Seems there's some misinformed people here.

The Italian mafias are not "under" the Russians or the Serbs or the Albanians for that matter. Like someone already wrote, what the Serbs and the Albanians do in Italy is mostly what the Italians let them do and if they get caught, the Italians will smoothly fill the void themselves or delegate a certain trafficking job for some other gang. The 'Ndrangheta, in particular, is a huge business. They have invested huge amounts of money globally and their annual revenue is dozens of times larger than the Serbian gangsters'. The Sicilians and Neapolitans don't come that far behind, and what you read about these organizations in the media is a lot like Mexican and Colombian drug cartels - 30-50% is theatre and if these syndicates can fool governments and police agencies, they will play the media like a violin.

When it comes to Russian gangsters, there's this misconception that they are particularly powerful in the United States. The actual power of Russian *organized* crime is mostly restricted to Russia (obviously), other former Soviet countries and the rest of Europe. My point is that the Russian gangsters in America are not really that organized. Their operations are relatively small compared to more traditional American mobs or gangs, and their biggest criminal trade is economic or white-collar crime. The Mexican cartels have become very international during the 2000's, and they have also grown their presence and influence in the United States by controlling various gangs. However, no matter how weakened the Italian-American crime families seem, the East Coast is extremely lucrative, and the Mafia still operates in various corrupt, yet legitimate businesses (the waterfront, cement, construction, cabs, repairs etc.) and also the mob tax is still imposed on criminal businesses operating on Mafia territory. Their share of drug trafficking has dropped considerably, but dealers are taxed. The Mafia has also moved many gambling operations and scams onto the Internet, and these may carry immense profits for the mob.

What they portray in GTA or so and what the media shows you is often hardly the true picture about these criminals.

"It's simple to see how this works. If Serbian gangsters are to move cocaine, where else are they going to do it except through Kosovo"

This makes no sense. Kosovo is landlocked. If it's true that it has to go through Kosovo, then it has to go through Serbia next. But, I don't understand why it has to go through Kosovo.

The key to Serbian organized crime is the Albanians. It is Albanian connections that make Serbian organized crime possible. It's simple to see how this works. If Serbian gangsters are to move cocaine, where else are they going to do it except through Kosovo, and the Albanians run Kosovo supervised by international oversight who ignore their criminal activities. Of course the Serbs are the ones who get caught. This is the how the Drug War works: Increasing the criminality of drug trafficking and using means increased black market prices. Increased criminality means that somebody has to get caught, else what is the point of law enforcement against increased criminality. Well entrenched gangsters always need somebody to take the fall to keep law enforcement in business and off their backs at the same time. Enter, the Serbs. Yes, the Italians are still in business, and so are their partners, the Albanians. And the Albanians are taking over organized crime in the US too.
Paul

I live in the US and your comment is completely untrue.
Mexicans are at the top of the food chain when it comes to trafficking drugs.

Russians are the top dogs in organized crime.

Albanians? Come on, you don't expect anyone to believe you, do you?

I mean people now have internet and can find out if they want to.

I think you're just spreading propaganda. Not that anyone believes you, anyway.

well this is no surprise because here in the west the serbian mafia is well known in all activities not just drugs they are ruthless and there was a seminar here not far back and they said the serbian mob has put a major foothold in Canada and north and south America they do not fear anyone nor anything even when they go to jail they are stone cold and not like other gangs that cry or sing like birds. the facts are the serbs were in all kinds of wars so they killed for life and now they are paid to do it in their minds big money for what they did for free that's something for them to do with no problems and we all know the Russian mob are the biggest world wide but the serbs have pushed their way in and some countries they head it all even in Australia they are in big numbers joining gangs like the hells angels and just moving fast and strong becoming leaders and in Toronto the head of the hells angels from what i understand are serbs pres. and vice pres.

but hers some info on the serb mob that has been written and the link has 4 pages so enjoy about the new force in the underworld because the world is changing and going towards the east

I think it's complete BS that they put the Italian Mafia out of business. They were only able to do what the Italians let them do! Now guess what? The Saric gang is really out of business and the Ndrangheta still remains Europe's most powerful organized crime group. How about that!
