Yes, I was trying to find something I read just recently - maybe in a Stratfor report - that said Saakashvili had recently reiterated the idea during some meeting. But Obama is staking everything on improving relations with Russia, and the route through Georgia idea is most likely going nowhere. Unless the Russians break O's heart and his hopes for a major foreign policy breakthrough. It's a highly theoretical possibility, but it's there.

Thanks for your links. I noted however that they are quite dated -- Jan and Feb this year -- I'm sure the Yankees must have already concluded by now that the Georgian route is not feasible due to poor infrastructure and high transportation costs as mentioned in one of these articles. Besides, a check with the map shows that another country Turmenistan would have to give consent for its territory to be as enroute to Afghanistan -- I can't imagine Iran giving its consent!

Come on Amer, be serious!

To ensure or participate in such a serious concept you must be able to "swallow and push". Saakashvili's dreamland of second capital, returning Ossetia, major NATO role or economy concept are West's "pain in the ass" any more. He's just desperate and marginal president with a stupid route to offer. This route is impossible to be sufficient or safe due to geographic configuration problems. It's just a new try to revive or make stronger ties with his "protectors" (no one care). Link? Take this one: http://www.messenger.com.ge/issues/2223_october_28_2010/2223_edit.html

The list of CIA failures from attempts to remove Hugo Chaves to its activities in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan or Korean peninsula is simply breath taking to say the least.
Let’s take one of the more recent disasters the CIA undertook. The South Korean ship allegedly sunk by the North Koreans. They enlisted so called experts from around the world and they could not convince anyone in Asia or for that matter the rest of the world – the vast majority believe that those incompetents sunk the ship to blame the North Koreans.
How dumb are they to try a “weapons of mass destruction” trick so soon after Iraq?
The CIA is now too busy with affirmative action plans, policy and is not capable of performing at a desired level.

“Russia wants the flow of heroin out of Afghanistan stopped - it has an interest in Nato not simply pulling out. It also needs Western technology to upgrade its military - so Russia has a lot to lose by getting cute. But if it does, there's always the Georgian route that Saakashvili keeps offering.

Russia needs Nato to stop the heroin destined mainly for WESTERN markets and is unable patrol her own borders? Ya sure! And she is crying for the latest Western military technology? Ya sure, like as if the West are about to give her all their high tech secrets!
