Did you check the latest list of installations the US considers important made public by Assange? It is like telling everybody "here is what would harm the US if it was hit". Nothing to do with the protection of democracy as he claims. Many of those installations and companies are located in Europe. Did you check if you or any of your friends and family live close to one of those installations? Who knows, you might be surprised by your own blindness.

BALKANS: SERBS CAN'T WIN IN BOTH KOSOVO AND THE EU
--------------------------------------------- -----

¶10. (C/NF) Galharague asked that the USG work together with
the EU to discourage the Serbians from proposing a new U.N.
resolution on Kosovo, stating that Serbian Foreign Minister
Jeremic "seems to believe Serbia can win on Kosovo and win EU
entry. We need to let him know this is not true." Right
now, Galharague reported, "the Serbs are furious with us (the
French)" in response to the demarche the GOF delivered in
Belgrade in early February (reftel) about Serbia's possible
plans for a U.N. resolution. "We delivered the message in
very forceful terms." In fact, the Serbs interpreted the
demarche as a major change in position, Galharague reported.

PARIS 00000207 003.2 OF 004

The EU had thus far maintained the position that the issues
of Kosovo and Serbian entry into the EU were not formally
linked. "There was no formal conditionality," Galharague
said, adding that the Serbs now understand that to be a
member of the EU they must eventually recognize Kosovo. "We
told them we do not want another Cyprus," he explained,
referring to Cyprus' controversial EU accession in 2004 as a
divided island where EU legislation remains partly
"suspended" in the northern part of the island which is
outside of the government in Nicosia's control. Nonetheless,
Galharague predicted the Serbs will likely go ahead with the
U.N. resolution in any case, and the USG and the EU will be
forced to oppose it.

¶11. (C/NF) Furthermore, Galharague asserted, before the
Serbs join the EU, they will need to resolve key issues with
Kosovo in the fields of justice, police, customs, transport,
agriculture, and also any differences over names and
terminology. The best way for Serbia to address issues
related to Kosovo is by working with the European Union Rule
of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX). "At the end of the day,
though," he reiterated, "Serbia must recognize Kosovo if it
wants to join the EU."

Great job Mr Assange, let's have these rotten politicians feel the heat having their lies being uncovered!

Leonidas, you can add UAE and Qatar to your list, actually most of the Gulf countries.

By the way one of these drone that crashed in Yemen not long ago was indeed a US drone not an Iranian as "claimed" jointly by the US and Yemenis....

SA is however a sovereign nation, and berating them will accomplish nothing. Or are you really in favor of the US becoming such an efficient empire that it can order another nation to change how it runs its internal affairs?
(Amer, 6 December 2010 19:01)
--
What about Serbia's sovereignty? Why don't you respect that like Saudi Arabia's?

Amer

pre 13 godina

(Leonidas, 6 December 2010 17:15)

Saudi Arabia is a sovereign country, meaning their are limits to how much any other country can influence its behavior. The government has taken steps to eliminate government money from going to terrorists, but private individuals using informal channels are more difficult to control, even if the will is there on the part of some officials. True, if we could break our dependency on oil (most of which does not come from the Mid-East, in any case) we might have more of an influence on a financially-strapped SA, but how many times have we read excoriations of the US for using financial power for achieving its goals?

And as for the country's medieval legal system, if you know about its excesses, it's probably from US/EU media. SA is however a sovereign nation, and berating them will accomplish nothing. Or are you really in favor of the US becoming such an efficient empire that it can order another nation to change how it runs its internal affairs?

If america is truly a democratic country why hide the truth? The world gets to know what american foreign policy is really about. Thank you Wikileaks for telling the truth. Soon the truth about americas illegal occupation of Serbian land will be revealed as well. America is the biggest dictator in the world.

What rottenness?

(Amer, 6 December 2010 16:24)

I'll give you one good example.
Saudi Arabia is the world's largest source of funds for Al Qaeda and other groups but the Saudi government is reluctant to stem the flow of money, according to Hillary Clinton.Donors in Saudi Arabia "constitute the most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide," she said.

Now, what has the US done about it?Absolutely nothing. Why?Because of oil and politics.Saudi Arabia is one of the biggest oil suppliers to US and the biggest spenders on arms supplies. Not to mention the fact that Saudis own 10% of the US economy. You can have the State Department turn a blind eye to the weekly executions and have the media instead fixate on Iran as the human rights violator of the Middle East. You can demand democracy for your neighbors but never commit to it for your own country. You can enforce laws that require women to be covered up and viewed as subhuman lifeforms. That's probably why Saudi Arabia is an ambivalent ally.

"By exposing the rottenness of US foreign policy ...

(Leonidas, 6 December 2010 12:20) "

What rottenness? That other governments tell the US one thing and their own people another thing? That the US wants to keep track of foreign "diplomats" assigned to the UN? The Russians - and who knows who else - use them for running spies against the US (remember the 10 expellees last summer?), I'd hope they'd gather info on them. And now we have a list of vital infrastructure readily available online, a real boon to the aspiring terrorist, especially since not all of the sites are in the US, and thus probably a lot more accessible to someone with some spare explosives.

I understand what you're saying but for me the "point of no return" has already been passed while he was staying in Sweden. They police authorities could've used his arrest warrant just to hold him so they could extradite him to the U.S. where he would maybe suffer a convenient "heart-attacks or somehow

I think the wikileak back-up files in thousands of servers across the world is
probably Assange's "insurance" that keeps
him free and I think he kinda hinted at that in his answers he gave in a recent interview.

