I am not so sure that Tadic is actually saying he doesnt have the credentials to do his job. I feel he is being honest and pragmatic about the task that faces him and Serbia in the years ahead. I believe he is a very good President, he has made some very tough decisions and I think history will view him as a strong and very capable leader. The points he makes, I think, are very fair ones. He points out that too many well educated students are attracted abroad by inflated salaries and promises of excellent careers. This, surely, is an indication of the strength or the Serbian education system? He also points out the dilema he faces with trying to add youth and experience to his team. It appears to me that he took a ganble with some members of his Cabinet and that gamble, mostly, has paid dividends. He makes a good point about the need for rationalization within the State workforce. This is something that is happening here in the UK at present and it will result in both huge public savings and a long overdue review of the way in which the State operates. For too long there have been countless quangos and money sapping comittees within the public sector. Our own spending review is a golden opportunity to try and streamline government here to produce a more efficient and effective public sector. I suspect the same is probably true of the public sector in Serbia. Like him or loathe him, I think it is fair to say that Tadic does, at the very least, have a sound grasp of the issues facing Serbia in the current climate. Unusually for a politician, in my view he also has a good grasp of what needs to be done to try and tackle those issues.

"Tadić pointed out that the Serbian economy was in a very difficult position and that was the reason why the state “does not have enough money to invest in future, in science, in education” in a way which would bring quick results and added that it was a great structural problem of our society."

-- That's ok. You have the biggest and strongest army in the region. You are the leaders of the region. You are richest in the region. Some friends like sj here claim you can feed all of Europe. Etc. etc. Insert any gloating remarks about how Serbia is better than anyone else. The best there is. Only there's no milk in Belgrade.

And down she's goes! Approval ratings that is. Seriously though, I'd love to see the faces of the clowns who voted for Tadic now. Your dear leader doubts he's got the acorns to do the job.

On another note, I eagerly await the day administration is 'rationalized' as they call it.

10 ministries and 100 member parliament? It can't be true, it just makes too much sense! :O

That is what the Ottomans said about the Greek independence.... for 10 years straight. I hope you have the patience for a futile wish. Merry xmas :D

If The President has doubts about his physical and mental capacity to do the job he was elected for, perhaps he should consider resigning.

@ Dragce - There was no 'negative ruling' on Kosovo by the ICJ - just a cop out wrapped up in weasel words.

Kosovo is still not independent, it's still a protectorate and there are still a roomful of chaps & chapesses in expensive suits bashing their heads against the wall about what to do next.

Well over half of UN nations have not recognised the UDI, which is irrelevant anyway when there is no legal status replacing Resolution 1244 to back it up.

Vuk Jeremic, like him or hate him, is an incredible foreign minister who works at a level, intellect and intenstity that most 'Western' states could only dream of.

Yes- you have! Once you had streingth to claim to be Pro-Serbian., you can do anything!

Is that the one who oversaw the negative ruling of the ICJ on kosovo? An "all eggs in one basket" move?

Whatever the age of Tadic's speech writers, he should sack them. First he says the problem with the country is that the best and brightest are leaving, then the problem with the country is that noone wants to move, slight contradiction.
As for the administration not attracting young people because of low wages, the wages might be low in comparison to, say, Norway, but they are still, on average, and even with the freeze, 50% higher than in the private sector. In fact, the main reason among the numerous unemployed university graduates that I know for not taking a job in the Administration is that a precondition for such a job is membership of a (ruling) political party, and, desperate and depressed as many of them are, the idea of selling their souls and becoming part of the state bloodsucking apparatus that is ruining this country sickens them. So, Mr.Tadic, if you want to be reelected and continue living your pampered, privileged existence, at least make sure your speechwritiers know what the actual situation in the country is, even if you don't.
