If Albanians aren't, that's their problem and that's for other people to judge, but it doesn't mean that Serbs should be petty and sink down to their low level.

Best to set the high standards for everyone else to follow, not out-compete one another in nationalism. That doesn't get anyone anywhere.

@Milan
When the Byzantine empire fell, the Albanians adopted the Byzantine war flag as their own, at that time they where also Christians as the people in the Byzantine empire.

Even if Albanians probably wouldn't allow a Serbian flag in Albania or Kosovo, that doesn't mean that Serbia and Serbians should do the same to the Albanian flag. Serbs have to step up and show that they're the leaders of the Balkans by showing that they're progressive and respective of minorities. If Albanians aren't, that's their problem and that's for other people to judge, but it doesn't mean that Serbs should be petty and sink down to their low level.

Both double headed eagle and single headed eagle are pagan symbols, the single headed egale used to represent Jupiter, but in christianity, they tried to dedicate the eagle to st marcus, in order to fool the people into new reliogion... and even to christ, who is either represent by a dove, a eagle or even fish! it depends on where the priests wanted to spread christianity...double headed eagle comes from asia minor pagan cultures most probably, presumely hitites, who were around there the same period with illyrians and thraceans...christianity did not even exist back then! Muslim nations like egypt etc use the desert eagle as symbols, which are extremely rare in fact... americans use eagle, yet not a christian symbol, for instance the eagle feather, widely popular in american symbolism, is an indigenous cult, still not christian ... even cross did not use to be a christian symbol, for instance the iron cross worshiped by germans, because they believed teutons used prior to become christians, hence their nationalism .... for an albanian, it is hard to label the flag by religion, the ''shqiptar'' identity is dedicated to the eagle, as it means ''son of the eagle''... it is beleived that Skanderbeg named albanians just like Phyrrus named his soldiers , hence ''sons of eagles''...yet for an orthodox serb, who can not imagine their existence other than byzantinism would not understand...remeber, 300 years before serbs pillaged the balkans, the roman empire used to be a pure pagan empire, which achieved far more than byzantines under christianity ever could...actually byzantines never called themselves as byzantines but that is another story...

I still find it strange that the Albanians have a double-headed eagle on the falg considering that the majority of Albanians are Muslim. The double-headed eagle is a symbol used by Christian tribes throughout Europe. It just seems ill-placed in an Islamic society.
(Milan, 28 November 2010 23:49)

Actually if you bothered opening a book or two you'd know that the Christians themselves borrowed the double headed eagle from pre-christian and pre- Abrahamic civilizations. So why does that borrowing has more credibility over the other. They borrow, we borrow; who gives a damn. Having said that, seeing that the Albanian flag is the flag that Scanderbeg used in battle and seeing that Scanderbeg went flip-flopped between being and orthodox and catholic the adoption of his flag is quite natural. It is quite natural because his state encompassed much of what is Albania today.

MicaelC I don't know if one could call a democracy a state which denies people the right to vote, but whatever; we have milk in Prishtina and Tirana, you don't have it in Belgrade. So the comparison is like comparing a N. Korean to a South Korean. Those in the north don't have milk.

Milan, the Serbian flag also has a double-headed eagle, do you not think that that was another thing that the Albanians have stolen from the Serbs? They just changed the color to red, and made it their own. Albanians have zero history, zero proof of their existence in the Balkans, asides from a disputed claim they are descendants of some pre-Christian Illyrian tribe. I would love for Albanians to show me one definite proof they are indigenous to the Balkans. Show us just one cave painting in Albanian, just one church with inscriptions in Albanian, just something real. They cannot. The Albanian flag is a copy of the Serbian one, only with different colors.

As much as they hate to admit it, they are originally Christians.

They only converted to islam to earn approval from the ottomans.

There is big difference between bigotry and truth, Ptoleme, and you know there waqs a lot of truth to my statement. Are you going to tell me that Albanians are not involved in the activities that I mentioned? And please, no everyone else is, comments. Ask anyone in Europe what they think of Albanians and their crimes. Happy Flag Day.

Yes, good pics - and lucky them - it looks like the winter did not "made" it there yet. We have major problems here, it's damn cold and snow everywhere.

Good point, Tito, but we all know that an Serbian flag south of the Ibar has as much chance of survival as a snow cone in a pizza oven. Like Muslims in America and Europe, they want the freedom to build their mosques, but that freedom does not exist for Christians/Jews in Muslim countries.

Albanians in Presevo displaying flags, and beating on some pots and pans, is fine. As long as they are not desecrating cemeteries of other ethnicities, throwing rocks at buses, destroying infrastructure, setting of explosives, damaging vehicles of foreign aid personnel, murdering, drug dealing, human trafficking, selling black market human organs, embezzling, threatening, polluting the Adriatic, etc., like their brothers and sisters in Kosovo and Albania, then things can go peacefully. Where can I get one of those conehead caps, do they come in other colors?

You can't compare a country like Albania to Serbia, Greece and Macedonia. Its like comparing a Yugo car with Mercedes. We have democracy and respect for human rights. And Albania unfortunately doesn't.

I am pleased these events are held in a peaceful manner and that Serbia treats its responsible minorities with respect. I would love to attend one of these if circumstances allow. The photo makes it look like a fun event.

All this is fine but I wonder when is the Serbian, Greek or Macedonian flag going to be allowed to be displayed in Albania?
Reciprocity should be applied accross the Balkans, so if minorities have no right in Albania then no Albanian flags in Serbia.
