes stern tone, she (Clinton) said America was "serious about peace" and would be "persistent" in its search for a solution. - B92
What she was thinking was, "America is serious about peace, or we'd love to bomb the hell out of you, like we have in numerous places around the world, since we can".

She vowed to promote indirect talks on "core issues" including borders, settlements, refugees and Jerusalem.

Clinton is again trying to save face. She knows pretty well that there won't be any peace deal struck with thw Palestinians.

The state of Israel has been waging war not only on the Palestinian people and on their right to return, but also on their history and memory. Israeli authorities are erasing all traces of the Palestinian way of life that flourished before 1948.

The accepted version of events is that Jewish settlers escaped persecution in Europe and came to a barren land which they cultivated, build their homes and cities. The fact that the land was not barren, and that there was a thriving Palestinian culture which they destroyed is never mentioned.

"Last month the Obama administration offered Israel a sizeable package of incentives, including jet fighters and security guarantees, in return for a 90-day extension of a previous moratorium on settlement-building. "

Wow! The Yankees had to bribe the Israelis with jet fighters and what else just to get them to consent to stop building illegally on other people's lands. Talk about Yankee impotence!