I think the wikileaks cable leaks will either make or break the internet and freedom of speech as we know it. It's huge. It's not so much about exposing America's policy of violence and mind-boggling hypocrisy, we know that, it's about exposing their reaction. Now they're pressuring businesses, threatening people who read the cables, threatening to dispatch death squads is that American democracy in 2010? It's a nightmare.Meanwhile millions of Americans don't know where their next meal is coming from.

Nenad

"Our position is clear...that there is no lying in diplomacy."

And I most certainly believe this guy. No Serbian diplomat has ever lied to anyone. Everyone knows that. That's why we see so many Serbs being put behind bars at the Hague. The whole world believed them when they told us they didn't commit war crimes.

Anyway, say what you want about the consequences of Wiki Leaks for the US but as far as Serbia is concerned, I doubt that much would change. Status talks will proceed with Pristina sometime in the next few months and Kosovo will remain as much out of Serbian control as ever. Mladic will remain free and probably be found dead before ever he'd ever get to the ICTY. Serbia will join the crippled EU in five years or so -- or maybe not, but it probably doesn't matter.

Life will go on. The US will undoubtedly be a former "superpower" and everyone will be looking to China, India and Brazil. And then you'll probably see Serbs complaining about those countries.

So what in all of this really changes for Belgrade? Russian deliverance? What?

I generally agree with your comments but WikiLeaks IS stoppable, unfortunately.

Julian Assange's, his family and friends, and his team physical "immunity" and economic independance would be factors to come a bit closer to unstoppable..

I'd not give any ideas publicly but imagine yourself in his place counting on ALL vulnerable wild cards "they" have., the things can force you to "confess", even silently, that the logs/cables have been "modified" by you or WL team. Is the publishing worth and "unstoppable" if you consider importance of ALL the things in your surrounding. I'm sure that between us- here exist someone, even anti-american who's not willing to sacrifice his dog life for publishing those so important files.

There's number of dynamic seeded links (B92 never allow me to post sensitive links) you can digg out yourself and have your own and complete logs in an hour or few., but will that be authentic or "authentic" stuff if he's imprisoned or killed today afternoon?

By exposing the rottenness of US foreign policy Assange has become a symbol for the deep unease that the majority of people outside America have for the US government.Having said that I think some of the US close allies ie Saudi Arabia, Pakistan,Turkey,UK etc come out even worst than the US.I wonder how the S Arabians will feel when Hillary Clinton names them as the financiers of Al Qaeda.

I think Assange's only crime is pointing out the fact the US is in deep decline. Going after Assange like he's some sort of criminal can only hurt the US and create many more militant replacements.

But the website, now at wikileaks.ch, said this morning it had been mirrored to as many as 355 sites, and continues to gradually release the cables.

B92

I am in total agreement with you zoran. The wikileaks is unstoppable.

If america is truly a democratic country why hide the truth? The world gets to know what american foreign policy is really about. Thank you Wikileaks for telling the truth. Soon the truth about americas illegal occupation of Serbian land will be revealed as well. America is the biggest dictator in the world.

Warning?

We're not their colaborators.

An apologize in advance and offer to repair any damage would be more suitable and "diplomatic".

This is directed to a public- anyway, the Government has it's logs now and week about..

Zoran

Now this is going to be an interesting read. Lets see what is being said in Belgrade, Pristina and Sarajevo.

Nothing can stop the Wikileaks now. They have multiple sites spread around the world with 100,000 people and the media holding the information so there is no chance this can be blocked.

The wikileaks is unstoppable.

He must stay free and confirm the last log. Are we sure he's free?

This is a BIG game.

So much for the freedom of speech that Americans love to tell everyone about.

If it doesn't make them look good, it's a terrible threat that must be stopped.

I understand what you're saying but for me the "point of no return" has already been passed while he was staying in Sweden. They police authorities could've used his arrest warrant just to hold him so they could extradite him to the U.S. where he would maybe suffer a convenient "heart-attacks or somehow
"take his own life.

ZMAJ

pre 13 godina

Well, perhaps that's what the leaks will demonstrate - Tadic, SuNATOvac and his sell-outs are collaborators and working against the interests of Serbia? Lets wait and see.
(Zoran, 6 December 2010 13:20)

Yes, one can conclude whatever he likes..

I would not be desturbed (public would)about my friend claim to someone specific; that he'll execute me in 10 days, at most., if that's in interest of preserving my life, actually! At the "staged" part this looks very unfriendly (especially to public), isn't it?

ZMAJ

pre 13 godina

Lets wait and see.
(Zoran, 6 December 2010 13:20)

That's an option.

You can always "see" without to wait.

PS. An old computer is recommended.

SA is however a sovereign nation, and berating them will accomplish nothing. Or are you really in favor of the US becoming such an efficient empire that it can order another nation to change how it runs its internal affairs?
(Amer, 6 December 2010 19:01)

What about Serbia's sovereignty? Why don't you respect that like Saudi Arabia's?

Great job Mr Assange, let's have these rotten politicians feel the heat having their lies being uncovered!

Leonidas, you can add UAE and Qatar to your list, actually most of the Gulf countries.

By the way one of these drone that crashed in Yemen not long ago was indeed a US drone not an Iranian as "claimed" jointly by the US and Yemenis....
