PM had "narrow escape" in plane drama

Serbian PM Mirko Cvetković was on his way to Bulgaria on Thursday when he abruptly returned to Belgrade due to <a href="http://www.b92.net/eng/news/politics-article.php?yyyy=2010&mm=12&dd=02&nav_id=71259" class="text-link" target= "_blank">problems with the aircraft</a>.

I'm not buying this load of BS. This is just an excuse so the government can waste taxpayer money (again) and buy a shiny new jet to ride around in.

It wouldn't be the first time. Anyone remember that new armoured mercedes Tadic bought for himself? claiming he wasn't "safe" because of the fight against organized crime? Yeah right and we are all gullible idiots...

Really, the blue train salons (basically, upscale and well-maintained) sleeping cars are stationed all over Belgrade train station. Attaching one to one of the two daily Belgrade-Sofia trains is not very difficult in such emergency.

Even better idea: ЖС and БДЖ should keep their cars in such shape, a head of the government would not be ashamed to enter. The rest would be trivial, much safer and easier - without drama in the mid-air.

I am curious, how much did Serbian citizens pay for yesterday mishap... and at the end huge luck prevented the tragedy.

One Katyn was enough this year (and any year). I think the governments should be more concerned about these old or little airplanes and think more conservative way. For instance there are 4-5 overnight trains between Warszawa and Smolensk daily and tickets are in 20-30 Euro range even in best sleeping cars. Poland paid much higher price this year, no need to repeat the stupidity.

Last but not least: if the government officials travel like the "rest of us" - they score some points with passengers who could be their voters. In America, with all it's very poor (compared to Serbia, Bulgaria, etc.) rail infrastructure the politicians hire trains for their election campaign. Here it's so much easier, cheaper and natural - and some dumb decisions are made I just can't understand.
