The best proof that the Euro represents stability and prosperity is that the Eurozone continues to expand.

On 1 January 2011 Estonia will adopt the Euro.

The EU has created two mechanisms to deal with the crisis: the European Financial Stabilisation Mechanism and the European Financial Stability Fund.
(Mircea EU citizen, 27 November 2010 16:47)
You should have picked some other member which has some sign of being solvent because Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have empty treasuries so adopting the Euro means nothing. If wealthy countries such as the UK, France, Italy etc are in trouble, or about to be, then I would not hold hope just because Estonia adopts the new currency.
“European Financial Stabilisation Mechanism and the European Financial Stability Fund” Hamburg University stated that Germany could not help all counties in the EU that are in trouble and if it tried “Germany would become bankrupt”. So these funds you’re talking about are near empty.
It’s time these countries started working to solve their own problems and not just waiting for a “miracle” to appear.

I'm sure the Germans don't pine for the DM.

Never read a more obvious lie than this one. Germans haven't been asked for the Euro. The government made that decision, against the declared will of the majority. Germans want the DM back, especially after some Fakelakis stoled and lied into the EU currency. If there would be a referendum about reinstating the DM, it would be a clear victory for the DM.

But don't worry. The day will come and the Euro will fall. Then, Germany will withdraw back to its own values and will become even stronger than it is anyway today (practically it is the only economic super power in Europe).

They have this huge protected market of 400 million customers.

Yes Joe,

Just look at the car market. You can of course look at some fanboy comments from few very naive Americans about supposed "greatness" of European-standard cars and the variety (they forget, most brand names in Europe are recycled like in the States. Like Romanian Dacia Logan = Russian Lada = Renault Ckio III = Nissan Versa sold in the States). But of course, you can make yourself feel very patriotic (and idiotic), buying "Romanian", "Russian", "French" or whatever your grandma was. Still the same car, pretty much like Ford Taurus versus Mercury Sable.

The truth: who knows a little bit about the cars Germans load off in Europe for prices Americans would be shocked versus what they HAVE to sell in America knows: European car market not only sux deep - it also blows chunks.

If European customers would be aware about what is uploaded for them on the car market and the "greatness" of European crash standards / emission standards versus NHTSA and California emissions - they would probably raid Brussels or Strasbourg.

For myself - I refuse to own any car, which wasn't made for American market. And I can suggest others doing the same. Educate yourself - and buy cars from the most competitive market the planet knows.

Here, by the way, non-EU citizens are somewhat better off to do that.

"The Euro guarantees a mechanism for Germany to sell its manufactured products (60% of them) in a protected market to 400 million consumers without any currency fluctuations at all.Furthermore, this financial supremacy gives them the upper hand at the political level within the EU.

However, as it has been said before, the euro is flawed from the financial perspective and is idelogically and politically driven."One size fits all" policy has been an unmitigated desaster.
Leonidas

You are right. In the coming days the Germans will become "motivated" and flexible again to help because the EU serves them well both financially and politically. They have this huge protected market of 400 million customers.

"Merkel: Euro will survive crisis"

Survive but at what cost to German taxpayers Mdm Merkel? And ultimately at what cost to your chancellorship? I think the German electorate are getting fed up. Because it is unlikely to stop at Ireland. Portugal it seems is looming too.

If there's one country in Europe that would lose out from the Euro's demise, it's Germany this why Merkel will do its outmost to see the euro surviving even at a reduced range within the EU.
