Mircea EU citizen,

You should consult with your dear friend Mr. Fule, if you dont agree.

BTW; If the Serbian people don't want the EU, is it democratically viable to push this amongst the people?

This would permit Croatia to join the EU on 1 January 2014.

1) I think, it will be rather mid-2013. Year ends / begins are not necessary, see the enlargement of EU in 2004. It happened in May.

2) I am still puzzled, what will Croatia benefit from that stinkin pile of ***

I know, I (in person) could benefit. For instance if Dear Leader, SS Obergruppenführer Viktor Orbán decides to set up his Orbán-stapo (or OrbánKVD or Orbán-curitate) service to ensure, everyone reads his tacepaos on the walls (no joke, tacepao is already out there, in every public office) - than I don't need to buy six one-way tickets to USA, all I need is to start the engine of my car. True, I could do that even today with Slovenia.

But regardless, Croatia or USA - my home will be probably as much worth as one German Reichsmark or one Soviet Rouble.

The big question (for me) now: can EU stop that fascist maniac Orbán or not. If they can't - the entire EU is not worth what in Dollars a Soviet Rouble is worth today.

I think that it is more realistic to expect that Serbia would receive EU candidacy status by the end of 2012.

Obtaining the EU candidate status does not guarantee that Serbia would begin accession negotiations with the EU soon.

Macedonia obtained EU candidate status in December 2005 and has not yet started accession negotiations.

Montenegro will officially obtain EU candidate status at the European Council meeting in December. It remains to be seen when Montenegro will begin accession negotiations with the EU.

Croatia will probably finish accession negotiations with the EU by the end of 2011. This means that Croatia will probably sign the Accession Treaty in 2012. Then, the Accession Treaty will be ratified by the parliaments of the 27 EU Member States and by the Croatian parliament during the course of 2012 and 2013. This would permit Croatia to join the EU on 1 January 2014.

I do not like the way the West is encouraging and supporting Serbia's path toward EU by forcing it with a fix date. However, let us be realistic! There is no chance that Serbia becomes a candidate country by the end of 2011. Because, technically it is not feasible! It would be better to say that 2012 is the most appropriate date for the candidacy. Let us see the example of Montenegro which needed more then a year for this process and another half a year for EU bureaucracy.
